How often do sent cars not show up in trades?

I tried my first trade yesterday.

I was trading a Peugeot 908HDi for a RBX2010. The other party suggested as mine was of lesser value i should send first. This seemed reasonable so i did that imediately.

Five minutes later i got a message from him saying that he didn't receive it. It hasn't showed up on his log either. I assumed that i had been scammed and i sent him a message telling him something to the effect of "well done, and enjoy the free car". He got really annoyed with this and i now believe him that he didnt get it.

Is it unusual or common in your experience to just have a car dissappear into the abyss? Perhaps we could approximate the percentage of success with sending cars over the internet. If it's below 90% i don't think i would try it again. The 908 was not a dupe but hard earned so it annoyed me a little, but not too much i guess.

i have had this trouble before there is nothing you can do, if it has not showed up in his log he has not recived it and you have lsot a car sorry mate
 
Did he go to the "gifts" section and check? It's often that the red star that appears on the "community" bar when you recieve gifts doesnt appear at all. Tell him to go to "gifts" and look again.
 
So the log will always tell if someone received or not? I didn't realise that this was a foolproof way of checking. I thought it just showed some of the activity. Thanks Bigfoot.

Apart from the first few weeks where psn was overloaded or they had problems with GT5 on psn

Since then i have only had one problem and that was last night.

I trust the person who sent the car and out of good will i will send him the car even though i diddnt get the one i wanted.
 
A few days ago It took about an hour to receive a car from a trade, but it came eventually. I wasn't really bothered thanks to the guy I was dealing with, as he assured me that if it didn't come he would just send another. Also, if you do lose it in 'cyberspace' then hopefully you backed up your save and can get it back.
 
Sometimes I takes a while. I did the exact same trade last week, from someone in in Australia. Took about 24 hours for me to get it...
 
This happened to me before. The problem was i hadnt restarted the game. I accepted the friend request while in-game using the xmb. The other trader had sent the car but nothing showed up at my end. I also discovered if you try to gift a car from that point, your newly added friend wont show up on the gifting screen.

So make sure he quits the game before accepting your request, then restarts the game to log back into psn.
 
weird stuff, i usually film the moment when i trade to prove the receiver you're not a liar but it won't help get your car back
 
i had the same thing, i borrowed a car and the guy assumed i had scammed him, but i didnt get the car, but i checked the next day and got it!
 
I have sent over 400 cars, only ever had 1 reported lost and that was at the beginning when the servers were overloaded.

This happens to me all the time:guilty:
 
The gift receiver only need to exit and reenter GT mode.

If you got "Operation completed" when sending a car, it will usually (always?) arrive at its target.

The only car I've lost was a Mark 4 where I got a "Sending failed", but the car was still nuked from my garage. If this happens you need to shut down the game immediately after the "Sending failed" message, before GT5 saves your inventory, or you'll need to restore it from your save game backup.
