how on earth do i substitute players in FM07?

I have tried everything! How do I actually do it? It's very annoying.

You read the manual?

You can click on your team name at the top of the screen and then, on the tactics screen, drag the player you want to remove onto the player you want to replace him with.

I've described what you do in game. When you click on your team name, the next time the ball goes out of play, your tactics screen pops up.
