How long is it take you to beat the time set in the Complex String?

Well, when I got GT3:A SPEC , it took me about 1-2 weeks to get a hundred percent - BUT 3 of those days were spent pretty much non-stop trying to beat the time in the Complex String. Never had the Gran Turismo series contained such a difficult track, which I had very hard time to beat. How long did it take all you guys to beat the time set?

i take it you mean the arcade thing with the ruf, i gave up on that :indiff:

First time at GT3 I started time attacks after I've done more than 50% of the game. Did it in few tries (I know I would have remembered if it would take me long time). Second time arround I did it in 2nd attempt. It doesn't seem so hard to me. Time attacks in general were easy for me.

I can usually get the Complex String TT in about 2-3 tries now. I'm on my 8th run to 100%, so I'm pretty experienced at the game.

I don't know, but I got TT10 before I got TT8 & 9.

And gtaddict, who is JMP? Does JPM know that he's lost his McLaren seat to this JMP guy? :p

I don't get it :)

TT10 was the last thing I did to get 100%. I fought with it for a while, but the thing that helped me the most was to go into Arcade Free Run and drive the Arcade RGT around other tracks just to get a feel for it. I hadn't driven it much during the game, and it has its quirks. After I knew how to handle it, I went back and passed TT10 with just a few tries.

lolllllllll, i joined this forum at 5am in the morning , so excuse me for my sloppy typing then. Great to see that Montoyas loss a lotta weight over the holidays anyway, said that he was the fittest he had ever been in his life now.

:) :) :) i couldn't stop laughing when i read u post, im sure JPM will kick JMP's ass!!

anyway, i was disappointed with how easy GT3 was to complete, but i finally felt a real challenge with beating the complex string time set by Yamauchi or someone like that. Driving a car which was probably the last car i would wanna take round the circuit (as im not to keen on the RUF with it's stock settings and poor breaking on that particular model with understeer) was fun, not no mention learning the circuit. I'm not looking forward to learning the 7 minute ring in GT4!!!!! !(or maybe I am)

I beg to differ, the RUF RGT is one of the best handling cars out of the box stock. Thankfully i had been racking up the miles on my RGT from career mode in pretty much all races that required a bone stock car so experience in the car just made the TT10 pretty simple. The trick is to be consistent and make sure to slow down on the hilly section, other than that, complex string becomes a decent track if not a long one.

If anything, i find that the rally time trials are impossible...

I suppose it handles like a charm when ur used to it. I found the breaks weren't as good as they could be and the car always steps out that little more than u expect it when driving through the section at the beginning with lotsa S's. I guess i was just used to the settings i used on my RUF in Gran Turismo Mode. I think i only beat the time set by the game makers by 6 tenths , but it's enough to get me 100 percent completeion status.

The first time I did the String TT, I lost count of the attempts I made.

The second time I conquered it was considerably easier, plus I noticably improved upon my first time.

As for the Nurburgring, familiarity is just as important on it as it is on the String.
Thankfully, I am getting as much time in on it as possible.

Cheers,

MasterGT

im up to about 98%, thats the last thing in arcade i have to complete....

and i have given up!

so much so that i stopped playing gt3, i go in and out of phases.......

I have to disagree, the Nürburgring is easier to remember without map than the Complex String, at least for me......

I think Complex String is way too constant....I mean, it's almost all the same, plus you got absolutely no reference points for braking. I mean not obvious ones like you do on the Nordschleiife.

Plus, with the course being sooo wide at some places, you really loose the feel of the speed you're doing, so you often misjudje the braking- and turn-in points :guilty: For me, Complex String will be only a test track and not a fun track :scared:

Actually, every major transitional corner at CS uses the yard (or meter?) markers, usually 200, 150, 100, and 50, which I have to be quite effective for setting my braking points with various cars.

Well i tried the Nurburgring in GT4 but don't have time to learn it all with my exams starting on the 4th but from the onboard I have seen of it, it looks like theres more braking refrences than the Complex String.

Yeah, you can also mix up the braking markers between corners at CS, that`s why the distance markers aren't THAT good :(

My point was that there are markers at CS. I've never had any problems mixing them up, and 4 markers on average is quite sufficient for establishing your braking points.

I don't remember how long it took the first time I did it, but it was at least a week. I recently started the game again and did the Time Trials first, expecting a long hard slog. An hour later they were all done. I cleared Complex String on my 1st clean lap. The longer tests have more room for error, you can tell by the record times that are way under the pass times. For me, tests like B8 are still a pain, but the Time Trials are not too hard.

I did it in about 2 seperate 90 minute sessions. I did the time trials when I was about 60-70% through the game, as I recall.

Professionals who race real cars on the Nurburgring, such as Jorg Muller, will tell you that the only way to get fast on the Ring is to practice, practice, practice. It's through practice that you get to remember the course and all of its intracasies.

If you can do that for the whole track, in various cars, without practice, you're a better person than the rest of us.

i can do it now first clean run however when i first did it it took me ages.

Ive never actually finished gt3 100%, in fact GT2 is the only GT game ive completed. GT3 is just to long and boring for me to do, 30+ laps leading by miles = not fun.

im about 90% through atm (frist thing i did was to Time Trials to win esperante GT1) , last time i got to 96% then the game got wiped :(

...How long did it take all you guys to beat the time set?

This is my third attempt to get 100%*. It took me 5 days, 2 hours each day, to beat TT10. First day: 5'07, Second day: 4'58, Third day: 4'55, Fourth day: 4'54, Fifth day 4'52.117.

Over those days the only GT3 driving I did was TT10 and race around CS in an RGT in Free Run mode. On the fifth day I was under 4'50 in Free Run and I knew I could beat the time trial.

Mike

* Obviously I didn't get 100% my first two attempts.

I have still not completed TT9 or TT10. I am finding them very difficult as on PAL i cannot turn off TCS & ASM. I might have another go tonight. I actually think TT9 is harder.

Are you on some sort of Ealing, perhaps Gooner drug? The PAL version is the only version that you can do the time trials without ASM and TCS. It's the American and Japanese version that you can't turn off. Although the PAL times are lowered to compensate for this.

Initially that complex string thing took me about 2 hours. On repeat I managed to do it first time. The only time trial that I found very hard was that damn one in Swiss alps. I love tahiti maze too much (well in GT3 guise, GT4's one doesn't seem so inviting from what i've raced on it). Oh and Nurburgring stomps on complex string in having to remember the corners/apexes/where to lift off etc etc.

Doh! :dunce:

I can't remember how long it took, but at some point I got bit pissed off and quit playing it for several months.

Suddenly after long break I was able to run 'gold' after 3rd trying.

I didn't like that because arcade mode didn't let player set up car at all. I hate default settings. Chassis and springs as default are never fine for me.

Fortunately that's behind in history and I have 100% completed. :)

I'm trying to do the TT-10 now, because it's the only one that I have left of them, and I'd really appreciate some tips from you hard-core drivers out there!

..and feel free to post your best TT-10-time too...

edit: so far, my best time is: 4.53.184 (about 3.3 seconds behind 1st)

the thing i hated most about all the time trials was the fact that you can't turn asm off, except for the rally tracks. i'm not used to asm and it really slowed me down. i can get a much faster time on complex string with a stock ruf with no tcs or asm. you can really tell in the demo for tt1, where he messes up a number of the turns because he attempts to trail brake and the asm kicks in and drops his speed
