Recently, my laptop just shut off for no reason. It does not turn back on no matter what, regardless if it's plugged it with or without a battery. When the A/C adapter is in the computer, it makes a "clicking" noise from the brick portion of it, and the indicator light on the brick blinks. :scared: When it's not plugged into the laptop, all is fine. Is my lappy fried?

Thanks,

Tophat

Brick portion of the transformer you mean, right? or of any part of the laptop/batery?

When the shut off, it was with the plug only, with battery only, or with plug & battery?

The noise that it does is when you have the transformer plugged with the battery or the transformer plugged without the battery?

Do you have any friend with laptop too or something that could give you a similar AC/DC transformer in order to test your laptop with that one (without the battery)? Take a look at the specs. on your transformer and maybe you could take it to any electronic shop to test if it's just the AC/DC transformer or it's another thing. They will test it with a transformer from the shop for sure, I did that with an external sound card I have when I didn't knew if what was damaged were the capacitors into the transformer or the proper sound card.

It was both plug and the battery.

It does it either way.

I don't have a friend with a similar laptop unfortunately. I'm going to have to bring it to Best Buy. :ouch:

Could be a damaged transformer, end of life or something, and it culd has damaged the battery too (anyway... this is so strange..). Try to take it to an electrical shop asking for a simple test with a transformer with the same output volts and equal or higher Ampers.
