So i just got the driving force GT. Ive been playin gwith it for an hour or so and it really improved my racing times ( was surprised I got the hang of it so quickly. )

Problem is I dont know how to turn it off. I just disconnected it from the electricity for now, but its weird it doesnt explain this in the small manual that came with it. Shouldnt there be a small button to turn it off before disconnecting it from the electricity?

also another two questions I have that are less important to be answered:
a: going back : theres no button? I cant shift to it through the gears... only triangle? isnt that weird??

b: after turns, if im losing control its game over for me. I can never realign my car. In real life, if Ive turned my steering wheel to the end, I just leave it and it goes right back to were it was ... on this it just moves right and left in a weird way .... I hate this because I now need to have perfect laps... one mess up and its pretty much over for me coz the way you realign your car, counter-steer ect is just too difficult

You just have to pull the plug out to turn it off. There's no way of turning it off inside the PS3 or on the wheel itself. Get used to this.

Reassign your buttons so that your reverse is on the gear stick (I use down for reverse and up for handbrake) you can find this in the options menu under the Driving Force GT (this wheel has the most buttons to reassign).

This is the force feedback. If you change this in the Wheel part of the Options menu, not under your specific wheel, you can set this between 1 and 10 where 1 is the least amount of feedback. It doesn't solve this problem, but makes getting used to it easier. What you need to do is not countersteer so much, when the wheel wants to move by itself you have to move it yourself to where you want to go. It's not like real life, I know, but you have to learn its quirks.

Really, an hour is not enough to "get the hang of it". It will take you a few weeks to really understand how it works, and how to correct things when you feel the car losing control or when it goes into a spin. And pretty soon you will not need to use Reverse at all. But walk before you run etc. Take it easy and practice. Many people have issuses with it straight off. But give it longer than an hour.

You only plug it in to power the Force Feedback, it's not actually powering the wheel as a whole. You could not plug it in and still use the wheel, you'd just get no FFB. That's why there is nothing to turn off.

I wondered why it still worked whilst not plugged in.

Thanks ... very helpful comment. Ya I know an hour isnt enough, but from what I read before, I thought id have to practice for hours before winning races or getting lap times comparable to mine on the controller. Now I am already getting better lap times. Theres a lot of room for improvement and I really need to get used to many things but the mere fact that it makes controlling your acceleration and braking easier is just enough to make me better than my controller ( which isnt saying much coz im not that good :P) ...

BTW to people still thinking about whether or not its worth it... definitely worth it... go get yours now :P

Grats on your wheel. I have a DFGT too and I just pug it into the usb port and unplug when done racing. Probably took me at least a month or longer to feel like I was driving faster than with a controller.

Did you mean "You could plug", or "You could not plug"?

I know on my wheel it has to be plugged into power or nothing will work.

To the OP, I usually keep my power plugged in, when I want to disconnect I just unplug the USB.

If you don't plug the power cord to the wheel and turn on your PS3/PC with it connected to the USB, it will work apart from wheel turn. Buttons, pedals, shifter will work. If you unplug it after connecting it and letting it calibrate you will lose FF only. Other than that, wheel would still work.

I remember in one of the shops I were before i had PS3 and GT5 i came there to try GT5:P at the time. Kids playing there would unplug the power cable back from the wheel, cause they couldn't handle the Force Feedback, they preferred it without FF. It was working fine.
