How many gigs of internet is enough for ps3 online?

I have been using free internet that has been set up in my building but have decided to get my own for better service.

I'm only getting new internet for the PS3 so my PC wont be using any gigs.

How many gigabits would be enough?
 
I get 100Gb a month and i have never used that all up, and i use with PC as well. I only play a few ours of GT5 a day and some days i don't even play. I guess it depends how often you will be using it and what games you play and how long you play them for, or if you download games to your PS3 or you buy them on disk. I'm no expert but i hope this help

Thanks, I don't do any downloading other then updates etc. I do use my PS3 quite often but figured since it will only be one system using the internet i would be able too downsize on the amount of gigs needed.
 
A bit off topic but were are you located that they have a data cap on your internet. I have only ever seen packages for download upload speeds.

I was told internet companies arent aloud to sell unlimited packages anymore.

Would 40 gigs be enough?

Really? They have only just become affordable down here. My sister and her boyfriend pay $60au a month inc line rental.
 
I honestly couldn't tell you what would be enough. The last time I had the net in my name I was running verizons fiber optics and had a 50 up and 50 down connection. Had it for a year and never got capped.

Are you asking how many GigaBYTES of Data you will use per month while racing on GT5 Online?

Or, the more common question, are you asking what data transfer speeds (Measured in GigaBITS) are acceptable for racing online in GT5?

If your question is the former, then the Australian fellow answered your question.

If your question is the latter, then you only need 5-10 MBPS download and 2-5 MPBS upload. You'll want to make sure your ping is under 200-250MS to an international host, and under 20-50MS to a local host.
 
3mbps is acceptable for download as that is what I use. Also, playing online you will rarely reach 1gig of data. I've used my phone as a tether and played for hours online, only reach around 100-200meg
 
40gbs!!!! I wish I had that. I have 5-6mbs here and I can usually connect no problems

Ok im going to clear this up.

Amount of gigs that online will use per month. not speed.

I am looking at a 40 gig cap max of memory space for PS3 online usage.
 
I have just a 6GB limit for my internet connection available per month, i´m not a hardcore gamer and have just time over the weekend to play.
I have monitored the internet traffic when playing GT5 for 1 hour and it used ~ 25mb/hour.
So maybe this will help you for your calculation

For only GT5 online and it's updates, 40 gig is overkill. You could safely go for that but if I were you I would check for a lower cheaper plan. Even 10 gig per month would be safe.

To the best of my knowledge there is no company offering data transfer speeds into the Gigabits. Current speeds are measured in Megabits/second. I myself have a mere 1.5Mbps internet connection speed, which allows me to race online, although I do get booted from time to time. The higher the better here obviously, for both up and download speeds. FYI, 1000 Mbps = 1Gbps(approx.)

As far as data usage, the sky's the limit here. The more time spent in online lounges the more data will be used up. There's no easy answer really.
 
You don't use online space for installed files in GT5 as far as I know so I don't know what the point of the question is. If you aren't talking transfer rates (gigabits) but are talking storage (gigabytes) then you only need a PS3 with a modest hard drive. If you have some sort of cap on your internet on the amount of content you can download and upload, I guess it would depend on how much you play online and how often.

I think its a case of the guy not using the totally correct terminology. Not his fault so maybe its not so fair to be critical. Not everyone is an internet guru!
 
unlimited fibernet here in belgium, for 50 euro/month, no worries at all, always good connection and fast !!!
 
I have a 250GB service. My monthly usage for the past 3 months has only been:

October: 30GB
November: 40GB
December: 45GB
 
I have recently gone unlimited but before that i had i 10 GB limit every month and I was fine.I play first person shooters a lot and I always have voice chat on and not once did I go over so you should be fine with 40 GB.

Yes it does say for instance you are playing GT5 online. Gt5 has to download the information about where the other cars are on track, any voice communication and any text that is written in the chat box. On a shooter its kind of the same the thing but it downloads player positions and voice chat.

Yes, also everytime you finish a game/match those stats have to be uploaded and saved too your PSN which takes up space on your internet memory.

I am in rural ontario and don't have the options you do in kingston (no cable or dsl in my area - wireless 3/4g only). we get by with 3-5gb most months and that's for two laptops and the ps3. although I do crack the whip for what we use the internet for - any kind of media over the internet is a bandwidth killer (ie. watching movies). PC users are forbidden from youtube, streaming media (video) and netflix is a no-no on the ps3. with 40gb you'd have no concerns.

in terms of speed, you don't need crazy fast internet either - any kind of high speed internet will be more than adequate. latency is the biggest issue.. but again, if the service offered to you is cable or dsl it'll be good enough.

Anything you do on your computer that requires Internet will affect your download limit. Sending an email, opening pages on the gtplanet website or any other website, updating your computer. Worst thing you can do to download like a madman: video streaming.

Here, for about 45$ a month, I have a 50gb limit per month. I rarely go over 15gb and I'm a youtube maniac.
