Holden Special Vehicles confirms launch of E Series 2
03.07.2009

- Major multi-million upgrade to HSV range

- A number of Australian auto technology production ‘firsts’

- Major improvements in fuel economy

- Unveil before Bathurst

HSV confirmed today the highly successful E Series range will be given a major upgrade with new features, driver enhancements and visual changes for introduction later in 2009.

According to Managing Director Phil Harding, the multi-million dollar program includes major visual differentiation and introduces at least five firsts for Australian production cars – a huge shot in the arm for the local industry.

“We know our customers want the latest technologies, as well as distinctive luxury and performance features in their HSV,” he said.

“Our customers will be delighted with the delivery of improved economy, more power, some truly exciting driver enhancements and distinctive design themes.”

HSV will start a staged preview campaign aimed at generating customer interest and demand in the new model. Dealers, frequent buyers and loyal customers will be supplied this information ahead of general release because of the importance of this new model to HSV.

The HSV Dealer network has been briefed on the changes, and they are actively speaking with past, present and future customers about the exciting new models.

“This represents a massive change for the successful E Series range and is the culmination of three years of research and development,” Phil Harding said.

More details will be released when E Series 2 is launched

Taken straight from HSV's website, I wonder what all these local "firsts" are, I hope they're things like carbon fibre panels, and other things that actually help performance........

And before anyone kicks a stink about money being spent on performance cars, I remind you HSV is technically a separate company to Holden and even GM (HSV is owned by Tom Walkinshaw), and since they're a performance brand only it's understandable.;)

No one? We discussed it deeply in The Holden Fan Club. I await proof that those pics are in fact the E2 Series though, they don't seem real to me, added to the odd performance increase predictions they have, like the Senator illegedly getting bigger brakes than the GTS.:odd:

Can I have one in silver or blue please?

It will all be officially unveiled by HSV next month. (Conveniently, the unveil is 09/09/09)

Oh it will be many pages back though, that group is too active so we'll have heaps of discussion between then and now.

Sorry but it looks absolutely overdone and ridiculous. My first thought is that it is a HSV purchased in a need for speed game with one of the generic overdone kits added to the front and back. Pretty sure I saw a similar rear bar in NFS underground infact.

The Front and rear bar don't suit the rest of the car. The front has some resemblance to a Mitsubishi EVO VIII and the new E class.

Sorry but its awful.

Hence my statement earlier, normally HSV are a lot smarter than that. Series 1 looks a lot better.

Looks like they're doing an FPV on us and connecting the dark areas of the front with grey plastic. Looks overdone in this example, although I said the same when the current FPV's were unveiled and now I am in awe of the design:

I looks part G6 and part Lancer Evo.

I wouldn't mind driving one if they managed there way over here.

Ooooohhhhh daddy wants one of those more!

Take the Camaro, or Viper or Corvette. We want to keep the Mustang though.

Seeing as how we're not getting it...I dunno, bit of a dissappointment for me. O~o

Loving my HSVs and everything, but I REALLY don't like the new front of this car. To the point where I'd buy the old one instead.

I think one of the biggest dissapointments with it is that it doesn't feature the split grill down the bottom which I was on the previous models and generations of HSVs.

The shape of the main grille looks like the Falcon (not the FPV) - especially the lower section.

To me - It looks too much like a ford. I always think as the FPVs are more pointy catfish like things and the HSVs a car metaphore for a bodybuilder's bicepts.

This looks more catfish than bicep and I don't like it.

I will not solidify my position until I see one in the flesh - but I am disapoint.

Front grill is still a mess. But I do actually like the driving lights.

Make or break is still the interior for me, the GTS will probably retail between 85k-100k, it needs a real interior, not a leather version of what is in the base model Commodore. The car sells itself as a cut-price euro alternative to the M3, S4 and the like, but the interior quality, fit and design has always been laughable in comparison.

I'm not excited because, well, we don't get Holdens here in the States, and whatever Holdens we did get were rebadged as Pontiacs. And those Pontiacs/Holdens were a flop here.

Well, they weren't exactly "flops," but the car (more specifically, the G8) was not placed into a market that was conducive to driving sales. Should the car have come out two years earlier (as it did in Australia), it would have done better. Probably.

But, we don't get to worry about Aussie cars for a while again here in the US. Unfortunately. Pontiac is dead, and all the likelihood of having a bunch of choices in RWD awesomeness comes to an end. Holden may give some guidance to the development of the Cadillac ATS (which could spin off a Barina. Maybe.)... But that's a stretch.

The Pontiac G8 GXP was arguably the best American car made available to the public in 2009 in any segment in the market. Its a damn shame it was only available for a year. A trip to Australia seems like a good idea for me...

GM was shopping the Commodore around as a Caprice, Grand National and as some kind of Cadillac. No sellers here in the US. A disappointment, sure, but that's business. We got the Camaro, and that's all that matters in terms of volume.

It seems like Sigma II will be the RWD platform of choice for GM. Spin out some variables now, keep costs down, and they'll be on the right track. Or, we're going to have to wait for whatever ends up replacing Zeta many years on down the road.

My eyes!

Radioactive rims?

At least in a year they will probably restyle the cars again.

Oh no, I'm sorry... that is not good.

Though I like how they still manage to make a unique wheel design which is not easy these days.

*waits for design to be copied buy some cheap wheel maker, then end up on every teenagers executive commodore*
