hi all,
this is my first post and i have to say i love the game.
i have a problem, driving on dirt.
just don`t know what i`m doing wrong.
i`m using the toyota rcs rally car, which i mean shoud be fine for the dirt...
the actual problem is the spinning, i just can`t contol the car approaching the corners and coming out of them.
i think there is something to do with the fatc that it`s a very powerful car, and that the gear ration is too low, so when i come out of the corners the accelation is too much and i end up on the out of the trak, so i decided to increase the gear ration which actually made some difference but still having problems...

what would you suggest to do?
any settings? special techniques, tips?

thanks in advance...

I think a closer gear ratio is actually better for rally racing, which is why all the rally cars have them close like that. I'm not enough of a genius to explain why though. I've been using the RSC as well with some fair but sloppy success.

I think the key to it (or one of them) is throttle control. You have very poor traction in dirt, so when you stomp the gas coming out of a turn your tires may spin a good while before actually moving the car. Therefore try gently easing into the gas to give the tires time to catch. This is kind of tricky getting used to with an analog controller, but with practice you'll get it. Gentle on the buttons ;)

Aside from that, all i can say is practice :indiff: steering & countersteering skills are definitely put to the test in dirt.

Try to start with something a bit less powerful. Work your way up to the RSC after you have played around with some of the lower power vehicles. I personally learned a bunch by taking a stock Mitsubishi 3000GT SL out on the dirt and ice tracks. Before, I was just overpowering the competition and getting 1 or 2 ASpec points per race. By driving in the snow and dirt in a heavy, lower-powered 4WD vehicle, I actually learned how to control the car and ended up being able to control the more powerful vehicles later on. 👍

If you are really into using the rally cars instead of stock road vehicles, at least drop the power a bit by using one of the Ford rally cars or something a bit less extreme than the RSC rally vehicle.

If you have cash money, buy the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Super Rally Car (gasping for air).

It really IS super. It makes even ME look like a hero on dirt and ice.

im assuming it might be a problem with ur technique as well. as ur approaching the turn, lean off the throttle and steer, do NOT step on the throttle in middle of a turn, also steer in gradually. if u steer too suddenly, ull spin out.

After practicing and learning all of the techniques, try to tap the handbrake and full throttle with some opposite lock in slow corners.

eiopago -- Are you understeering, or spinning out? Both can be remedied with better throttle control and a better line, but no matter what, you'll still be left with one simple fact -- GT4's dirt/snow physics are really bad compared to the rest of the game. Why do you think courses like the Swiss Alps are so freakin' huge? You need room to try and convince your car to turn.

Sorry, but you're better off with something like Colin McRae for your gravel needs -- something that concentrates on rally. :indiff:

However, if you're trying to do the Special Conditions hall, good luck, and a bit of advice if you don't mind cheating -- if the rear end of your car hits the wall, you don't get the penalty. ;) 👍

My best tip to this issue is to drive slower to be faster! Brake really early, and be very gentle with the throttle and stearing inputs. Also try using a WRC car, like an Impreza or the Pug 206. The Focus is also a good rallycar to try out. In the case of rallying in GT4, less is usually more!

its about the car... and in wich part of the corner you start to turn.....
if your turn earlier with a 4wd car... you will turn better
depends of the turn...
but i can make a very simple schematic...
i sugest you use the recomended gear since you understand the car
this is going to the top of rpm in each gear...

1st gear.. 20 to 30 meters earlier..
2nd gear.. 40 to 50 meters
3rd gear.. 60 to 70 meters
4rd gear.. 80 to 100 meters

this is what i use with my evo...
the tranny is in auto 12...
and the car is 4wd...

in the snow tracks is very different...
i havnt got any tips for that kind of track..
but for dirt... that is my opinion...

You drive manual or automatic? Automatic might change gears in the middle of the corner and cause you to spin/lose traction.

You need a super close gear box and the secret is to brake early and point the car into the direction you want it to go. You also have to aim for the apex on turns (just like on a regular road) and this gives you the best line even though you are sliding. That's what i have learned from playing gt across the years.

go with the subaru impreza rally car * looks blue with green writing on the side* put dirt tires on it and your off well for me anyway i found this a breeze to control and i can fly through swiss alps :) but i suggest you try this car

Whenever I'm going through a turn, I always think to myself "get the nose in." Probably picked it up from some Top Gear scene. But it helps me remember one of the most important things in drifting is that you have to AIM the car where you WANT it to go.
