So, here's the thing. I'm downloading some anime right now, and no it isn't hentai, and it's at 11-15kb/s. :indiff: Then I run this connection speed test, and while it's running the d/l speed pops up to ~50kb/s. When the test is finished, it slows down to ~15kb/s again.

So to the point; How can I make the download as fast as during the test without needing to run the test? :boggled:

Help would be gladly appreciated.

Where are you downloading from? HTTP (e.g. directly from a website), Bittorent, mIRC, FTP, p2p or other? (Don't answer if it violates the conditions of this site though... ;) ).

I'm guessing you're not getting it from a server (and probably not from mIRC or FTP either). If this is true, your download speed is totally reliant on the upload capacity of the source(s) you're getting the file from.

When you're downloading the file, it's being uploaded from whoever you're downloading it from. If the source(s)'s upload speed is low, your download won't be high.

To speed up the file, try to find another source with a greater upload speed (generally a more popular or more frequented source or a server).

Illegal Downloading in it's intirety is against the AUP.

Are you behind a broadband router? If its something like BitTorrent, you'll need to make sure the ports the client are using are forwarded.

Run the test at testmy.net It is probably the most accurate on the web.

What type of connection are you on? 15kbps is not anywhere near broadband. Your ISP might be limiting your speeds.

Woo, I am 109 times faster than 56k.

It is Bittorrent, but it isn't illegal since it's from the official subsite.

I think I am, since I'm sharing the connection with my bro. And how do I forward those? :boggled:

Usenet 4 t3h w1n ...

WTF ?

Actually I talked to the broadbandhost yesterday asking if they had upgraded from 0.5mbit/s to the promised 2.0mbit/s. "Of course", they said.

Here's the testresult's.
:::.. Download Stats ..:::
Connection is:: 122 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)
Download Speed is:: 15 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Mon Dec 19 2005 08:51:38 GMT+0100
Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB download in 68.27 sec

So, I'm home from school. The download is at 45kb/s. I don't have clue why, but I did unblock the firewall before. :boggled:

EDIT: HOLY CRAP! Redid the test.

:::.. Download Stats ..:::
Connection is:: 17836 Kbps about 17.8 Mbps (tested with 579 kB)
Download Speed is:: 2177 kB/s
Tested From:: http://testmy.net/ (server2)
Test Time:: Mon Dec 19 2005 14:19:50 GMT+0100
Bottom Line:: 318X faster than 56K 1MB download in 0.47 sec

Torrents' speed depend a lot of the number of seeders and leechers. But your problem should be solved once you forward the ports on your router.

I'm still not sure how to do that. :dunce:
