im pretty sure i knew who doug was before you did, but nice try. :)

it also helps to read, m5power isnt a kid

Actually you haven't. So before you start telling off your seniors, get your facts strait.

And how do you think I knew he was a trend researcher for Nissan? Since when do kids get those kinds of jobs?

The richest county in the United States is Teton County, Wyoming, where Jackson, Wyoming is located. The median income of the area is $103,000. County 22 in the house! (that one's for all our Wyoming members - you know, all zero of them)

It takes a real man to admit when he is wrong...I am wrong. But I know Oakland County must be up there.

Dorifto
Yeah, that big old gold thing I serviced at Orinda Motors.

True - I'd forgotten, they used to sell some really huge vehicle here. But the old Quattroporte was little. What was that?

Just let it go, he missed the direction of your comment then you started bragging and he responded. He never said you didn't know of doug (I feel like I'm putting him on a pedistal or something) just maintained his position.

Even if you "know what you're doing" an under 18 year old child still does not need these cars--even if they somehow pay for it themselves. When I was 20 I owned a 3000GT VR4 that I paid for with my own money along with my house I bought in the same year--I was a responsible adult with already 2 years of experienced driving along with some SCCA driving lessons and car control lessons and I still wrapped mine around a pole. Even if you THINK you are mature enough maybe you're not...all it takes in 2 seconds of immaturity which alot of sub-18 year old teens DO exhibit at some point or another and your nice car gets wrecked and you get hurt. And I'll use the "all under 18 rule" all day long because no 18 year old has enough experience from ages 16-18 to drive these cars 99% safely. You need to build up your experience. If I were to at 26 somehow buy a Pagani Zonda I'd probably kill myself within a month because I'm not on the super car experience level yet at my age--I'm at an M5, Viper/Z06, EVO, SL55 AMG, and or DB9 level. You don't just jump from not driving anything to an M3 or Merc--that's just insane. Common sense dictates that beginners need begining training.

Actually I DID jump from 0-to alot of experience. Take a good guess at the 1st car I got behind. A 944 Turbo S.
When you practice your driving in a car like that, you tend to develop the skills to drive a VR-4 100% safely, and I did. I never had an accident caused by me in it.
And considering I could control it at 75Mph, I say I was pretty mature enough to drive it. And before you say, "Maturity on the Highway?" crap, I drove on the Speedway track.

You can keep saying "18 year olds can't drive" all you want. I learned to drive my VR-4 because I practiced and learned a car of its level and power.
And like I said, I also took schools and SCCA training.
So let's see....
~Practiced driving a high powered car before it.
~SCCA Training
~Used my OWN money
~No accidents caused by my fault
~Even paid for my OWN insurance after the 1st few months.
I'd say I was pretty mature for a "18 year old who can't drive a car like that safely."

I did learn how to drive that car safely, no matter what you think, because I was raised on driving a car like that.

Just because you wrecked at 20, didn't mean I was.

Actually I do drive, I've got my G1 and I've been driving without a license since I was 10.

And if I don't know how to interpret "November 2004", well then I must be retarded.

Or you could have just brought up the 15 year old in an M3 that outran the cops and escaped.

Ah but see, that was inmaturity there.
On my part, I didn't speed with Vr-4. Too afraid really.
The only I did that could be inmature was drive it without insurance for the 1st few months, but the again, I rarely drove it during that time anyways.

I am 18 and I bought my MERCEDES-BENZ with my own money. Ok, Ok, it's a 1987 300E. i'll admit that it is too fast for me, but i know how to control myself. i dont street race or stupid s**t like that. occasionally i will open it up (if you could say that) on a dry straight road, but never pass the speed limit by more than 15mph. i also scared the living crap out of myself by taking a high-speed turn too fast and spinning. from then on i drive very safe, no accidents, no tickets, nothing.

M5Power- could this old sedan here be the Biturbo 420/425? They were on the longer wheel base (2600mm, I think). The older QP's (I, II, III) were huge sedans. IV was a little big, same with V (Until the LWB V12 version comes out).

300E Guy- Ummm...that really isn't that fast of a car. 0-60 in the 7-8 range isn't that scary. However, my best friend getting a brand new CLK55 Cab on her 16th birthday is.

Wow the people you hang out with must be superfiscial as all hell. Kids don't deserve cars unless they work their ass off and pay for them. But another time prehaps.

And 7 second 0-60 is quick, what in the hell are you thinking? It isn't slow by any means, most of us drive cars that make it to 60 in 9-10 second. Sorry we all don't have rich parents that pay our way all the time to something fast.

it is my first car, i got it at 17. it is pretty quick compared to all my friends' junk cars. i know its not scary, but the first time i drove it i thought it was. since then i have driven the W124 500E/E500(wow!), and a 2001 540i. also a ride in a ferrari 360. no joke, same owner as the 500E.

Whatever, IMHO, 7-8 second 0-60 times aren't impressive. They're nice, and comfortable, but by no means quick or fast.

"We don't all have rich parents......."

What the **** are you saying? You don't even know me, how can you make stupid statements like that?

"Pay our way all the time to something fast"

Yeah, I know alot of people who are spoiled, and get insanely over the top first cars, but does that mean I'm one of them? My first car will do 0-60 in the high 5 to low 6 range. I think it's pretty quick. It's nice. It's not by any means "Too fast", or "dangerously fast". And guess what, UNLIKE MOST PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD, I'm paying for half the price of my car. Yep, half. No, I'm not paying for all of it, and to those of you who do, I take my hat off to you. However, THE VAST MAJORITY of people on this website have parents who bought them cars. I'm planning on getting, maybe, a '98 C43 AMG, in about 9 months. ( I could get a car now, but I'm waiting until I have more money). I'll be paying about $6,500 for it. Maybe a Mustang Cobra (4.6L, '95-98 style)

For an average car and average driving 9 seconds is more then enough to get to 60. All you are doing is getting on the freeway, there is no reason to have a real fast car.

What the **** are you saying? You don't even know me, how can you make stupid statements like that?

You come off as a little rich girl. And frankly it is stupid to only have to pay for half of your car. I have an extremely wealthy family, yet I've bought all 5 of my cars and I've driven everything from $50 Junkyard cars to my 18,000 dollar truck. Kids should have to pay for their car in full.

Most people on this board I've talked to have bought their own cars, look at the Crappy Car Club. You want to know what? I don't have a problem with them, if all they can afford is a beater then thats fine, at least they worked hard and have something to show for it.

You are planning on getting an MB with the AMG package? Wow I hope you have a good job since gas is 3 bucks a gallon, insurence rates are through the roof, and there isn't a warrenty on the car. You have a helluva lot more money then I do, either that our your parents are going to step in.

Looking the car up on Progressive you are looking at about 700 bucks a month for insurence. I pay that every 6 months for the Blazer. You need to realize that its not just the cost of the car.

700$/Month? That's INSANE. I'm looking at $3950/yr through Chubb. I don't drive that much. Maybe 5k miles a year, IF that. I have summer jobs. And don't worry, I've done the research on the car. :)

The only two people on this board that I've heard about first cars would be Doug and McLarenF1GTR - both given their first cars. The majority of people I know are given first cars. (Whether it be a new SL500, or mom's 20yo Volvo 240.

I don't know why you feel the need to say you have an extremely wealthy family... It seems pretty random. It doesn't have that much to do with wealth.

Why don't you destroy McLarenF1GTR, he got a 3000GT VR4 for his first car! (Thats what, $30,000?)

It's too bad you're so close-minded that you see me as a "little rich girl". It's sad, really.

You paid for your car. Heard ya the first time. That's great, I said I respected it, Mmmkay?

Ok...so you're going to have summer jobs, there's more miles. You going to school? There's more miles. You never going to drive it to the store?
There's more miles...
And hell it's already got 100k.
3950 a year?

For your first car?

It's not going to be in your name is it?

A woman's first car being a C43 AMG...and only running her 4g's a year?

I bought my first second third fourth and 6th vehicles....

There's 4 people you know now.

Well considering mom and dad are going to be paying for most of this C43 AMG...i'd consider you a little rich girl..

Don't act like they're not either. Especially since you were looking at one with what? 100k miles and 15k????
That's not even a SMART buy...let alone a car that takes you out of the "little rich girl" catagory...

$3950 a year is $329.66 a month...that's some serious insurance. Is the insurance going to be FULLY in your name? If so how old are you again?

The only two people on this board that I've heard about first cars would be Doug and McLarenF1GTR - both given their first cars. The majority of people I know are given first cars. (Whether it be a new SL500, or mom's 20yo Volvo 240.

My first car was a $3000 Dodge Daytona which I paid cash for that I saved myself. My next car was my 3000GT VR4 for which I placed a cash downpayment of $3000 of my own money and made my $450/mo car payments and $250/mo insurance for until I didn't have the car anymore. My next 8 cars I paid for with my own money...and here's the kicker...I'm from a very poor family which only a small portion of which has EVER owned a brand new car. How can you take pride in yourself by recieving something nice without paying for it? When I was a teenager and until now as an adult I've always paid for things with my own money. You know how I bought all my toys as a kid? WORKED for it, started mowing lawns at the age of 10 until I was old enough to get a real job.

I don't know why you feel the need to say you have an extremely wealthy family... It seems pretty random. It doesn't have that much to do with wealth.

Are you paying 100% for this new car? No? Then you are from a very wealthy family if they can afford a house, 2 (or more) cars for the parents, probably a house full of appliances./furniture/electronics, and on top of all that a Mercedes for thier daughter...wtf. Yea sure, you're not a rich girl.

Wow. You people really are pathetic. I mean, honestly, I hear good things about this forum from Doug, but I'm sure as hell not seein' nothin'.
I mean, I could understand you people being *****es if I came on here and said, "OMG Everybdoy, I'm gonna like drive a SL55 for my first car, and my parents are buying it, and it's so much better than anything you'll ever dream of driving, and I'm really rich".

Like I said MANY TIMES BEFORE, I'm not recieving it as a gift. I have a deal worked out with my parents that I pay for half of it (NO, DRIFTSTER, THEYRE NOT PAYING FOR MOST OR ALMOST ALL OF IT, I SAID HALF). Granted, because they're putting down half the money, they get say in what kind of car it is.

To my knowledge he bought the 3000GTVR4 New, or nearly new --- NOT WITH 200k MILES AND A BLOWN ENGINE. Don't be a moron. I could find you a beater C43 for $2k if I wanted to.

If I said I was getting a new Honda Civic, I doubt it'd be such a problem, even though the Civic is more expensive.

Why do you start calling me a rich girl just because it's a MBenz? I can find you many Chevy Luminas that are worth more than MBenzes.

Also, the $6k VR4 is bogus or ****ed up.

forgive me for going back on topic but about the engine they are putting in this car. I dont know if you guys are thinking about the vortec truck engines or the LS series but they say it will be a 4.6 liter and judging by the type of car it will probably be Cadilac's northstar V8, which is DOHC so...

If they use a Caddy motor in some Euro car, there will be some seriously unhappy Cadillac owners. Not that I'm one of them - I've got a 4.9 and nobody wants one of those, even though it's a better all around motor than the NorthStar.

And what's with all the hatred towards E55? So what, her parents are helping her pay for a car. My grandmother gave me my car because she got a new one. Does that somehow make me a rich kid, even though it's a fifteen year old car with nearly 200,000 miles on it? No.

It's not the people who appreciate help that you need to hate, it's the spoiled rich kids buying brand new BMW's with mommy and daddy's money and have no idea what the value of a dollar is that you should save your concern for.

But yeah, no Caddy motor in Euro cars. Very bad for GM.
