How will PD update standard cars to premium?

I prefer to just wait and see rather than speculate. If we get more premium cars, great! If we don't, oh well! I'm STILL finding different cars to tune and tweak instead of spending 5min with one and throw it out the proverbial window.

I bought the game as it is and highly enjoy it. Anything else is a bonus. Some people get too caught up with the "gimme, gimme" attitude in this internet age. Some games will be busted or have problems, but instead of constricting yourself to the "what could be," bask in the glorious fact that there will be updates and PD is too good of a company to let this beta test go to waste.

(Seriously, you think PD has nothing else up their sleeves?)

Their main problem is that the always take AGES to do something, and we, true fans, we all need to stop trying to justify them. Standard cars in 2011 it's a joke. "Bonus" statement for them is a joke... Come on people I know there are tons of trolls who only post BS in the forum, and this is a problem, but we need to say PD, seriously, I'm a a big fan of you but WTF with standard cars...

When I see those amazing Group C race cars.. standard
and the Toyota Prius... premium... well.... :irked: you know

they will keep the standard and just add the premium counter part like the civic and camaro

cars he said they made premium later in the game development

why give someone a crappy standard Enzo when you have a premium Enzo model? obviously, because PD think it's cool to have both. Or something.
If this is eventually true they have a very strange psychopatic idea of what is cool and what is not. And looking at the car list my doubts remains. A premium model and the same model in standard version. Simply hate.

Their idea of what is cool and what isn't is very strange, in my opinion. Samba Bus, Schwimmwagen, Kübelwagen, Prius, double Swift, double Cappuchino, CR-Z...

thats the stupidest way they could do it. if anything theyll just update all standards with better models and class them prem.

There are standards from previous GT games in the UCD also have premium versions available for purchase. Examples that come to mind include the C5 Corvette Z06, Elise 111R, Esprit V8, 1.8L Silvia Ks, Silvia Spec-R Aero, R32-R34 GT-Rs, 350Z, S2000, EK9 Civic Type R, TVR Tuscan & Tamora, Amuse S2000 GT-1, Mine's GT-R, both Cappucino models, Ford GT and previous gen Mustang GT.

PD made premiums of these cars, but did not remove the standard versions. It stands to reason that while introducing new premiums, they would continue to do the same.

You're wrong.
He's not entirely wrong:
1989 Nissan 300ZX
Mazda Miata J-Limited
Mazda RX-7 GT-X
Mazda RX-7 Type R

This is ignoring cars that are technically from different years but are completely identical otherwise (or, in some cases, should be, but PD got the specs incorrect on either the Standard or Premium model; and in the case of the BMW M5, both):
Aston Martin DB9
Silvia S13 K's
Silvia S15 Spec R Aero
Skyline GT-R V-Spec R33
Dodge Viper GTS
Mustang GT
Ford GT
Lancer Evolution VI T.M.E.
BMW M5
Mercedes SLR McLaren
Honda Civic Type R EK

That being said:

Only five of those are actually examples. For the other ones, the duplicates either were removed or the Standard and Premium model are substantially different (Corvette Z06, S2000, 350Z, S2000 GT-1, Mine's GT-R, the R32 and R34 Skylines).

At best, they'll stop it from coming up in the UCD. And I still doubt the'll walk the extra mile to get that done.

They may stop them coming up in used cars ( probably the simplist method in the long term ) but I imagine the standard you already own will stay standard. I thought there were identical standards and premiums but they all seem to be a slightly different models.
I find it funny however that just because a car is premium it is bought as new from the dealer. I can guarantee you if you go down to your local Mazda dealership you wont find a 1990 RX-7 sitting in the showroom, or even available on order. Suppose it was just to avoid confusion among the masses.

To be honest I would rather all standards were updated to be able to have wheels changed/painted and a selection of bodykits then to go the whole hog and only make a handful of premiums. Don't get me wrong I love premiums but when there is only so much time/money to be dedicated to a game you need it to be spent wisely.

they should just add more cars in premium. forget all the existing standards. I still want my E36!!!!

Your damn right, who really want a Sambabus in a videogame? What's there for? Ultra slow motion racing?Come on, Sambabus is cool in real life you can play the guitar with the hippy flowers and things like that :D
but in a game? And the omg wtf Toyota Prius? All these weird cars are a joke, a sick sad joke...
Weirdphony Digital

But there still is no instance of two cars (S/P) having the same exact name and codes. That is what I was really getting at.
It's just because PD seriously makes multiple versions of some cars for their different localizations (example the AU and J versions), even if they are the same car without any regional changes, which is something I always felt was a complete waste of development time.

I agree, it's just a numbers game. We're tired of the same old cars that we've been getting since the start of the series. Please PD, no conversions, simply add some new models.

I think PD will update cars from GT PSP (Audi R8 LMS, Veyron etc) and cars based on premium models (standard R34 Skylines for instance).

I've seen Premium listed cars in the UCD. I've seen a Ford GT and the newer Lotus Elises in there. I haven't bought them so they might be Standard versions.

I just want the Veyron to become a Premium, maybe the Caterham and Mugen Civic but thats it really.

You're talking about PD, remember? We already have cases where there are both standard and premium versions of a car.

If a car is updated, the standard one won't be touched. It will stay the very same, both in your garage and in the UCD. Only difference: You'll be able to purchase a premium one from the dealership at zero miles.

You don't think anyone would get they Toyota GT One upgraded and delivered to their garage for free, do you? :sly:
You'll have to earn the credits and buy it like any other premium car in the game, whether you have the standard version already or not. As far as coding and implementing those updates go, that should be the easiest way by far.

And I'm fairly certain that that's the route PD will take.

great... what did i trade all those standard race cars for then? :banghead:

I gotta defend the CR-Z on this one.. its a pretty fun little car if you like the driving style of maintaining momentum! Now the Insight? thats a joke.. and this is coming from a Honda fan.. the S2000 '06 is a joke too.. they couldve AT LEAST gotten their hands on the CR!

I gotta totaly disagree here. To me little subtle differences between even the same make and model are important. Regional and spec differences add an elemant of suprise and mystery once a model has gone past production and people forget what came with what or simply didnt know.

Granted since not all the cars in the game are premium, I would rather get all premium models a priority, but being able to archive and recreate little details that were different amongts models IMO is very important.

Some the changes are small like different steering wheel, trim etc, but some are quite drastic.
I dont know how it is with american cars, but I would find it incredibly inacurate and full if every model had just one variant in gt5 to represent it.

Well... You'll have to enjoy them for what they are... Granted, I don't enjoy standards, but if you got them in hopes of them turning to standards..
Well, I personally think that that's pretty futile.

Yeah, should've used the Prius or the Insight as examples
My personal problem with the CR-Z (or any other hybrid, for that matter) is that you're running our of battery power sooner or later and you're pretty much shafted when that happens.
As far as I am concerned, there are two (well, depending on how you count them, three) hybrids that I know of that belong on the race track, in my opinion.
And since all of them come from Zuffenhausen, we're not going to see them in Gran Turismo any time soon

Hopefully the Veyron will be converted to premium. I really don't get why its a standard car in game.

i'm pretty sure those standard cars from the UCD are here to stay. I'm guessing what they refer to as upgrading to premium is adding the same equivalent cars from UCD as premium to the Dealerships. The 2 same cars (standard & premium) will co-exist with each other.

So you really need two of one car with the exact same weight, bhp, and torque? Remember, GT does not simulate real time aerodynamics, so a slight bumper difference would make no difference in the game.

BTW, if it is the same make and model, its the same car

There's at least one car listed as P/S on the official car list which does appear as both a premium model in the new car dealership and a standard car in the used car dealership - the 1990 Toyota Supra 2.5GT Twin Turbo R.
I've already pointed out the only examples where there are duplicate Standards and Premiums. The Supra 2.5GT isn't one of them, not the least because there isn't a Premium version of it at all.

They still aren't quite the same, although in the case of the GT it's pretty much the year, so minor differences if at all I guess

I'd also understood there were a handful of dupes between the Premium dealership and UCD, but I was going by the "official" list here which isn't 100% accurate anyway (for example what evidence of the 2010 award winning specials that are supposedly DLC? When was that ever confirmed?)

I think you've misundertsood the message I was trying to get accross

Again, I'm not sure what American cars are to be around and purchase, but japanese cars have huge variations, yes amongst the same model!

The japanese love giving cars seperate characters/classes and special editions, thus you have broad spectrum of offerings accorss the same model.

They come in a variety of different engines (whether its a totaly different engine base, or variations of the same base), trim, suspension, colours, features and weight, bodywork, etc. And yes I do mean just the same make and model

For example a plain old 2000 accord euro came with like 6-7 different engines alone.
The mazda miata must have about 15 different models as well.

Not that I care about the miata, I dont even like it and im guessing most dont, but to someone thats really into them, I'm sure they would appreciate all the differences being taken into account.

What if there was an American car you liked with tons of variants, would you like it if the Japanese said argh, all corvettes are basically all the same, just have one for the whole game.

Maybe thats what they have done in gt5, I havent checked, but wouldnt it be nice for the car you're into to have all the variations appreciated?

Especially many of the older japanese cars, even the well known ones have heaps of variants.

I mean the humble old R32 to R34 Nissan skyline is probably a model which has remained suprisngly the same throughout the years, yet even so there were over 20 variants of it as well in uder 10 years.

Almost anyone in australia will know this off by heart, simply because we are exposed to such a large number of japanese imports (Aus and japan are one of the fewer right hand drive countries in the world), but I'd guess Americans just know it as one, the skyline from fast and the furious movies? You guys think of them as rice burners or "JDM" or "imports" etc, that mentality doesn't exists here.
We just know them as common everyday sports cars.

If youre american, be honest and tell me how many of you guys know for example the skyline model from Fast and furious also came in a 4 door sedan? How about an actual wagon? They did both!

Recently even the japanese are keeping the variants accross models pretty tight, but I hope you get my point about the older ones.

That said, I dont mean its good that they have tons of standard cars with monor HP and weight differnces, My argument is imagine a world where all gt5 cars were premium...

This would only be applicable if PD had actually spent time recreating those subtle differences. For the majority of the duplicates, PD not only didn't do that, but they also ignored blatant differences that make certain variations of cars completely different from one another.

Not that I care about the miata, I dont even like it and im guessing most dont, but to someone thats really into them, I'm sure they would appreciate all the differences being taken into account.
To someone that is really into Miatas, I'm guessing what PD did with them would make them even angrier than someone apathetic towards them. Simply because they know what the differences are in real life, and they know that PD didn't bother implementing them.

What if there was an American car you liked with tons of variants, would you like it if the Japanese said argh, all corvettes are basically all the same, just have one for the whole game.
If PD made it so all of the cars were functionally identical, even though in real life they were quite different? I would absolutely agree with that criticism. For some of the cars, PD basically did the equivalent of having a base Corvette, Z06 Corvette and a ZR1 Corvette, all with the same specifications as the base model.

Maybe thats what they have done in gt5, I havent checked, but wouldnt it be nice for the car you're into to have all the variations appreciated?
I don't consider doing nothing but renaming a car in three different ways actually being a variation.
