when i was playing Forza 4 I turned everything off as that game rewarded you for less aids

on GT5/6 I run std ie. ABS 1 and TCS 5 as you have to control it per car (i believe)

and i'm not going to change things per car (Forza 4 is global)

so is ABS 1 and TCS 5 fairly reasonable sort of setup for modern cars

obviously zero everything isnt realistic as all cars have abs and tcs and dsc etc

i tried Zero everything and the cars get too wild

I always use TCS 1, I think it's perfect for all cars. Because if you set it to zero, like you said, the car gets too wild, if you set more than 1 you start losing more time and the car characteristics also.

Well, take this into account:

None of the "aids" system in GT games - ABS, TCS, ASM - are "simulating" those very aids. They are simply assists for the driving model (suspension, tire slip, braking threshold…), not virtual representations of their real-life counterparts.

They are simply called like that because, well - comprehension, probably.

"TCS" is not simulating traction control. "ABS" is not simulating anti-brake lock systems. "ASM" is not simulating suspension roll assist. While "SRF" does not simulate anything, it is the One Assist To Rule Them All.

In my opinion, the cars in GT5/GT6 are have their real-life assists already "built-in". So, for example, there is vast difference when driving F430 on the Sport Hard tires with no assists and F40, simply because the F430 have both braking and traction assists of some kind already virtually simulated in their very model.

When you use driving assists in GT games, you are not "making" car more similar to its real-life counterpart (famous argument of "that car have ABS, so I am using ABS"), you are simply using a physical-engine driving assist which - I say it again - does not represent virtual simulation of such real-life assist, but it is simply a assists to the physics model.

Also, every single assist - TCS, ABS, ASM, SRF - influence all other assists as well, even if you have them disabled. For instance, having ABS at 1 will not only stop the tires from lockup, it will also improve traction (what TCS do) and suspension stability (what ASM do).

In my final opinion, the only proper setting for the traction control is zero (0), where you rely on the "built-in" suspension characteristics. Of course, you are more than free to use whatever suits you 👍

How much is good? None. No car gets too wild without TC. Getting a fine feel for a car's natural behaviour will always be faster than letting aids do the work.

No aids is definitely best in the long run. In your case of not wanting to individually change each cars setting I would say that the default TCS setting of 5 is much too high and will ultimately handicap your lap times. For an absolute beginner I would say, if you have to use TCS, a setting of 1 is all you need but would still suggest it best to learn to drive without it - the learning curve is pretty easy. ABS is a little more difficult to get used to with it turned off - especially if you're accustomed to 'dive-bombing' the corners! I would suggest maybe leaving it on 1 until you are comfortable with the TCS off.
Getting used to ABS off can yield good lap time results as it forces you more into the 'slow in - fast out' driving style that is optimal for good laps. ;)

None, it's much more fun for me without it. If I decide I want to slide out at the end of a corner I want to be able to do that.

Edit: My driving style also really slows me down when using TC as i'm just not used to my wheels slowing down on the edge of traction

It all depends on your own preference. Depending on the power of the car, my TCS is set to three at the maximum, while my ABS is usually set to 1. I don't bother with either powersteering, ASM or SRF.

I never use TCS/ASM. Being able to push a car to the very edge of control is what makes GT fun & having the game slow the car down or mess with your throttle for you just irritates me! (it's one thing that bugs the crap out of me, that if you go off course with no aids the game still limits your throttle and won't let you drive at any speed off course.. very annoying) However I do use the ABS 1 setting though because maybe it's my DS3 controller but the window between normal braking and full tire lock is incredibly small and it makes driving with ABS 0 just a total pain in the rear.

As much as you can take/feel comfy... This is a game and it had to be fun, Of course if you wanna learn some tricks on how to drive a car (or at least having a clue of what would or should you do) turn off everything and enable the real_Idon't_remenber_how_it's_called_In_English thing that set the track surface on "real" in the Track Setting menu
