I am not one to post unnecessarily. I thought I had some useful information to post, but obviously the moderators thought differently. It has now been about 12 hours since I tried to post.

I was trying to post a list of the tracks in GT4 and the day number on which they became available. I worked on the assumption that to post as a new topic would get the most exposure as it is something of interest to everyone. I know I don't check out every thread so I am sure others don't. Someone asked when a particular track was unlocked though I didn't think that topic was the most appropriate place.

There seems to be no rhyme nor reason as to what ends up in the GT4 section as "New". I am seriously considering not bothering to come here as this is the third new topic I have tried to post in the last few weeks (since I started playing the game). I can find other more "user friendly" forums to spend my time.

Oh, the list in case someone wants to put it somewhere useful?

This is ACTAULLY very useful 👍
Thanks, great job, I saved it as a document now ;)

And it's now available in the GT4 forum. The moderating team is working hard at approving and disapproving posts. As Famine pointed out ot me, I let a very valuable one of his ride for nearly 20 hours.

With the amount of action that forum sees, it's tough to wade through the approval list, and review posts in that forum.

We're working hard at it, and with the advent of GT4 in the near future, we'll be spending more time in there.

Thanks for bearing with us, and we are not targeting you, most of hte time, I rarely read who posted the thread, I only read the content.

I apologize for your bad experience, RogsR34UK. Your obviously very useful thread was simply overlooked - please remember that our moderator team is human and they can and do make mistakes. As Der Alta has just pointed out, your thread has now been approved and is visible in the GT4 forum.

Once again, I'm sorry this has happened but I ask you to consider our circumstances: the volume of new junk threads we receive would render our GT4 forum completely useless were it not for our thread approval system. You did the right thing here, by bringing it to our attention so we can take care it. Thanks for contributing to GTPlanet and the GT community at large, and I hope you'll decide to bring any of your future contributions here again.

New threads in the GT4 section need Mod approval? Is it that bad? I will say that 75% of the post in there aren't needed. Some threads are soooooooo long I don't even bother reading them. :grumpy:

The mod approval is there to prevent useless threads from being posted. Now, *useless* members are posting useless posts in the useful threads. Uselessness abounds.

Well, the mod staff has an easy solution for useless members - however, if it gets used too frequently, it provokes howls of outrage from the population. It's called "banning". Lately whenever anyone besides an obvious troll gets banned, we have to answer a dozen questions about why the user was banned and defend our actions at length.

GTPlanet is the largest GT forum in the world. That leads to problems. We do our best to maintain an open, friendly forum. As with anything based upon freedom of speech, that means that in order to keep liberty you need to tolerate idiocy to some extent.

I can think of 100 names that I could ban tonight just for sheer uselessness. We could run a fascist organization and weed out users until we were down to the cream of the crop... but it would be an unfriendly, unwelcoming place.

And that doesn't fit with Jordan's plan on what this community is meant to be.

Yeah. I get what you're saying. I think the quote I have listed (or rather the quote when you follow the link) as my favorite quote here definitely carries a lot of what the forum is supposed to be, and that's hard to keep up when it gets as large as GTP is.

As with anything based upon freedom of speech...

Not to dis your statements, n_d, but this little phrase is a favorite defence of trolls at any forum. The fact that there is an AUP and TOS here is evidence enough that there is, at best, conditional free speech, and the fact that certain "speech" can and will lead to bannination demonstrates that folks do not have carte blanche to post whatever they want (and this is, imho, a good thing).

All that being said, you guys do a tremendous job, often with little or no thanks.

Let the trolls howl.

I'm just going to make this one last comment and then let the thread get back on topic.

Even in the United States, the government does limit free speech to an extent (and it should be noted that the laws and legislations of the United States don't apply here; only the rules set up by Jordan and the mods as this forum is an international establishment). There are time and manner restrictions on when you can say certain things (also where), and content restrictions if the content in question poses a "clear and present danger" to the citizens. There is also the idea of sedition being a type of content restricted by the government, but there is a provision in the constitution preventing violent overthrow of the government. What I'm saying is this; unconditional free speech will lead to anarchy and a state of nature, in which people get hurt. It is a very good thing that the moderators are censoring the GT4 forum, and I wish them the best of luck with it and God's Speed.

The GT4 forums is soo busy, i rarely venture into their in fear of my life :p,

The GT4 forums is soo busy, i rarely venture into their in fear of my life :p,

my exact sentiments,
i can only wait for the whole world to get the game, it will put an end to all the "does such-and-such version do-this or that and have something in it" type of threads.
And it will give way to the more typical and equally maligned favorite car, fastest speed, and best track threads

that's my prediction

I'm glad to read that the mods have taken these measures to try and keep the mayhem minimized

I'm just thinking out loud, but would it be possible to give 2 or 3 or however many members some sort of temporary "less than mod" status so that they could review the new threads in the GT4 forum. That would let the mods focus more on the moderation of posts. The job could last until the GT4 forum isn't so overwhelmed with people asking the same questions repeatedly (this will probably continue for a while once the game is out, the questions will just change).

P.S. As it is, you guys are doing a great job with the huge task you are charged with. Thanks again for the new and improved GT4 subforums.

Edit: it was late, I forgot some words that are needed to make sentences.

Actually, we have a handful of moderators, but as of yet, not a specific one for the GT4 forum. With as big of a site as this is, and will be after the release of GT4, that'll be under consideration.

Please note, that many of the moderators will have GT4 in their grubby little hands as well, so we'll be spending considerably more time in that forum.

Of all the threads that I review, 75% of them have already been posted or are asking questions that 2 more minutes of thought could have figured out. There are also the handful of threads that, should they wait a week, they'll have the answer themselves.

Then again, I can quote Queen "I want it all, and I want it now"

This is very true. I tried to make it clear in the moderation notes post on that board that people may not see their threads posted if we think there is a more appropriate place for it.

There is no direct way for us to append those posts into the appropriate threads, and it would be too time consuming if there was.

Honestly, with the occasional miss like the one that started this thread, no post sits in the queue for more than 24 hours without a decision.
