how long till you got gold or silver chrome?

Hi all,

Just wondering if you are like me and been playing since release, but are yet to come across the chrome paints?

Is there a trigger for these paints to become available or is at a case of be patient and they will eventually show up?

(did have a look in the search but couldnt find what i was looking for)

Have gotten two silver chromes already, one from 60 cars and I can't remember when I got the second. Painted my McClaren with one and the other I have still.. not sure what I want to get the chrome treatment next.
 
Took me ages Stu,

I believe it was the 800 car mark before i got rewarded with Gold Chrome...
(Silver came around the 550 mark i think)

Cont... I know dudes who got them after only 90 cars or so though, (Luck of the draw)...
 
You will receive a special paint chip every 30 cars and from what I have experienced, it is completely random what you will get. You can restart the game when it shows you have received a special paint(for purchasing your 30th car), but you have to make sure you don't save. Meaning, quit the game while the special message is still on screen, do not press OK. You can repeat this until you get the chip you want.
 
Like what RESNA86, it's completely random. So keep building up your collection.


I've gotten Gold Chrome twice already. Once when I got to 320 cars, the second time when I reached 390 cars in my garage. I've only gotten Silver Chrome through trading. Always a fast and easy solution.
 
you'll never know, i got my gold chrome at 150 cars in my garage. the 150th car was lancer evo rally car, maybe that helps the "randomness", good luck!
 
The very minute the first trader here on GT5 offered them up for trade :sly:

720 cars for chrome....gold chrome....i wanted chrome(silver)! Atleast i put it to good use.
 
I am not sure why you guys are still so confused about this issue.


I hope my post will set it straight once and for all.

1) You get/receive special paints for every 30 cars you get into your garage.
2) When you get the message / announce for the new paint: the New color paint being receive is completely random!
3) ... with Chrome paints being a much rarer occurrence than matte paints.
4) You have a second choice other than push X to accept it:
You can exit the game without accepting the gift, restart the game, get another announce with (hopefully) another color. And If you are still unsatisfied, repeat step 4 until content.

I started doing this when i got to my 120th car, repeated the process when i got the 150th car, repeated again when i got my 180th car, and again with my 210th car, and yet again with my 240th car.

So far i got 3 Chrome golds, i could have gotten 5 if it wasn't for other Matte Paint and Silver Chrome that i wanted to have instead of the Gold Chrome.


Just for reference, i noticed that usually, it would take me around 30mins of looping Step 4, and going through about a dozen exits, game loads & 12 different special paints before i get the Gold Chrome.... Therefore count on wasting on average 30 mins before you get the Gold Chrome, unless you are lucky, which happens. But dont give up.... it's better than buying 750 cars and still hoping because you Accepted their random gift each time... You should always ask for the gift receipt and return the gift for what you want ;)






What i haven't tried yet is :

for example, when you know you are one car away from your 30th,
why dont we buy a kart as the 30th car?
And of course, right after we will get the message for the new special paint,
we go through the above process (step 4) until we get the desire special paint. ONCE Satisfied.

And here is the question:

Can't we just sell the kart we just got, which would reduce the number of car in our garage by one (logically), and which means we can buy once again
to make for the 30th car.... and so we SHOULD get another message for special paint, right ?

This method means that it would cost us money (lose of value in car sale)... but we would technically get more special paints at our wishes by looping around the 30th car bonus...

Has anyone tried that alreadY?

I'm trying it out now.

Been through 10 matte paints so far, still no chrome :(

Is there an update number the chrome becomes available at? Cause PD really badly wants me to have matte purple.

20 matte paints, still no chrome.

Maybe you need to be at a minimum Level for the chromes to start appearing.

At least when matte black comes back around I can grab that, if it does before the chrome I will, then I'll try this again when I'm at a higher level (currently A-33/B-34)

Got Gold Chrome @ 370 cars, still haven't seen a single Silver Chrome yet and I have 450 cars.
 
Just got it with my 210th car today :-)

I did the same thing, although it only took about 15 minutes of exiting and restarting the game before I received it. I decided to use in on my McLaren rather than trade it for cars as well. I had 240 cars in my garage when I got my Gold chrome chip.

Since then i've received 3 Silver chrome paint chips but i've only used one of those chips so far.
 
Did trade for two silver chromes, have used them both up and haven't gotten another since. Was supposed to get a gold chrome for an X2010 but the trader scammed me off.
 
I've only gotten a chrome paint chip (Silver or Gold) through trading - and that's with 992 cars in my garage.
(Admittedly, I've never gone and backed-out of GT5 just to get a do-over on the free special paint. I probably could've gotten plenty if I have, but I've just traded away all the matte paint chips I received for paint I wanted instead.)

In case anyone's wondering, you can't buy a car to hit the next free special paint chip, then sell that car and buy another to hit the criteria for another free special paint chip.

I got my silver chrome paint when I had 90 cars in my garage. I really don't care about the paints, I just accept them and move on.
 
I got 5 chromes, made a different account, duped the chromes to that account, and now I get 5 chromes a day.
 
Okay so as my last post said I gave up and decided to grab the next Matte Black when it came around. Another 40min of reloading goes by with matte pink & purple the most predominant. Then all of a sudden "Poof" Gold Chrome!!!!! So I sit for a few min looking at the screen unsure of what to do. I had no car in mind I felt suited for Gold Chrome, I was hunting Silver Chrome for my 09 SLR. I do want the Gold Chrome, but Silver Chrome and another Matte Black are higher on my list. I take the plunge and reload, first up after Gold chrome was Matte Black ( WTF!!!!) is PD in my brain and knows how to tempt me away from the Silver chrome I'm after. I sit and stare again, do I grab the Matte Black and wait till the next cycle for the Silver C? Or take the plunge again holding out for my number 1. I go for it, and finally after close to 2 and a half hours, I got a Silver Chrome SLR.
 
10 mins from the discovery of both... Yeh I cheated.
 
I got sliver chrome, literally, within the first week of me owning the game, but I haven't seen one since. I'm not going to use them for anything except rims..so..whatever.
 
I got my only chrome paint sometime shortly after I got to A spec level 40
 
I have over 1200 cars an have not seen a single chrome or gold.
 
1st Silver chrome - Golding all Karting Special Events
2nd Silver Chrome - 330 cars
3rd Silver Chrome - 540 cars

1st Gold chrome - 630 cars
 
The game never gave them to me. I had to trade for them.
 
Got 1st 3 silver chromes by trading a BMW McLaren F1 GT-R Race Car '97 for them & got the gold chrome on my 4th restart from buying a 30th car shortly after Update 1.08 when it was released.:cool:
