Thought this would be a fun (or maybe sad) thread. How much time is everyone spending each day trying to shave lap times?

Probably a total of about 6 or 7 hrs. I'm 72 in the NE. Now that I'm back at work I'm gonna try 1 hour a night, but I just can't stop myself from playing the rest of the game :) Maybe I'm just not a huge nissan fan :D Love the twitchy feel of the tuned Z tho...If only nissan made a small MR car....

Too much...I have my favorite music as my driving soundtrack so its utter bliss up until I overshoot a turn and watch my rat bastard ghost go flying by...then curse words interrupt the pretty music and family starts knocking on my door. Then the sun rises...

I've spent about 12 hours total on it. Might spend around 30 minutes a night for a while just to stay fresh with the various cars' physics.

let's see...

24 hours total
- 8 hours for sleep
- 9 hours for work/commute
- 0.5 hours hygiene
- 3 hours dinner/"wife" time
- 1 hour gym

That leaves about 2.5 hours/day, which sounds about right because I'll usually sit down for a 2 hour session. Christmas, New Year's, other parties, my sisters visiting from out of town, etc. cut down on how many days I can play so it's usually not 2 hours every day.

When I first got GT in November I would play even more, cutting into dinner/"wife" time...the same will probably be true for round 3 if I find myself struggling to post a competitive set of times.

id say ive spent 6 hours the first two days. Then 2 hours for 3 more days and stopped lol.

Probably the last week or two ill spend 5 hours a day

Around 18-19 hours for me.

As is seeming to be "increasingly" the case, I am in a similar boat to Blindside on a variety of details. 👍 (though he's still faster everywhere). I have been averaging, generally speaking according to a similar daily schedule, about 90 minutes of seat time per day, but taking a break and not playing at all every 2 or 3 days.

In a pseudo-related rant, as I get closer to the limit it's no suprise that it's taking me longer to improve my times... I've been doing 90 minute stints each day for 2 days now on the cape, but have not been able to improve my 2'47.1. I did throw away a lowwww 2.46 by spinning it in the last corner  I have beautiful sectors, then make mistakes to always blow it. Just cannot seem to get a lap together where I do my best on each sector. A low 2'46 is coming and I have even been able to match or EXCEED fixbywire's 2'45.1 pace in some sectors, but it is not consistent or repeatable. Back to topic I just need to MORE TIME to continue learning the nuances of GT5 physics (specifically the tires and how they behave when sliding) and the Cape track itself.

At one point you had me at Rome...and probably could still beat that time if you really wanted to.

You have the skills and the knowledge at this point. It's just consistency. If you can hit each sector fast once every 3 or 4 laps, you'll get a "fast" lap in like 1 out of 50. But if you can start to hit each sector "fast" every other lap or so, that magic laps will come much more frequently, and sure enough you'll find even more time you are leaving on the table.

I just got into the mid 2:45's last night, and the key wasn't actually getting any faster at any particular sector (although on one broken lap I ran a 48.69x first sector...no video to prove it, but whatever). The change was that I was consistently hitting 48.75-.90 at sector 1 and 1:25.3-.5 at sector 2 so I could relax a bit more and finish out the lap instead of crapping my pants with excitement when the blue sector time flashes on the screen.

I hadnt been spending alot of time until this past Friday. Since then between Friday, Sunday, Monday night, and last night i have probably spent like 20 hours on the Cape.

Yeah, I saw that - had you and a few of the other uber fast guys for a day or so at Rome! But I knew you would answer soon. Still, it put a smile on face. :) That was a lap with a weak but acceptable 1st corner, and weak but acceptable kink speed. If you watched my video, you'll see that I completely nailed to "almost perfection" the high speed braking zone/2nd gear left hander at turn 9. That was the magic in the lap that set me up for a tittilating sector 3. I'm at a 1.21.1 or 121.2 if you grab my "consistently good" Turn 1/Kink times. I had my roomate take a pic on his Iphone so I could cherish the moment. :) Still, thanks for the kudos. I'll give Rome another shot once I've achieved my cape goal.

Thanks man, I really appreciate the encouragement. I'll keep working at it 👍

Congrats! That's SMOKING fast. 48.69 is unreal. The first sector is actually my worst sector. I can nail corner 1, but I lose big time all the way through to the entry of the hairpin before the split time marker. My best ever was a 49.0. I consisently run 49.3. No video necessary, I believe you. :sly:

I know what you mean regarding getting the first 2 sectors down. When I do I see those blue numbers pop up, my heart starts pounding out of my chest! Being able to relax and carry on a fast but less risky lap is a big deal. I'll keep pushing!

Will put in another 2 hours tonight. Gonna nail that mid 2'46 tonight.

Edit: Sorry to the OP. I have a bad habit of getting way off TopiC!

Haha, this happened to me last night. I was one tenth behind Fix's 2:45.1 time, and I got really excited and hit the wall coming out of the lawnmower section. That was at the end of a 2 hour session.

So in regards to this thread, I'd say 1-2 hours a day. I will ramp it up for the later rounds.

When I first rented the game I spent a few hours each day. Later I got the game as a christmas present and I havent even touched the A spec. The last few times I played was online. The standard cars just ruin the experience for me so I am having a hard time getting into GT5. :indiff:

I'm about 9 hours in total. I won't win any cool prizes for being #1, so I'm doing the bare minimum to get to round 2 atm :D

+1 on that! I have trouble motivating myself to want to take a crappy nissan with crappy tires and try to abuse it around the track for an hour or so when it's a lot more fun to be working on that Platinum PSN trophy

Then don't use them.

I never really got the whole standard vs. premium issue. I mean the cars all drive the same way when your are in game and who cares if they don't look quite as good in replay. I guess thats another advantage of always using the bumper view, you don't have to get used to switching back and forth from in and out of the cockpit all the time. :sly:

I spent probably 15 hours getting to a 5:12.0. Then another 10 hours going from a 5:12.0 to a 5:11.6. =(

Same here, only slower times of course. It used to be where I could improve every time I sat down for a 1-2 hour session. Now is when I'm starting to have improvements less often.

About 2 hours total. Top 30 in the SE.

I have the same time as TRC Goose, and about the same place as TRC Goose, in the SE. I'm waiting to spend my time in the next round.
