I was wondering, how realistic is the clutch feature in GT5? Are you able to stall, or jolt the car? I was wondering this because I have recently just started learning how to drive with my dad, and have had trouble with 1st gear. The car jolts because I release the clutch to fast. Will the GT5 car do this?

Unfortunately not, If you miss shift, it will not shift and go into neutral. I would say that GT5 helps conceptually but the subtleties are lost.

Oh, can you also hold down the clutch and gas to build up revs then release the clutch to do a sort of "burn out?" Forgot to mention that in the OP.

No, none of the games simulate the mechanics of a clutch very well, they basically just do the bare minimum and use it to shift gears.

As for first gear, every clutch has a sweet spot (easy to find, just release the clutch until you feel the tension from the gear in the pedal... going past the sweet spot will stall the car)... that's where you should hold the pedal when you're ready. Then just apply the gas until the revs are between 1-2k, holding your foot steady on the slightly depressed gas pedal, then it's the trivial matter of smoothly releasing the clutch to start going. New drivers tend to be too hasty with pedals and the car jerks around and stalls out.

Yes you can stall the car in GT5 if you release the clutch too quickly from a standing start. You just hit the accelerator to start it up again. While running, you wouldn't normally stall a car by missing a gear change, so if you miss the change the game throws you into neutral, and you have to complete the gear change successfully to get back in gear, which takes a bit of getting used to.

I'm not sure how helpful it would be as a tool to learn to drive, although if you stick with low powered road cars and try and stay at a normal speed limit, it might be useful.

Good luck!

Of course you can, and yes you can stall, however there is not "start" button so pressing the throttle will start the car again aslong as you have it out of gear or clutch depressed.

It doesn't jolt, only if it does then i'll be a happy man and teach some kids how to drive. However, you can stall if you let go off the clutch too quickly just like in real life. I actually tried teaching some people with it, from getting to 1st gear and out, to down shifting with the proper speed/rpm.
