How well do cars tune?

tuning is a substantial part of GT but so far it hasnt really been talked about, with more talk going to what cars are in rather then what can be done with them.

in GT1 the top spec cars were in the 800-900 bhp range with a few above
in GT2 the cars took a knock and were down to the 700 bhp region
in GT3 engines slapping 1000bhp arent uncommon

so what of GT4? do skylines still pull out the magic marker, does the massive vantage still produce grunt that a oil tanker wouldnt be ashamed of?

if anyones in the mood of producing a table of car stats fully tuned then that wouldnt go too far amiss either.

cheers.

I too would be interested to hear peoples experiences with the tuning in GT4, particularly talk of how PD have worked with Turbo lag this time around, something that in my opinion was actually superior in GT2 than it was in GT3...

Working with highly tuned engines on a daily basis, I know first hand that a 800 bhp Skyline does NOT pull well below 4500-5500 RPM, unless aided by laughing gas. I just hope PD have put a little more into it this time.

i never gi bellow 5500 rpm :D but how about putting turbo and supercharger (like in real life) i saw this opel manta on the internet and it had both..so turbo lag is solved..but thats still uncommon..or how about 2 egines seen that to...

One thing I've noticed is more tuning options such as adding weight and moving the added weight to the front or rear. Also transmissionis more realistic, it used to be if you put the FC tranny on a car, it would become a 6 speed, no more put a FC on a 5 speed car, and you get a 5 speed FC tranny.

Can't remember whether it was stated in an interview or was merely a rumour, but I remember hearing that GT4 might feature twice as many possible upgrades/tuning options. Judging by the little information in this area I imagine this isn't the case, with the only new upgrades I've heard of has been the chassis refresh/roll cage, spoilers & of course nitrious oxide.

so not much info yet then, iam just damn curios as to how much grunt we can slap into the cars this time round.

[wishing esprit can still top 1000bhp]

so is there anyway to put a 6 speed box in a 5 speed this time around?

when upgrading exhaust does the mufflers change at all ... get bigger ... or sound different in the game?

If so this would make me a happy man...

I heard that the mufflers changed the pitch of the engine in GT3, although I never really noticed... I heard that GT4 was the same, if not more realistic.

it would be excellent to hear all of your upgrades, some exaust grunt(or scream), a nice little whirrr from your supercharger, and some wastegate sounds from your turbo. :)

In Gran Turismo 2 the sound of the car already changed when putting in another muffler, so count on it that it does in GT4.

I've scrolled through the screens of menu images on this site and I was kinda disappointed seeing the tuning options. No more racing modification either which I loved in GT1 and GT2..... always a surprise what your street car would look like with racing mods.

As far as I have seen with full race gearboxes a 4 (or less) speed car will most likely get a 5 speed racing box. 5 speed cars generally get a 6 speed box. I have not seen any 5 speed cars getting a 5 speed racing box.

I have not tried putting a race box on any of the CVT or true Automatic cars to see how many speeds they get. I have a fully tuned Lancer EVO VII GT-A (as far as I am aware that is the only true Automatic in the game). It manages I think 514 HP and I did use Nitrous. On the 'Ring the stock auto-box was good for at least 330 km/h so I didn't bother to swap it for a manual. If the car is like it was in Prologue you will not be able to change gears manually with it. I was a little taken aback to discover that you can fully tune the Honda Dualnote. There seems no indication of its hybrid nature (unlike the Prius which seems to be the only hybrid that takes into account the electric assistance). Fully tuned, a late model Prius puts out about 140+ HP I think.

I admittedly have not tuned every car in the game. I think the most powerful "normal" car would be the TVR Cerbera Speed 12 which fully tuned gives over 1100 HP.

From what I've been told ad seen when you put in a racing gearbox the number of gears stays the same, maybe wrong but I've used a fully tuned Lance Evo 5 and it still had 5 gears.

As for the Exhaust changing siz, it doesn't only thesounds of the engine changes.

there are limits to everything.. i mean then they'd need to have a aquamist to cool down intercooler charge.. then change your intercooler for top mount, have your hood scoop make a difference in air charge, then they would have to allow a b18c-r swaps in cvicis, crx, 911 turbo swap in a touareg, have methanol injection, water to air intercooler, light weight wheels,

thats jsut going too far i think.. i they they have a decent amount of modifications.. caus i mean.. it would enver stop, theres a million and one mods..¸they're gonna start putting knock sensors and msd kits in the game :scared:

Pagani can still top 1100hp, but the Supras and Skies only top 800.

Good, that suits me. The RB26DETT and the 2JZ-GTE both tend to break things with "fair" frequency when over that kind of power, regardless of the rubbish you can read on the web and in poorly informed tuning magazines. If nothing else, then those engines will need to be rebuilt every 10,000 miles or so as the main bearings will be like tinfoil! Although rather more so in the RB26 than the 2JZ, as the RB does have very small diameter and width main bearings - hence however it revs happily.

Gran Turismo is about track racing, primarily, therefor a place where an 800 hp Skyline or Supra has very limited uses, much better to have a decently setup 500-550hp car, easier and more consistent to drive... :)

Good power from that Honda, although I notice the power runs were performed on a rather laughable Twin-Roller Mustang Dynamometer, I'd like to see what figures that car would make on a decent hub-based dyno (ie. A Dynapack)...

Sounds like it means business though!
