Hybriding a Possibility? Your thoughts.

So as per the latest News, there is proof that people have successfully hacked into Ps3 savegames, more to the point, GT5 save games. Now, I'm not one for exploits or cheating the system, but there was also hints that Hybriding is a possibility because of it.
I am a very active Hybrider in terms of GT4 and GT2. I don't find it cheating or as an exploit, merely a way to make the game that little bit more exciting. Doing things to cars like Transmission/Drivetrain/Engine swaps is just something that is possible in RL but abscent from our series. Forza has Drivetrain/Engine swaps (not to the extent that is allowed via Hybriding but its there) so it's a shame that it's not in any of the GT series at all.
Now I'm not saying that I am going to exploit my gamesave and ruin my PS3, what I may do is use another gamesave and PS3 for hybriding if it does become a possibility.
The News article states that it will pose unfair advantages to Online races. True and Untrue. The stats of the cars are hidden anyways in online races all it shows is what aids and tyres the cars are using from the other users. So it's a surprise most the time anyways. The hybrids I tend to make are replicating cars from RL. Eg. Evo powered Mirage, or a 900HP Mitsubishi GTO ala Pit Road M GTO. This wouldn't be a problem because your not making unbeatable cars. Your replicating cars that you wish were in the game. However there will be nobs who will make 4000HP Minis and ruin the online races but hey, Isn't that what the KICK PLAYER option is for?
What's everyonelses thoughts?

I don't have a prob with hybrids. It might somehow screw up online races, perhaps. Not really sure though. Hybriding cars just for the art/fun of it is okay in my book, though.

Your thoughts are mine exactly. We don't know the implications it will have on the Online game (or offline for that matter) but I'm sure we'll soon find out.

I have a friend who has already given the Midget, X2010 specs. He showed me a video of it and it was pretty funny i must say. He also said that he can't use that car in an online race unless he is the host, so hopefully that's the case.

So its DEFINATELY possible and already being used! If it's being done THIS quickly it must be pretty easy to master too.

that and about 99 million bucks like the PS1 days.

Though with 15Million dollar cars aplenty that's not much of a cheat like it used to be.

That's exactly where I see the biggest problem. Obviously crazy nuts stuff is easily spotted. But the idea of something like the WRS being ruined because someone gets a virtually undetectable yet significant edge is a real possibility unfortunately.

This will just make me play in rooms with HP limits as I don't think the hybriding will be able to get around that. (though I could be wrong)

Yes and No I say. I mean, yes in the sense that people will abuse the system but usually when people do that they tend to be useless drivers anyway.
I think its going to attract alot of abusers, but it will also see the introduction of custom projects and cars from users (like myself).
I mean what about the user who always wanted the RB26 powered S13 Silvia. Then trading becomes active again because cloning will only get you so far. If you want something truely unique, you'd have to contact the creator of that car. I say a win-win for GT5 and it's users.

If a super light hybrid car with a ton of power still has to meet racing regulations, it's not as big of a deal, although the competition could potentially end up very equal. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I like knowing that my tunes can help me to beat other cars. It would be a shame if tuning got thrown out the window.

In general, I know the people I'm racing against though, so I don't really see it being an overwhelming problem for myself.

Another good point.
The rooms with the "wacky Hybrids" will usually be free runs im assuming anyway. People will create more POWER restricted rooms and weight restriction rooms to stamp out the advantages gained if they want a serious race. Wouldn't bother me. Theres cars here in RL where I live like Suzuki Mighty Boy's with Chevrolet 5.7L in them. So would be nothing different.

Doesn't need to be superlight overpowered.. just has to be slightly lighter and slightly more powerful then everyone else. Set the specs of the car to the restrictions of the race. Also could open up the potential for a wider range of tuning for cars with limited options. Custom gear ratios anyone?

Yeah, but wouldn't a hybrid car still be stuck with one engine? Honestly, I've beaten plenty of people with as much as 100 or more horsepower though. As long as they make the restrictions I can still win.

While I used hybriding a lot in GT3 for the reasons you mentioned (realistic swaps, creating cars that weren't in the game like the then-new Alfa 156 GTA, etc), there's just as many who just do the wacky creations. While power restrictions can limit those from entering... it still means someone could equip their 300hp car with X1 downforce in a limited room and walk all over the competition.

It would wreak havoc on any leaderboards. Trading them may or may not be possible; it depends on what info is saved in the packages that make up the cars being sent to the servers and back. At least in previous games we had ways of checking for hybrid use; with real online racing possible these days, I find it odd that PD actually gave us less replay info than before.

I'd love to be able to hybrid, as that was the main reason that I put so many hundreds of hours into GT3 (and mostly for the same reason SlipZtrEm said). I'd rather it not happen because of the impact it would have on online play, but I've been wondering recently about how much that impact would actually be.

Honestly, I'd have to imagine that it wouldn't be that hard to weed out hybrids and hacked cars for dedicated online play, and PD could probably clamp down on trading them as well. I'd assume that all PD would need to do is create a whitelist of the parts available to each car in the game, and if anything is irregular it shoots up an error message. Another way that they could do it is by checking the specs that a car with X Parts on it should have, and comparing it to what the car does have, and similarly erroring out if something pops up. I've played games that used weeded out hackers in ways similar to the above, so I don't understand why PD couldn't do it.


On the other hand, that leaves little solace for unofficial competitions, like the WRS.

I would like if hybriding is available but I would use it for offline stuff not for racing online. I do believe it would be an unfair advantage for the user if they were able to add more downforce or give a car a better transmission or something to that effect.

Well since we're on the subject of hybriding I think it will be cool if people could find a way to do program similar to what GT3 did, since you can now upload your save onto a usb drive and theoretically edit the save itself to create whatever kind of car you want.

Personally I wish I could do "realistic" swaps just for fun, and have cars run wider wheels and race suspension so I could get that "hellaflush" looks on my car. 👍 Probably wouldn't race it online though if Sony ever decide to do what Microsoft did and ban your PSN account and/or your PS3 from going online ever again...

Please no. I know there are people who would do hybrids to make cool some what realistic vehicles, there will be 5 more people doing stupid stuff with it. The game will lose some of its value and "legit" ness. Its like a sports league allowing clubs to make their own equipment anyway they want.

It would be fine. PD could possibly allow it to occur but just restrict it online. Like have it check the name of the car vs max hp and min weight for that car, maybe check it against the hosts game data or something like that.... I would love to tear around the ring in a rwd 500hp civic

And most OLRs. The OLR cleanness rule STRICTLY forbids hybrids. 💡

My 2 cents worth based on that though is that it would be good offline where you can do what you want without it affecting anyone. Online racing though will not be the best place to put a X1 spec'd Golf "because its funny". Most people will see the funny side, but there are A LOT of other people who would just see it as ruining their race.

Too hard to explain but if you use the Search option, you'll find countless of threads on it including sub-forums that will sum it up pretty quickly .
