How long does it take to delete install file?

I was having problems with occasional freezing when loading GT Life, so I decided to re-install the Game Data.

So I went into the Options > Utilities > Delete Install File within the Gran Turismo Main Menu. However, it has been showing the "Deleting installed files..." screen and back-and-forth progress bar for over an hour, but still hasn't finished.

Has anyone else tried the Delete Install File option in GT5? And if so, how long did it take to finish? Should I just quit, and just delete the Game Data from the XMB instead?

I would just do it from the XMB. Deleting almost 10gb of data will still take a while though.

Deleting a single file is instant - like most FAT systems the PS3 simply removes the addressing rather than the ones-and-zeroes. The GT5 install is, however, made up of a LOT of files that each need to be looked up and then de-addressed. Most users report that removing the entire GT5 install takes between 20 to 40 minutes.

Recently put a new HDD in my PS3 so I deleted mine through XMB. The delete took almost as long as the initial install.
