ok DUKE i actually tried to search this one so dont yell at me if it is already somewhere!!! i bought the hpa motorsport expecting fairly good results. but then when i took it on the test course i found that the initial acceleration is horible!!! but then it starts to accelerate quickly. i need to know how to make it acclerate quicker at the beginning!!

It's probably the turbo. It needs to to mid-high rpm range to spool up.

I have never driven the car myself, it's just my guess.

I would say, get the racing transmission, and adjust the 1st, 2nd, and maybe 3rd gears so that the number is higher. This should give better acceleration, although I'm not 100% familiar with the gear tuning stuff.

Yeah, sounds like the gearing needs a bit of tweaking. If you manage to get it right you can get it really quick from a standing start and faster down a straight. I also think it's great to have two different kinds of gearing setup's - one for circuits that bend alot like Autumn Ring, one for faster courses like Highspeed Ring, and perhaps one in between.

Nope, you're not wrong. There is lag from the turbo - that's whats causing the problem. If you tune the gearing to be shorter so it's always in its powerband, the lag will more than likely go away.

Yeah you need to tune the gearing so that it matches the powerband to the track your racing on. That will minimise the lag as long as you drive within the powerband. But the HPA has a pretty big turbo so there will always be lag.

So I suppose I was wrong about the turbo.
Not at all. The turbo lag makes the car almost noncompetitive. It's the perfect example of building an engine for a high peak HP number while totally ignoring the area under the power curve. Everbody sees 500+ hp for under 40kc and gets all excited. But then you drive the car and you realize that if you let it fall off boost at all, the AI leave you for dead. Plus you understeer directly off the outside of the turn when the boost kicks in mid-corner.

Why didn't you add this to your own bang-for-the-buck thread, where you were already discussing the HPA Golf?

Ya i agree with the posts from above about changing gear ratios. If u really want to experience wat turbo lag is, i recomend driving the Option Stream 350Z. You will be disapointed.:)

i tried to change the first gear ratio on the car because that is the only slow gear and i put it to the max on auto setting 25 and it got way better.... the only problem is that the turbo lag is still enormous. did any one with a Hpa out there fix that problem and if so could you give me all of the gear ratios that you have!! that would be great!

I suggest not using the auto setting for this. Try changing only the gears with lag to a higher number, that way the higher gears do not change. I would actually adjust auto to a number to match the track, and then adjust the low gears to a higher number and the lag should go away.

I don't have any specific gear ratios to go by but my guess is that putting it on auto all the way up to 25 might improve some performance but not as much as you want to on the 1:st to 3:rd gear.
As said by previous poster, try only changing the default gear's for a better result.

I'll see if I got the time to buy it and tweak it a bit...
