How long have you been drifting?

I wanna get faster, but I'm already faster than everyone I know that drifts, I have no competition. I got my friend dave into it, but he can only drift when he play at my house. And my little brother can't keep up with me in any corner, I always have to slow down after I exit the corner for him to have a chance. I'm not saying this to try and make myself sound good, because reading the times in the trial mountain thread really put a dent in my ego.

I guess, but I wanna try to drift as fast as I can, I don't try to go as far sideways as I can without spinning out, or hold the drift longer than the corner. Its just something about being faster that appeals to me. I just don't see how those people are so damn fast

I know exactly what you mean! For me it's the same in real life, nobody else around here is into drifting or even taking corners fast. They just like to push the gas and pretend they're racecar drivers. Sadly, I've never been outrun in the curves before in my nearly-stock 86, and I don't consider myself that good. I've beaten cars that I know can chew me up and spit me out. I know how to take the right line and I can use weight transfer partially to my advantage, but I have a lot to learn still. It's hard to learn without role models. Just do what feels right, don't turn in at a particular mark on the road, but let your reflexes tell you when the time is right. Your reflexes will naturally learn the correct way to do it, it just takes practice. I was drifting in GT3 for almost a year before I started posting on the 'net and such, so up until that point I was drifting all on my own, except for the Option videos I had seen. I think it gave me a very good base of understanding so that when I watched others drift, I was able to see the differences. I learned a lot as soon as I started watching videos like Cudaman's, and my style changed drastically in a period of a few months. It's starting to slow down now, but I'm still learning, I always will be. It's endless, really. If you are in it to be good then you should give up now. Being good is for NASCAR. If you're in it to get good, then this is where you belong!

I wanna get good, but its hard with no competition. I know when to turn I don't like look for certain marks, I just do it whenever I feel its right. The only thing I can do to get faster is race and race and race, trying to beat my ghost. After a while it gets boring. Whenever I do race in 2 player mode, is it just me or do the cars handle a little different?

uhhh, ever since GT3 came out i think. It's been too long for me to remember.I've sorta gotten somewhat bored of GT3 because no one I know can keep up with me drift or grip and the computer gets REALLY boring after playing them so many times.

I got into GT3 drifting right when it came out.

I used to frequent a Honda message board called 'Hondasociety' (I think it's still around) and some of the guys there used to post clips from Options videos from time to time and it got me interested.

Anyway, when GT3 came out I started 'trying' to drift, but I was horrible. I didn't really know anything about car setups. I didn't really know any good techniques and it really wasn't very fun. Then somebody posted CudaMan's 'Gran Dorifto' up on 'Hondasociety' and I started trying to imitate what he was doing and that helped a lot. I also found a GT3 Drifting guide (http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/gran_turismo_3_drifting.txt) and I learned some techniques from there. I didn't find GTP until April of last year, but my drifting definitely improved the most after I found this place.
So: 👍 to Jordan for creating this forum for us. :)

hehe cooL!

well to answer your question, i think 2 Player mode handles differently too... maybe it's the view we're not used to... plus i don't like the digital tachometer... i'd rather have a gauge instead

laugh all you want, but i've truely been drifting for about thre months. im pretty decent at it. we (my cousin and I) always used to grip race until he came across this message board. we got a few of the videos and were hooked ever since. and after lots of practice, i'd say that we are pretty good, not AWESOME, but pretty good.

drifting added a whole hell of a lot more fun to GT3.

i started trying to drift about a few months ago.

the time ive actually spent trying to drift is more like 2 weeks or so:lol:

hmmm... i've been drifting in GT3 since over the summer of 2003. i'm drifting my butt off to make a good vid. so i can showcase it. i'll have to see if i can get vids on the comp first...

real life: ass dragged an old mitsu fwd car since i was 13 all the way to 16, then i got my hands on my sister's bf's FC and started to practice with that, then i got my 240 and yeah...so i've been doing it for a while in real life

GT3: a little over a year
