Does a Re-Release of GT5 Makes Sense?

GT5 is the highest selling PS3 game of ALL TIME.

Over 6 million copies. There is no need for a re-release.

http://playstationlifestyle.net/2011/02/22/gran-turismo-5-is-already-one-of-the-best-selling-ps3-games-ever/

I don't think it's that easy.
The real impact of the dissapointment in GT5 will be noticeable when GT6 (or a new GT5) is released. The blind confidence is gone.
I bought GT5 5 minutes after the release, purely based on the assumption that it would be great. Probably most people bought the game blindly. Now I (and others) would think twice before buying the next installment of this game.
Then there is Shift 2, which, as you can see in the shift forum is getting a lot of positive attention and rightfully so.
Shift has attracted the attention of some hardcore GT fans and hopefully EA will see this as a reason to focus a bit more on the physics in the next game.
Currently people will probably buy both games, but I am positive that EA can make a real competitor for GT6.
So, a good rerelease might restore some of the confidence in the GT series.

I really want a "complete edition"- include all update, all DLC for a collection item.
this is possible while the game development stop ,maybe 2 years later ,before GT6 release.

PD have really dropped the ball this time round. The only way I can see them continuing on as the best racing sim creators is by making a large patch to fix all the current problems for GT5 (I'm not talking about adding tracks or premium cars). Secondly by releasing an awesome GT6 release for the PS3. Then... once the PS4 is released, PD has to have a GT7 Prologue released quickly followed (within 12 months) by GT7 (with no stupid issues like GT5).

If the first two things don’t happen ie… the fix for GT5 and an awesome GT6 release you should then know me by the following name. FORZA_Fanatic69.

The main thing that hampers my enjoyment of this game is not the standard cars, or even the blocky shadows (but they desperately need sorted, along with the blocky dust/rain spray), no what really ruins my enjoyment of this game is an awful UI which has not moved on one jot really since GT1, and could learn massively off other games. Frankly why they need to have load screens anywhere in the menu system is beyong me. A load screen when going into the dealership, a load screen when you go back. It may only be a second or two but when trying to get things done it all adds up. Silly things like when buying an upgrade, having to click an ok button at least two or three times, especially the last one which merely confirms you've installed the part (which you know already) but you get a dialog box that needs to be 'ok'd away. Utterly pointless. They can load up the thousands of assets needed to show you a racetrack and several different cars, so why can't a relatively simple thing like the menu system not all be just one section, where you can do everything you need to do, buy cars, inspect your garage, choose an event, without loading between each and every little segment within that.... c'mon PD get rid of the inefficient design and get with the 21st century. The car handling and track details are sublime, it's so fun to play, but it would be nice to utilise the benefits of virtual racing and let us change cars at will with no loading out and back in just to change your car etc... Please!!

I see re-releases of many titles with included DLC content and patches all integrated. I would expect the GT5 Greatest Hits edition to probably include a Spec II integrated update on disc when the time comes. The patch of course would be a free download for older disc owners, but it makes no sense to force new buyers to download 1GB of updates in the future nor is it an efficient use of bandwidth. So I do think there will be a Spec II disc available sometime in the future, probably Christmas if it even comes this year.

I understand your point, maybe I've just become more cynical with age but gaming IS a revenue based industry. I have a friend who works for a medium sized game developer and he's told me how over the years the development team has shrunk while the marketing team has grown to the point where it now exceeds it.

Initial sales are what companies go for. It's more effective to use marketing to generate hype and guarantee initial sales than to rely on a game's quality to sell itself. That's a bit black and white and there are exceptions but anyway I'm going off topic.

What I was getting at is that when you say something like 'The blind confidence is gone' - you know that's a valid opinion. Probably some people share it and some will not. But the point is PD or Sony won't make decisions on a few people's opinions. They make decisions on facts.

Now GT5 has sold over 6,000,000 copies worldwide.

Shift2 has sold (across all platforms) worldwide something like 450,000.

Now I'm not making a Shift2/GT5 war thing here, I'm just saying that from PD/Sony's PoV I seriously doubt that they feel the need to put in the development time of a big new GT5 re-release when the game has sold more copies than any other PS3 game ever made, and dwarfed its nearest system based rival by such a margin.

That kind of sales performance doesn't ring panic alarms in central offices :P

I have no doubt that GT5 will continue to be updated with minor patches (and incidentally it's very rare for a game to receive as many minor revisions so soon after release that GT5 has), but I don't see a GT5 spec II, etc happening. It is not justified via needed sales, and with the ability to patch GT5 it is not justified from a pratical perspective.

I might be wrong but that is just how I see it. Sorry for the long post.

Is there any relevance between this meaningless fact and the OP?

Yeah this is more along the lines of what a GT5 Spec II would be. It would virtually clean the game up, change the presentation to be more contemporary to really differentiate it from "vanilla" GT5.

Its kind of like... Super Street Fighter 4. Same basic game, just really refined, much more user friendly, and just fresh and updated.

I have no doubt that the market would have room for a Spec II version, and people will buy it right up. Probably wouldn't be a good idea to sell it at fulll price, but kind of like how Super Street Fighter 4 is - $30 sounds fair to me. Afterall, it wouldn't be an entirely new game - just an updated version that irons out all the issues with GT5 and with a little more content. Nothing too huge, nothing that would draw efforts from GT6's development.

Who expects PS4 to be released at the end of 2012? I certainly don't. I would rather have them patch things in as time goes on than wait for a re-release.

Im sure thats been put back until 2015.

As for a re-release, whats the point paying for it again? wasnt it clearly stated that there will be many updates and things added to the game over the next 2-3 years?and im sure all bug issues will be sorted out eventually, its all rush rush rush with people these days..

Just give us massive updates, and the Free Roam C-spec that Kaz originally wanted. also a series for each car type.

That's the point! GT5 looks like an unfinished game full of glitches/missing features only for those who have already played all the previous GT games, and not all of them. Otherwise, it's one of the best, if not the best, racing games out there...

I take it you have not played Forza.

That's it right there. They already have your money.

Is there any relevance between this meaningless fact and the OP?

The sales volume is not meaningless at all. It tells them that the game, as-is, is a success. Can you imagine Apple giving all the people that bought an iPhone 4 a new iPhone 5 when they come out because of the antenna issues? Of course not. They won't even give you a discount on the new phone.

A giant portion of those 6 million copies sold were well after the initial release, when anyone was free to read reviews, demo it at the store, etc. Caveat Emptor.

That said, I am in COMPLETE agreement with the post above that mentions the problems with the UI. Admittedly, this is my first adventure into the GT series, but I was astounded that such a popular title had such a terrible UI. Does PD have no decent designers on staff? From the convoluted pathways, the awful layout, the unnecessary dialog boxes, there are times when I choose not to do certain things because of the interface hassle.

I honestly don't know what you guys are talking about in terms of glitches/missing features/lameness of GT5 as-is. I've bought several other racing titles (Grid, NFS, Ferrari Challenge, Midnight Club) and none of them even come close to GT5 in terms of amount of hours of entertainment. There are no glitches that are deal-breakers.

May, there is no glitch which is a deal-breaker, but alot of huge let downs.

Im now talking about the current version of GT5 (v1.0 really sucked, no matter what you say. PD owes a huge sorry to all GT5 customers without internet):

- NASCAR/WRC aren`t used properly. Only 2 NASCAR tracks with only 16 cars per track. Just one A-Spec Nascar Event (and a special event), but no real representation of the sport.

- This game lacks ALOT of quality. They copy pasted 800 cars from a PS2 game. They also ported couple of GT4 tracks with minor touches... Just look at Laguna Seca. And I got the feeling, that standard cars havent got a refined physic model like premium cars.

- The car list is huge, has some classics, but atleast 70% of all cars offered there are just boring. Also, there were no real suprises. When GT4 was released, we got alot of LMPs and Group C cars, Muscle Cars etc.
What did GT5 bring? Nothing new. Classic grand prix cars would have been something new.

- Still no ingame race saves. We are living in 2011 now. Guess a save option during a Enduro would make this game so cheap and easy... Well, its sooooo challenging now with all those people driving there X2010s in 24h races and letting there PS3s on for several weeks. Oh... and there is no qualifying too.

- A-Spec is just a miserable failure. 90% of the offered events are easy and/or boring. A JGTC series with only 10 lap races? A Nascar series with 5 lap races on tracks like Monza? So many wasted enduros, like the roadster race on Tsubaka. Oh yeah, talking about tsubaka, why we got so many enduros at that boring track? Why are there so few events on Fuji, London, Eiger or Suzuka?

Well, I won`t waste any letters on the stupid Cr/XP reward system.

This game does only few things good, like online racing. I haven`t played this game since the PSN crashed.

To tell the truth I personally have way more fun with cars that aren't supposed to be racing such as Keis, stations wagons, big saloons, or in other words, "boring" cars (at least in stock form). I don't care much about super and race cars.

PD will release GT5 again for those WHO......

Don't Pay FULL price.
Don't buy scratched second hand BDs.
Don't Have higher than 2Mbits/s broadband.. so don't buy games that will need patches.
Don't have Online.
Don't read the internet web sites.

.....These users are normaly buying these titles in the EU.
16245591_500x500_1-1.png

and there are lots of them in the EU.

Has the OP ever heard of the word 'updates'? He obviously hasn't if he thinks GT5 needs to be rereleased entirely. :yuck:

Why not make a 20-25 dollar dlc expansion pack to address these issues and add a few missing tracks?

I'd rather just have them release updates instead, plus I don't think everyone who already bought a copy would buy it again..

I don't think it's that easy.

The gaps between games (GT4, GT5P, GT5) have been that far apart that I have moved to an XBOX and Forza, I will probably get the next issue of Forza when it hits the shelves (the same as I bought GT5) and be much happier with it that what I was presented with GT5.

|I also went and forked out $300 for the sig ed of the game thinking that it will be the last of the GT series, or would be that many years down the track b4 the next release that I wouldn't be buying it, so I went out with a bang, what a bad bang it was.

I havn't played GT5 for a couple of months now, and who knows when I might try it again. We all know the problems with it.... Dumb AI, bad menu's, pixel clouds... and so on.

PS4 and any further GT's won't be making it through my house door in a hurry, if at all!!!!!!

Yeah, but still we got no real suprises, right? I mean except the Zagato/Kübel/Schwimmwagen, there is no car in this game which we didn`t knew about before the release.

Well GT6 is, unofficially to be released around 2012, Kaz did say that the gap between GT5 and 6 won't be as big as the gap between GT4 and 5 was. GT6 to the PS4 is a better idea. GT5 has pushed the PS3 to its limit.

I would easily buy a new re-release with these options...

-MORE RELEVANT TRACKS!!

-Saving in endurance races

-Clan racing

-Properly done NASCAR.

I voted no.

My two cents: Taking out all the trolling and the "zomg this game is sooo crap, where have PD been the past 9000 years!!". The game itself has flaws and some odd decisions by PD, but its nothing that can't be fixed.

Every GT series for me felt like it was journey and i just didn't feel that as much in GT5 but it's irritatingly close. I'm positive a big update with all the tracks we miss from GT4 and an overhaul of the menu and online systems will make this game an absolute beast.

Stay positive!

How much sense would it make to re-release GT5?

I'm just going to say that I didn't even bother reading a single paragraph of the topic post because I didn't have to. There's no argument that could logically be made for re-releasing GT5. GT5 is GT5, and that's it. They haven't completely reshaped it into a totally different product dramatically different from the original release, and even if they did it wouldn't matter because the game is still already on the market.

No.
