How do you do solo laps on a track?

Also, can you race against someone else's ghost. I downloaded a top replay. Can I race against it like in LFS?

(Extra Credit :) What is the optimal racing line for Daytona? )

Solo races are found in arcade section, Don't click on the first icon after you choose your location, its the second option :)
one is for race, the other for Solo time trial.

Yes you can Download Ghost cars, You can Go to Ranikings, and I think only for the TOP 20 players, Click on a name, and it's i think the second option from the left. Once you save it, go back to your screen on the location, and choose the load ghost option.

Well, youll figure it out :)
there is a translation section on very top of GT5Prologue forums :)

there is no preset optimal racing line for daytona in the draft. by yourself the bottom is good but it dont matter what line youre in as long as you get a good draft.

Thanks a lot! I was so annoyed thinking that there was no way to do solo hotlaps. This will really help my lap times.

Unfortunately, I'm so slow that I can't keep up with the ghost. I guess a ghost should only be used once you're almost there and need some pointers.

About Daytona,

In real life I see them driving very close to the walls at points. Is there a reason?

It also helps if you watch the replays you download and not just use them as a ghost.
Alot depends on what car you are driving.
With lower powered cars you can stick to the bottom. But with the higher powered ones I try and start high and sweep down.

Another thing I found with some cars it pays to stay in 5th as you to utilize the engine revs more effectively.

They drive close to walls, reasons is because there are A LOT of cars, and Another reason, they try to go from Outside in to the Outside on a turn, so thats y they are close to the wall.

actually it is to get a small run down the turn, if you notice it has a slight diwnhill at the outside almost at the wall and then the banking turns into a ramp to help e, go faster, but it also causes aero drag in single car runs.

yes i am a nascar freak. ;)

I don't know anything about NASCAR ore Daytona. I can't seem to find information on how to drive these ovals.

What's the challenge involved in driving the oval?

I know other circuits that the challenge is braking points and hitting the apex etc.

I am not much of a NASCAR fan but I am a motor sport fan so I respect all types of racing. The real challenge in oval racing is trying to constantly mark good lap times, sure its easy driving in a circle, but to extract as much speed out of each lap over and over again, plus when you are racing other cars, they are all trying to do the same thing, trying to get the best line that they can while preventing you from doing the same, thats the real challenge. Its really just drag racing with turns on both ends!

I probably crash more on Daytona than any other track...

The challenge is trying to carry the maximum possible speed through the turn without running wide and scraping the wall, when done successfully you should be literally centimetres from the wall, thats what I have gathered from watching a bit of NASCAR anyway. F1 is more my thing...

Yeah getting round turns 3 & 4 fast enough without sliding up into the wall.

You only need to be a little off with your speed or line and it's slap the wall and here have a 4sec penalty for your troubles.

I pretty much can Master Daytona within 15 to be only one second behind the world leader ... but other courses are bigger challenges,,, after 15 minutes, im always 5 seconds behind..
