Well i'm just curious as to how long it took people to learn how to drift. I just started trying to lear how to do it but its really really frustrating at times because i keep messing up in the end and plus i have the v3 racing wheel 2 the cheap version steering wheel. i also wanted to know if all of you people doing the drifts are all using driving wheels. please help me out and tell me some insights on how to drift good any help would be appreciated. i tried all that was written in the how to links so any other tips?

you people are good. did the settings really matter in learning how to drift? did you use steering wheels? i heard that the best way to learn how to do it is to leave the car stock and get used to it first.

thts right . u try not to mod the lsd ,turbo weight red ( important if u dont want to spin ) ...that was i do when i was 1st try .
some of them are good with 400+ hp but i learn with 4wd cars
gtr-34. u can buy all thing xcept that thing that i mention than try to feint . key is swing the car before u reach corners ...try it ...
the best setting for 4wd for beginner is thios ....try it at drift setting depot ...than give feedback ...:D

I've been drifting for almost a year and I'm still learning. Anyone who tells you they're not is lying =)

pergatory is right, im still learning how to perfect my FF drift and how to no spin out so often with FR, i mean 4wd with a Skyline is giving me sum trouble too

v3 = suck.

Maybe the 2 is better.

Just keep practicing, get a setting and practice with it until you can drift good. Then eventually experiment with your own settings.

those of us (not sure true or not) use auto than normal ...
for 4wd try thios setting that is good for beginner ...but u will get problem if u dont know how to feint ...to learn it i suggest download his video at thread

Drifting: R34 Style

man, auto wont give u the speed needed for a full on drift, even if u feint, it still wont go very far, with a man tranny, u can go down a gear if u lossing power or loosing angle to get the RPMS higher and ur wheels spinning, but try out with both, c what u like better

Manual is a must. You don't want it shifting up on you if you put the RPM a little too high or shifting down if you let it drop. It's very important what gear you're in when drifting. The wrong gear makes it considerably harder.

teh only way autos work in drift is if you have a close ratio and it will not drop out of hte powerband if it does shift... manual is obviously better tho

I drift with automatic:D it's hard for me to shift with a DS2 controller when drifting it's like my thumb is on the gas my left thumb on the anolog my middle fingers on the l2 and r2 bottons and I frequently use my fingers pressing the brake, hand brake, and gas...so I don't have time looking at my speedo when to shift gears because I am consentrating on my drifts. it's too much to think about especially using sims.:irked: I would use manual if I have a wheel so I will have my hands free to shift and my feet will do the braking and gasing. I would use manual for racing on a controller.:D

i know i type the wrong... ehhh i have given up trying to type it right
word corrects it for me anyways... hehe
if you didnt use e brake you wouldnt have a prob... you would have free finger... and if you got used to manual it would be natural...

also i find it a pain in the ass to use manual with a wheel... the levers dont move with the wheel... so its just harder when you hand is on the wheels and you dont wanna let go... more awkward than real like...

I took me several hours to get good drifts with a 4WD.
Then I tried RWD and I spent a couple of weeks to get good settings for me.
And FWD....... just use the handbrake. :)

ehhh actually i thought the same... but i have been racing with ff for a couple hours... slicks.. not tcs and no asm... and i have found that you can drift... just differently... with left foot braking... gas and brake... it works farily well and is different and cannot be maintained as long as fr mr and 4wd drifts for hte obvious resons.... i know its on slicks... but shouldnt be hard to use sims wiht... prolly be even better....

you cant just use the left foot braking continually you gotta kindda tap it with gas to initiate drift... brake when you need to gas when you need to... and left of the gas nad tap it when you are feeling oversteer come into play... i know this is not a good explanation... but i have just started doin it... so not htat great yet... and not that great at explainin it

In two words: rally style. ;)

wow those are good tips i could try the 4wd but i'm not sure if that would be a good car to start with drifting because you can't really enter curves right away doing poweroversteer but i'm not really sure. feint is really hard to do to i'm going to keep on trying

im right :) you can learn drift in a matter of hours with slicks and high hp...i've told you people countless times..here's your proof. if you wanna drift in a few hours..all you gotta do is take a 4WD car, 900 or so hp, slick tires and you are drifting!! :D imagine how long it took some of the top drifters in D1 to perfect their drifts...

not a drift-a-maniac, but a fan none the less... here's what works for me...using the right joystick as the throttle. to me its a definate must when drfiting because throttle manipulation is VERY important. im fond of feinting coupled with a quick down shift in a fr, having problems with oversteer though :D to me, drifting isnt just about getting sideways, turning the tires....its about prescise car balance and control, so mashing on the x button, using the e- brake and hopefully staying on the track is the simplest, least expressive form of drifting IMO. remember soft springs and a little camber should do u go0d too :D !!

yah but i'll have a hand free for shifting. one hand can hold the wheel and it's makes remembering what gear I am on is easier imo;)

jrock... your setup sounds like mine... i use stock springs most of hte time... or actually whatever they give as a value for fully customized or hte step below... all i do is lower the car a bit... change chamber to 1 and 5 and i am good to go with a quick gear ratio and some sims or slicks... great stuff

personally i dont like the second joystick myself... i just am not coordinated... the x button does have varying pressure points and i find that i can achiever sam accuracy by tapping gas if i dont think that just barely pressing gass will work... never use e brake never floor... i also use a wheel... but as i said i use them auto... dun like using hte pedals... maybe i should switch to the buttons on the wheel... ok i am gunna try that
