I am fairly new here and have a question about online racing. My son and I would like to race online and with GTP members. Is it required that we join the Playstation Network first then find the GTP races?
I have never raced online or even thought about it before, however GT5 is a great game and racing others online seems like a natural progression.
Keep in mind when you answer I am a middle aged single dad, so speak slowly and clearly!

You have come to the right place jjbmoto. 👍

You are also right, you will have to register an account with the PSN (when it returns).

I would also recommend setting up your own online race room to get used to all the different setup options that online racing offers.
Also, the cars handle a little differently online so getting used to that takes a little bit of practice.

Once you are happy with that then just come back to the GT5 online forum and find a group, race or series that interests you.
Check out their rules, the GTP online racing rules (stickied at the top of the forum) and post a message to say you want to race.
Then just turn up on race day and race.

There are also some some groups which are designed for, shall we say, 'experienced in life' drivers with less time to hone their GT5 skills, and so drive a little slower than most of the guys online. Have a search in the group section for them.

Happy racing and welcome to GTP! 👍

I don't know how old your son is, but sometimes the language can be, shall we say, colourful, online. Not too often, sometimes rooms don't even have mics active, but it does happen, although it's nothing like Call of Duty..lol. Now you can't deactivate all mics in an online lobby, but you can deactivate individual people, but of course, you only do that after you hear them swearing or playing crappy music etc. If you buy a bluetooth headset you can turn it on, then all the conversation will go to the bluetooth and not the tv, then set it aside and that's a convenient way of shutting everyone off.

When racing online make sure you read the title of the room and read the room restrictions when you put the cursor over the room title when scrolling through the online lobby list. Look for a room that suits what you want to do. No point in entering a 650 pp street car room for example when you want to race Volkswagen Beetles or Miata's.

Thank-you all for your replies. Hopefully the language is not to bad.
I will post how we did once (if) the Network comes back online!

Add me and we can race.My room is usually pretty clean in the language department, most of the time.If people want to act like an ass,I boot them.

Well, I hope you and your son enjoy online racing. I'll see you two on the track... That is if PSN ever comes back online.
