How much of incident involving you are down to you?

I suppose it really depends on the intent of the question:
  • How many incidents involving me do I initiate? 15-20% mostly in the "I braked a touch too late and tapped your bumper" or the "too fast for side-by-side and understeered into you" variety...they'd call in "rubbing" in a NASCAR room. Keeping in mind that I am involved in very few after getting into the "higher" tiered races in B/S.
  • How many incidents do I share blame? 99.5% leaving room for the legit "I'm 10 lengths back but going for the pass on the apex" divebomb or similar jackhole moves. If I'm involved there's something I could have done to avoid contact.
  • How much of the blame do I share for incidents? 51% if I want to call myself the better driver. 50% if I think you're an idiot. :O "Full Verstappen" we're calling it? :D
 
I would say around 20%. However I had not played for about three weeks and today rejoining on interlagos was a mess - probably closer to 60-70 and now gotta be careful not to lose the S. I'd say that part would be that my racing pace is now slower that qualy pace and defending on this track is a nightmare - in general it appears it takes time to get back in Sport shape :)

I don't mind saying I smile a little wider every time he does something stupid and ends up on the side of the track later.

What do you do when a 1 bar connection is draft passing you on bluemoon bay... Lost 16 SR in my first attempt there and had 12 sec of penalty by lap 9. Actually at least 50% of my incidents involve lag if not more. The game is terrible at handling lag. Any yellow connection usually means trouble.

I let them pass. If they are drafting, they probably have a speed advantage and it should be a clear cut pass.

There is one driver who I race with a lot who has 1 bar connection and is quite jumpy on the track. Very frustrating as you can't do anything about it. If he throws it up the inside, I let him have it. If he is attempting to pass around the outside, I hold my line as it is very unlikely he will lag/teleport inwards and make contact. I pick my battles, and sometimes losing a position is a much better proposition than risking an off/penalty.

As I'm from New Zealand, my average connection is yellow, and 90% of Australians/NZers have yellow bar connections. I don't have an issue with lag/jumpyness outside of the odd driver, which I feel is more down to their ISP rather than lag.

It was Bluemoon bay though. Not just him, a group of 5 people. Sure I let him pass, then he hits the wall in front of me and I pass again. Too early to pit in lap 2 to get rid of him, and he can catch back up by drafting. Sometimes there's just not much you can do.

After that one race with the laggy player, I went all the way down to SR.E from draft bumping. Which was lots of fun, no penalties, no SR Down for any of the draft bumps, yet still demoted another SR level after every race, no matter what DR I was lowered to. It must still subtract points without giving notice. Luckily the cars I was pushing did not suffer any SR loss, helped a couple people to victory, fun stuff.

Today I'm already back to SR.99 from racing on Interlagos. I only got punted once and build up a clean streak of 4 at the end. Always keep the door closed on that track to discourage dive bombing. And indeed, let the laggy player pass, he'll either bump the car in front of you off the track or they both end up with penalties and you pass them at the finish line...
 
Most of the sport races I've done were on the Blue Moon Infield for Gr.3 some day or two ago. It ended up raising my SR from D to S. With my races there. I'd say not many accidents were caused by me, but rather by lack of awareness. An accident that happened at the hairpin was a Mustang taking the outside and turning into my inside line. You can't hope to cut off the inside from the outside when the lines cross. I ended up hitting from the side and he spun out. I didn't lose any SR, but I still feel bad for it. But he should've known. There was other cars around me too. That line was self-destructive.
 
I've put 21-40% closer to 21 than 40 though. I'm an aggressive driver, which does put me at fault occasionally, but i'm certainly the victim more often than the offender. And then there are racing incidents where no one is at fault. That happens when racing hard.
 
My most favourite part of watching F1 is to just wait for him to make stupid mistakes :lol:
He surely is the perfect GTS divebomber that then rages about you after the race :dunce:

It seems like most people on this forum (if they were Verstappen) would claim that his latest incident was "he left a gap and turned in on me.... and I got the penalty", when in fact, it was just **** judgement and **** driving on Mr V's part.

Same as Marc "I'll nerf everybody out of my way because I'm faster" Marquez. That's "hard" racing don't you know LMFAO at these people.

I race hard, but manage not to trade paint 99% of the time.
 
Most of the incidents I’m involved in are usually if I happen to spin out and accidentally take somebody with me. I also rammed someone off the road once because I thought he was being dirty, but I went back to the replay and determined it was entirely my fault.

Whoops.
 
I think the most frequent accidents I'm involved in are either getting rear ended and punted off track at T1- L1 or going thru a corner and letting the guy have the inside because he pulled up on the inside but then his car pushes up high and forces me off track because he does not realize he needs to go slower thru the corner than normal because he is not taking the optimum line. If I'm not noticeably faster on one corner than someone in front of me I will just follow in the hopes the he makes a mistake and I get past, if I finish right behind him because he didn't make a mistake or have a penalty then I congratulate him on a good race.
 
I voted 20-40%, but really im just ballparking at 25% i will admit every now and then i just mess up, lose focus or something like that. But id probably attribute 75% of that 25% to situations that weren't really my fault, but i still could have done a better job to avoid

I would say less than 5%... it's very rare for me to not leave room, "force" a pass, "block" a competitor... very rare for me to go off track, but if I do I come back easy/slow/deliberate... or, after all others have gone by... It's not great for my Dr. but it's the way i like to play... I "race" as if it were my personal pride and joy and I'm shelling out $ for repairs/paint...

Now, having said that, when i do touch another car, it's typically a complete and utterly inconceivable misjudgement ensuing in a massive wreck... giving new meaning to the term "punt".

Might keep some of the more "over zealous" drivers in check...

I think most of my accidents happens when I'm not fast/competitive enough, I tend to be too slow and get rammed from behind (I never use ABS and sometimes don't spend enough time to practice the track so my breaking points might be before the normal ones). I can't blame others for that, I guess the norm is to use ABS.

I could put ABS on weak or default, but I really enjoy the stress of driving without this aid !
 
Verstappen... Azerbaijan... and both the FIA and Red Bull weaseling out... what a joke.
He's going to get someone seriously injured (or, god forbid, worse), and, the FIA and Red Bull will be dirty for having done nothing.

Surely the only true answer is 100%, because if you weren't in the Race there would be zero chance of you being involved that is 0%. Therefore the the percentage must be 100 - 0 = 100.
Its your fault for playing, blaming others is passing the buck hehe.

It's been said a thousand times on here that almost every single accident can be avoided if your paying attention and anticipate the move others make around you.
It's shocking but not surprising so many think just because they are not the ones initiating the contact that translates to no faut on their end.
People would find out how wrong they are if put in a real car in a real race where every move you make has consequences.
 
Kids playing games will always use every advantage you give them. If the responsibility is solely yours to avoid a car that is going to hit you (because they don't care whether they do or not), there goes the entire concept of clean racing.

However, I feel that, if at the end of every race you couldn't leave the lobby until shown ALL your penalties in replay (and the consequent inability for the basher kids to quickly leave the race and join another), there might be a calming effect! Some of them might be in there for 20 minutes having to watch their incompetency. If there's one thing gamer kids hate, it is being shown their inadequacies...:dunce:

By your definition, all of them..! Just like all of yours are yours. Nobody is at fault that hits you if the onus to get out of their incompetent way is yours alone.

I tend to race as if I'm in a real car. And could die. Or be stuck with many thousands in repairs. But few do. If you want to win, you have to play THEIR game. That's kind of the point, isn't it? It's a game... Without real world consequences, few worry about real world behavior.

So, there is no fault. because there are no consequences.
 
If i did a mistake and someone else is involved, i say sry. Cant remember when i had to say SRY last time, weeks ago....
So i would say 1-5%
I love close racing and with the right people(wheel, low ping) it works. Also im driving very foresighted and brake for others, let room, avoid crashes. Better kiss the wall insteed of other drivers. But there are soo many "others" out there especially in gt-short i get hit almost every day from someone ^^

Where did you get the notion that my definition of clean racing is all contacts are my fault? If anything I voted 21-40%
I respect Lion's definition of clean racing where almost all contacts are 50/50 to blame, but that's about it. I respect it. I have my own definition of clean racing.

In the end, you're saying that you have 0% incidents where you're at fault? Damn, must be nice to race with you sometime if you're that clean :dopey:💡
 
I do my utmost to avoid contact with people, I'll happily back off early going into a corner to avoid running into them and if I know someone is alongside me going through a corner I won't take the full racing line, and I'll try to leave room (unlike say, Max V...). Some are my fault though, through mistakes and mainly in heavy braking zones. I find braking with the right stick on a DS4 a little inconsistent, but it's my preferred way to control it. So yeah some are my fault, but you know what, if I know it's my fault I'll slow down and let them back past.

Getting punted off the track on the last lap at Interlagos with such force I could have gone from turn 8 straight to turn 10 had there not been a wall in the way is definitely not my fault!

It's like you're saying any incident you are involved in is your fault because you could have avoided it.
While you may be able to anticipate that an incident is going to occur, anticipating what actually happens is a lot more of a crap shoot.
There can also be situations where you react correctly to one persons mistake only to be hit by someone else not paying attention to what you're doing.

Sometimes you just get screwed no matter what you do, but that doesn't mean it was your fault because you just happened to get caught up in someone else's problems, or get taken out by some over zealous, under skilled jerk.
It happens to real racecar drivers all the time. Just look at the crazy multi car accidents in NASCAR. Not much you can do when there's 10 cars crashing in front of you and 20 more right on your tail...
 
I feel I get more incidents when actually trying hard avoiding stuff. For example, braking for the Variante della Roggia on Monza in the first lap. I always go out of the slipstream of the car ahead, knowing it's gonna be a head-tail collision if someone brakes late or early. This often results in slower corner speed and this is where someone else always runs into me. Those kind of incidents could be classified as partly my fault, but in the first lap it often comes down to a lot of luck.

I'd say about 40/60. After a disconnect and getting a rank drop, 10/90.
