How to find friends online?

How do you know if any of your friends are racing online? Is that little "dot" next to their name in under "Community" indicative of them currently playing the game or currently racing online?
And once you know who is online, how do you find out what room they are in so you can join their track and race with them?
Under the "Open Lobby", the only filters I see are "Track", "Skid Recovery", and "Region". What an odd choice of filters.
Anyway, if anyone can help me figure this out I would appreciate it.
 
If you click their name in the community tab, the go to the tea cup icon, if there is a orange icon next to it that means they are in a lobby. Then just click it to join.
 
I found that the orange icon is only there if they are in a lobby they made themselves. I wonder if that icon is still there if they joined an open lobby
 
How does the online sharing of cars and drivers work?

I've put my Jag XJ13 online to share and a driver but have no idea what it means!

Do other people get to driver my car using my bob and i get some xp in return for my bob and a share of the winnings?
 
I doubt that it would be there in an open lobby as that is a different area of the game.

We really need options to Invite and Join our friends in both public and private races.
