How to make a YouTube Video?

How do I turn my replays into YouTube videos? I'm sorry if this is a basic question. I'm not a gamer. I see so many people with gorgeous 1080p videos of their replays on YouTube and I'd love to be able to do the same.

What is needed to do this? If someone could provide me with step-by-step instructions I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

You'd need a capture card (eg: one of these) to record the replay on your computer I believe, then you can upload it to YouTube. I'm not entirely sure how they work but this is what people use to record on consoles.
Sadly there's no way to upload videos straight from in game.

Ahhh okay. So a video capture device is needed. Gotcha. I thought maybe there was some way to just tell the PS3 to keep replay video available from the main PS3 menu (is that called XMB?) and then maybe you could copy onto a USB stick from the PS3 and bring to your computer for editing and uploading to YouTube. I'm a complete n00b with gaming and stuff like this...but I'm learning! :)

I use an Elgato game capture device. I start the replay while opening the program, then restart the replay while hitting play on the "Record" button. View link in my signature to see how I do it.

Yeah it's a shame there isn't a feature like that, if I remember correctly GT5 was supposed to have a feature where you could upload videos straight to YouTube but it never happened. There's always GT7...

Would love to get a capture card myself but my PC and my PS3 are nowhere near each other haha.

Very nice! Is there anything else that I would need? Cables? Anything? I did a quick google and I saw something mentioned about HDCP with the PS3 and not being able to use HDMI cables?! How else does one capture 1080p footage? I haven't read the articles/blog posts yet. I also saw something mentioning an HDMI "splitter", but I'm not sure what that's all about yet. I'll read that stuff later tonight.

Thanks...You're videos are great! Suzuka is a tough, tough track. Definitely separates the men from the boys. Unfortunately, my times put me in the "boys" camp. LOL!

I do wonder if I should just wait for GT7 and when I finally purchase a PS4. It would be a shame to buy this equipment if it's unnecessary or incompatible with the PS4.

My desktop machines are nowhere near my PS3 either. Luckily, I have a fairly powerful laptop that I would be using for the video capture from my PS3, if I decide to make this investment.

True, I literally just tried to look for PS3/4 compatible capture cards and it seems the PS4 will not work with a capture card, though it does have the share video function. Maybe there's a cheap one that could be worth investing in for PS3?

And that's lucky... I'd have to rearrange half my room to be able to use one!

I use the Avermedia Live Gamer Portable for recording. You get all the cables in the box to get started. You can record to an sd card and transfer that to pc and upload where you want.

At E3 was announced that the ps4 will soon be possible to upload to youtube. Also Sony updated the ps4 to disable HDCP so you can record via HDMI. So you can use the device but like you said the ps4 has the share button.

When I booted up my Elgato program yesterday it prompted me to update. The update was indeed for PS4, so when I upgrade to GT7 I'll be all set to record from day 1.

Ahh, that's good to know. I checked out the Elgato quickly. It seems to be all I would need, at a fair price. I'll definitely consider that device.

There are other similar devices on the market which may be just as good, but I have the Elgato too and love it. I'm no geek :dopey: but found it pretty easy to set up.

You cannot use the HDMI port but the Elgato comes with a cable to connect from the other port (forget the name, composite?) to the device which means you can still record in HD 1080, even though its not quite as good as HDMI. But really, if you are posting to Youtube you will notice no major difference as Youtube downgrades the video upload a bit anyway. All the GT6 vids on my channel in my signature link have been made this way.

The Elgato has an "out" HDMI port and an out port to your PC, so you can stream HD video to your HD TV at the same time as recording in HD on your PC. The recording on your PC takes up a fair amount of resources so you probably don't want too many other programmes running in background, but it runs fine on my 2 year old laptop as an example.

You have to go to the settings and tell the PS3 to output via the composite rather than the HDMI but all the (very simple) instructions are provided by Elgato on their website. I think other devices would need similar settings.

The only downsides of getting something like this, is finding the time to make all the videos since there are a million possibilities that open up for you 💡, and the fact you end up with even more cables around your TV than you probably have already .

Good luck! And if you do decide to take the plunge, I look forward to seeing the videos you produce - send me a pm when you are up and running if you like or I'll look for you posts on this forum :) :gtpflag:

Another brand you could look into is BlackMagic Design and their Intensity line of products. I have been using an Intensity Pro for years now, it's a great and impressively small in size performer especially considering that's it's getting old now.

If you're planning on buying a PS4 and wish to record gameplay, there's no need to bother with a capture device, it already has the ability to capture in game footage on it's own and can upload the footage to the internet. I believe support for directly uploading to Youtube is coming to the PS4 soon as well, so save yourself some money.

You can play gt6 on PS4?

Maybe at some point via the Playstation Now service, but I don't know if that will let you use the PS4's share feature or not. At the moment though, no you cannot, I was just replying to another post you made above where you mentioned about eventually buying a PS4 and GT7. It depends how long you're going to wait and how many videos of GT6 you intend to capture and upload really on whether it's worth getting a capture card for your PS3 or saving yourself some money.

I got the Hauppauge HD PVR2 gaming or whatever.
Connections:
HDMI out to monitor or tv
HDMI in for xbox ( or the ps4??)
Connection for Composite cable for the ps3
USB connection to your pc, used a 5mtr usb extension cable before, and worked. Now
i got a 2nd monitr on my pc and switch to hdmi to play ps3, 1st monitor i see what i record.

recording:
720p and 1080p even with the composite cable.
Older software Arcsoft Showbiz, .ts .mp4 and .m2ts, i prefer .mp4.
Newer software Hauppauge Capture, only records in .ts, can record an extra microphone for commenting while recording/gaming. And afterwards export .ts to mp4. And has a streaming option.
I had issues with that last program, sound/video was often out of sync.

There is not really a good video editor with this device.
Arcsoft van add text and some other stuff, but not professional., edited video, not really export to mp4, mostly .mov(apple quicktime)
Hauppauge Capture, only provides cutting and exporting.

But to begin with, it was alright for me.
Within a few weeks the device was broke, got a brand new one from hauppauge with new firmware and newer software
and that one still works ( about a year or longer now)

It is not the best device, also you need a proper video editing program, te get professional..
Sony vegas is popular.
Adobe premiere is used by some.
Cyberlink director

I only cut stuff, with a freeware program.
There are much better cards/devices, but for me, to begin with, it does the trick.

For my Youtube videos I use: My game capture device: AVermedia Game Capture HD; My editing software is the camtasia studio 8, i upload my videos on .mp4

Here's a kind of kludgy way I did it:

1) Plug PS3 composite cables, the ones that came with it, into Sony VRD-MC6 DVR
2) Switch Display from HDMI to Composite (does anyone know how to run two screens at once - HDMI & other?)
3) Go through GT6 menus on DVR 2" mini screen, go to Library/Video/Play (ugh), record direct to DVD. Best to do several on one DVD. That will be a 640x480 letterboxed image.
4) Reset display back to HDMI
4) Take DVD to laptop, run Handbrake and convert to cropped *.mp4 file. Result is 640 x 360.
5) Edit mp4 file with Quicktime Pro - snip, adjust colors, etc. Break up large file into several separate *.mov files
6) Upload file(s) to Youtube.
