I have hardly seen any appreciation to the 2 Prius cars in the game nor the Insight...pictures? sounds? videos? performance?

And correct me if im wrong...but doesnt the prius have a CVT transmission? If so, is it in GT4 (if so, how does it drive/handle, if not, what does it have)

As for the insight...i know it either can have a 5 speed manual or CVT, so which one is in the game and how does it handle?

this car isnt a hybrid...but worth mentioning...thoughts? :)

You have the prius in GT4P
It is slow but cool to drive because they made other gauges for it and you see the thing that you normally see on the TV in the car. In prologue I drove it till the battery was empty :) but then you just drive further on gas so no big difference.

as for the CVT transmission...if one? (if not, what tranny)

I really want to test drive that Insight (in red color like in the movie "mean girls")

Btw those prius' are ugly and expensive. So give me the insight or the that Lexus RX430 Hybrid (but it isn't in the game )

I've still would like to own a Prius but their are still being sold for 3 to 4k over MSRP even on Ebay!! It will be interesting to drive the Hybrids and see if their mpg advantage is noticeable and useful in the game.

I saw the report on top gear about the prius and they say it sucked because its too slow, too expensive and most of the time the petrol engine is working instead of the battery. And if you have a heavy foot (like me and a lot more people) that car isn't good at all and you never going to use the battery!

the prius doesnt change gear in regular CVT mode and it have its special HUD
but when i changed to a racing gearbox on it, it goes back to the regular speedo/rpm gauge.
u also cant control weather the car use battery or gas when u use a racing gearbox

and the prius is actually faster in CVT mode rather then racing gearbox, and it sounds so funny when u have racing exhaust on in CVT, the car is so quiet then suddenly loud exhaust noise comes out.

I have nothing against hybrid cars but the reason that they are not mentioned very often is that the game contains far faster and better looking cars than those listed. Although I quite like the Insight.

I can't wait to put a sport exhaust on that Prius and then I connect the tv with my stereo and Laugh to that toyota :p

I think Chris1990 said it right.. there's really nothing worthwhile about the cars except their fuel mileage. They're slow, they don't handle that well, they don't sound very good. There's really nothing about them that could be considered "fun". While it's true the "slow" argument could be used for many other cars, at least those have something going for them.. the old VW Beetle is "slow", but it's fun. Fiat 500 is slow, but goofy, therefore fun. And at least those have petrol engines that make noise.. the Prius just kind of hums along, literally.

I think the Prius is just one of those cars that was put into the game because it's "popular" and a lot of people own one (for whatever misguided reasons), so they get to drive their own car in the game. But the Prius doesn't have anything going for it in real life, so it doesn't really have anything going for it in the game, either. It came in third in Top Gear's "Comedy Handling Awards", so that should tell you something.

Hmm let me see, should I buy that secondhand M Coupe, or Cerbera, or that SVT Cobra R? Ahh screw them i'll buy a second hand hybrid car with 70bhp!

Well I will buy one at one point, but to be honest it's not one of my major prioritys in GT4.

the prius is actually pretty good when u reduce its weight and get some tuned suspension
very capable car to get high A-Spec points

plus the Prius is pretty much a milestone in the automotive industry. but it would've been cool if there is a hybrid only race series

Yeah I got a thought: it's the ugliest car ever sold by Honda in the United States! That's the kind of fugly cars that japanese people should keep in their country, not send abroad (GT4 has a couple more, mostly tiny - I have nothing against tiny cars, just against tiny ugly cars). Who wants to race THAT on GT4??

You're forgetting the Honda DualNote Concept that has a hybrid engine.

The Dualnote V6 hybrid was one of my fave cars on GT concept but why did PD have to make it a license prize?? :

Maybe a prius would be nice for a slower endurance race? :) Might actually outrun faster cars since they have to go to the pits less... well, if the lesser fuel use is actually implemented in the game of course.

dont stick vinyl fenders on my car :yuck: :yuck: :yuck:

you mean this dualnote?

and im still curious about CVT performance! (aka i want to know more about how the CVT does in GT4...)

honda insight anyone? has anyone tried it yet? does the game come with the CVT then if you upgrade it back to manual? base manual in the game?! tell me!!!!!! :ouch: :ouch:

wow... why are so many ppl against the Prius...

yea it's slow, but so is the Daimler Wagen..... it's one of the milestones in auto history.. that's why it's in the game...
i kinda like real life Prius (new one).... good enough performance with great great milage.... :)
(Prius owners are not misguided... they're just slightly richer and have a little environmental conscious in mind...)

Sven told me that the CVT is like a big first gear. Once it reaches redline, it continues to accelerate.

honda...insight...anyone?

also a thought...is the CVT transmission a better transmission for racing? if so, why, if not, why not? (i honestly dont know)

The Insight's slower than the Prius, and that Prius is dog-slow...

And hell no, CVT isn't good for racing. If it was, you think they'd use it in racing... but they don't. That right there should tell you something. It's an interesting idea, but I don't think it works well outside of anything but a very slow Sunday-driver like the Prius. Put some actual power to it, and it'll probably tear itself apart.

Why are you so hung up on the hybrids? They're pointless in real life, why would you expect anything different in the game?

The concept of CVT is good, however the technology limits it. CVT is good for small power car (for now, may be they can implement it later)
Not that it's not good for racing, but it can't handle huge horsepower.
CVT is actually better than ordinary automatic.
Why CVT is good? Think of it this way, CVT is actually like a transmission that has infinite gear, compare to ordinary auto transmission that only have 4 or 5. Clearly CVT is better. It will not lose power during acceleration, since there's no gap between each gear. That's why someone mention it way stays near redline when accelerate, that's becoz it is actually changing gear itself, just that you don't notice it.

But yeah! CVT or Auto is for Sunday drive only, if you are going to do some serious race, I personally will drive Manual.. As I hate driving auto box.

Sorry, but have you heard of the Audi A6 3.0 Multitronic?
Or the Murano with CVT?

Oh, and the Diesels in Europe with 320Nm + of torque..

They're getting there, though a 7 speed a la Mercedes, is just fine thanks. Or even better, the DSG.

Being GT4, I don't think a CVT with 200+ KW is going to **** itself..
Being GT4, it's not quite like real racing..

As for being pointless in real life..

Those not living in the large open spaces, but in crowded cities, might like the idea of getting around inner city traffic greenly..

It's better moving forward with little steps: hybrid, diesel, biofuel, hydrogen (it's not perfect.. When they can make hydrogen out of renewable resources it will be),
than getting around sucking the world's oil up in overpriced, unsafe, heavy-assed, gass-guzzlin' wastes of space, not caring about their future generations (Hey, we'll just go on up to Alska if we need more...)

But, I digress... It's now over a year since I first thought GT-4 was being released, I'm just happy to drive anything; from 440's to the Prius.

The CVT is well implemented in Prologue so I don't expect any difference in GT4 (don't forget the CVT and the original Prius were in GT2 - had some fun with fitting that gearbox to other cars). Prologue was the first came to do a good implementation of different types of gearbox. Another "interesting" gearbox is the Lancer Evo VII GT-A which comes with an auto box in real life and also does in the game. It sounds different to a manual gearbox in auto mode and also does not (well... it didn't in Prologue) have a manual option. I think as far as CVT's are concerned the the Honda Fit (Jazz) and Mitsubishi Colt may also have one (I'll have to check them out in Arcade mode).

I forgot to buy the hybrids last night (won a number of Toyota RSC Rally Cars to finally get a decent amount of cash). Those I will be getting tonight.

This just gave me a thought (the CVT Transimssion). CVT would be good for racing, since all you would have to do is tune the torque range's highest point to be right where the car stays in RPMs while accelerating (right before redline). This would produce a great amount of acceleration, and you would continue accelerating as fast as possible until you brake. Seems like a good idea for cars that are trying to achieve a top speed very quickly -- Drag racing, maybe?

I dont know, maybe im just talking out my arse.

in GT4
the CVT is always at the highest powerpoint. basically, there is no powerband, u are at the best power point the engine could go with no loss of power during shift and waiting for the engine to rev up again.

CVT doesnt feel fast, but it is faster then manual

The "Honda Fit" should also have the CVT transmission. Wonder if it works as it's supposed to.

CVT would be great for drag strip if it could handle the power...

Other problems are that the transmission losses are quite high so when you get upto high speeds it would be better to have a "7th" gear or overdrive gear to slip into to get the last bits out of the motor as the CVT won't hit the same top end due to these losses.

Also a lot of drivers use gear ratios to determine how to go through each bend... i.e. a 2nd gear bend, a 4th gear bend... and then varying the revs/sounds in each gear to make them go through it faster... using a CVT in this instance makes it harder to drive as you're limited to one point of reference and that is speed... and the sound is the same... thus making it very strange to race with.
