How much is it worth?

How much do you think my rig is worth? I'm moving and sadly i cannot take it with me =\ This does give me an excuse to build a new one! I want to make the new one out of 8020 extrusion 1515 black. Check out my rig in my sig. The rig and the wheel and the tv mount is included in the sale. I just dont know how to price it. Thanks in advance!
 
Well first you must consider the cost that was required to build it in the first place. Take that cost and the amount of money that you would like to have for it and probably average it out.

My rig cost approximately £40 to build (excluding the pedals, the seat I got for free) and if I was going to sell it, I would probably sell it for something around £90. Sounds like a lot considering the building price was less than half of the selling price but it's very cheap compared to commercial rigs which can go from £190 upwards.
 
I disagree, you will never get the money out of what you put into a labour of love. Though you might find someone willing to spend that amount of money for it I think it unlikely. I believe you need to look at what is available out on the market commercially and methodically determine where yours would fit in.

There are so many options available on the market these days and it is more than just about function but aesthetics too. And you can even purchase plans to build them which people do and that is about the journey as much as it is about the final product for those people.

Hopefully you will find someone interested in your rig. Of course you are going to be limited because your rig would need to be purchased locally.
 
Unless you find someone that wants that style of rig locally which I think would be unlikely due to its niche appeal you're best bet is to sell the wheel and tv separately by whatever means you wish (ebay?) and cut the rig up into useable lengths and sell it, someone may be after some box section for another project.
 
Unfortunately I think your rig has next to no value, well except to you and your lovely bride. I know I wouldn't want to purchase a rig made for two. I go down to my mancave and rig to get away from my girlfriend.

Perhaps if you could cut it in half and go from there, check my rig in my sig, I think racers would prefer a rig for one. Not to say no one won't buy it, you might find another guy who wants his wife/girlfriend sitting next to him for every race, gulp!!!
 
Well first off, im keeping the tv and second i dont have either a gf or wife lol. I built it with the intention of adding a second wheel but life happened as usual. I couldn't bring myself to cut it up though I do see the point that you guys brought up. My buddy said that he's interested, I told him $500 CAD. Would that be considered too steep?

You can get a RSeat for not much more. If your friend feels it is a good deal then to him it is a good deal. I myself would not take if it was free. Only because it does not fit my needs.
 
My next rig is going to be a single seater for sure. This price includes the wheel
 
Stupid question but here goes: Why not cut it in half and take it with you, weld bars to make 2 separate rigs one indoor one outside.
 
Looks like it would be really heavy and take a lot of space, Maybe someone would be interested but to be honest the rig would probably cost more to ship than most would be willing to pay for it. If it was made into 2 then you would be more likely to get a good price.

I built my own which likely weights much less and is on casters so is easy to move and takes up about 1/2 the amount of space. Total cost was about $150 excluding the wheel and pedals. I also use a Fanatec Elite with Club sport pedals so it works with the PS and the XBox as well as the PC.
 
It is really heavy. It weighs over 200 lbs. And it is because of that, Im not going to move it with me. Im moving 2200 km from where I am currently. I also spent my evening designing an 8020 rig
It needs some more work though thats basically the design

I looked into the black at the time I built my rig.
80/20 has to actually anodize the parts black after the tubes are cut.

It has to be anodized post-cut, because if anodized pre-cut, the edges where it is cut will be raw silver colored aluminum. Its not like you can buy it black off the shelf.

They will also have to anodize whatever fastening plates you elect to use if you want the whole thing black.

Keep this in mind, the pretty black anodizing will not be so pretty where it has been fastened together in the event you decide to change configuration after putting it all together.

Black sure does look nice though.

Your idea had merit but not for moving. Materials need to be strong and lightweight. If your buddy will give you $500, that's a lot, can you afford to give it to him for free It would be a great gesture on your part.

My rig breaks down into several smaller parts, it is incredibly strong because of it's design. Look into my build and you will see the secret to it's strength.

BTW, you are moving a long ways from Moose Jaw, where are you moving?, are you going to school somewhere? BTW I'm in "the Hat"
 
I would agree with Left. Giving it to your friend wouldn't help your new build, but it would be a very nice gesture.
And it's always nice to be nice.

If i was to give it to someone for free it would be the guy who helped me build it haha! I'm moving back to Hamilton, ON. I just can't wait til June!

The caps will only cover the cut ends, that will not address cuts made for anchor bolts or marks left on the anodizing from connecting plates.

True. Im not too picky though, I'll just be happy to have a rig. Good point about the anchor bores though. I think a little bit of electrical tape should cover that, the anchors themselves are going to be flush right?
 
MrDavid, I just want to clarify that I have had no intention to criticize your plans, just trying to give you heads up since I have built a few things with this stuff including the rig in my signature.

The anchor bolts should be flush, see this 80/20 video regarding anchor bolts for more info.

80/20 has a whole section devoted to black anodizing, for ref.
see this link.

I stand corrected, seems as if 80/20 does indeed stock black anodized profile now.

After you click through a few of the pictures in the above link you will see a rig done in black.

Also, I found this black anodized rig that was posted on the T500 thread a while black, you may want to give it a look for reference.

Best of luck on your move. I am a true believer in the old adage, "what goes around comes around" give your rig away, sell it, it's all good. :)
 
Ha my boss wound up buying it for 700 with the tv for his son! He wanted it because I built it in his shop.
