Due next week. I expect to average in the mid-teens with it, though the Typhoon hovers around ten (I took pictures of the Typhoon, by the way - I'll get them up soon!!). When is your TDI due?
 
Either the week of June 6th or the following week. I might tell them to hold off on the Golf though for a little bit since I'm trying to sell my truck on my own. The dealer was only going to give me 8 grand for it, I'm trying to sell it for 12 which is the blue book on it.
 
Not really, for some reason or another people don't want to buy it. Although some guy from New Mexico said he wanted it, but I'm not sellling the truck to someone that far away.

The truck has some problems, like needing new front brakes and it slips going into overdrive sometimes. The warrety would cover the slippage but not the brakes. I'm even willing to knock some money off.

Hell I'll take 10 for it if someone knocked on the door right now and gave me cash.
 
New update:

Just got in from the Springs. Reset the computer for the trip back.
Final mileage:18.2 mpg.:eek:

That's with 4 different drivers, varying between 65 and 80 mph.

I also got past the "1000 mile break-in period" on this trip.

I still find it a bit unwieldy. However, 1300 miles of practice has got it handling nicely for me.
I had the "privledge" of driving up to Cripple Creek, CO. Then back down in a huge circular loop.
I was following my Mother in law, whose Toyo Highlander handles like the MG of SUV's. Not fun traipsing around a mountain, with thousands of feet drops on one side and mountainside on the other.:eek:

The Big 'un availed herself well. Even if I was having some sphincter tightening moments.

For the "samplers" among you. In Florrisant, CO is a little "dive" call "The Hungry Bear".
It is full of "atmosphere" and one of the best hamburgers I have ever eaten in a restaurant.
 
My coach has an excursion....and he can fit ALL of us on the team in the car, and we can sit comfortably in the car despite all being around 6'5", and laugh at the Civics and Corollas.

4.10's are worthless, they used to have an option on the S-trucks. My buddy has it installed on his noma and hates it with a passion. Stupid choice on GM's part.

Suburban 2500's, at least around here, are extremely hard to get new, and that was the only Suburban 2500 in the fleet of maybe 50 Suburbans and Tahoes. We were also looking at an Avalanche with the 4.10 gear and the 496. Nice for towing, but, well... :rolleyes:
 
They might be fine in other trucks but it was a stupid choice to put them in the S-Series.
 
An update for the "mileage wars".
The Excursion has been to Atlanta and is on it's way to Disneyworld with the wife and kids.
I have to work, unfortunately.
However, I did meet them in Atlanta for the weekend.
Checked the computer...19.2 MPG. The wife says she was stuck in a lot of stop and go traffic in St. Louis, and Construction traffic in Illinois.

The beasty has recently cracked the 2,000 mile (total mileage) point, and seems to be "loosening up".
I'm hoping the MPG will go up with better conditions.
Pretty good for a 4 ton SUV.
Ariana Huffington, where ever you are, GET STUFFED!!!

If you get a chance, attemp to put some goodies from banks on that beast. Not only will it improve your gas mileage, it will help with the performance.
 
have you thought about going the WVO route? your fuel costs will go down tremendously.
 
Thing is, the big 'un goes out maybe once a month.
I need to hit the parts store to get some "Sta-bil' so my fuel won't turn to jello when it gets good and cold.

Isn't jellied Gas napalm? Wait... The Big one's diesel, right? So.. does Jellied diesel turn into anything special?
 
No, but as it gets good and cold, diesel fuel solidifies into a gel. I assume it melts back to fuel, but in the meantime, you can't drive the vehicle. Additives lowers the "freezing" point for the fuel.
 
Ah, the miracles of modern Chemistry.

So it's like anti freeze for fuel! I guess one learns something new every day.
 
I Picked up the fuel additives for the Big E.
I can't remember what the stuff is called, and now we are having an unseasonably warm January here in Kansas.

The additives raise the cetane rating of the fuel. I haven't noticed a jump in fuel economy. But then the truck has only been out a few times since the last snow storm.
I have noted improved acceleration and throttle response though.

I was wearing sandals today.. In January!
 
Yeah, I keep meaning to wash my trucks, but I'm so used to it being cold this time of year that I keep blowin' it off.:lol:
 
Congrats on the biig rig. I drove an Excursion once. Lots of body roll, but it feels really stable lumbering along the highway. I was also driving my friend's Miata once, when i saw my own reflection in an Excursion's passenger door panel. I had to stick my head out the window to see the top. ( We had the top up. )

the turbodiesel does sound really good though. I think all diesels (especially old ones) sound awesome.
 
theres no way that thing would get 20 mpg even if you stayed out of the throttle they are tanks a f250 SD doesnt get that good of milege and its lighter
 
These trucks scare me. When I was pulling up beside one, I almost got the urge to pull the ducking under the truck move from the F'n'F. Seriously though, when I was behind it, my head was even with the rear bumper. Whether my car is far too lowered, or this truck is just way too big is up too you. I'm just going to pray that I don't rear end one at a high speed, or i'll have way too much in commen with Henry VIII's ex-wives.
 
the 7.3 TD's are pretty quick actually well for a dielsel anyways

Granted, I didn't get to fill it up and do the "actual math".
And at the risk of being a smart ass...can you say "gearing"?
My Excursion is barely turning 2000 RPM at 70 MPH. Hell, it only turns about 2200 at 80MPH.

The only things hard to love about it are the low-speed handling, and rearward visibility. Especially when being followed by cars that are "un-tall".
My son's Lumina is almost the same height as the hood.:lol:
And the whole rig is only about 7.75 feet tall.

Usually these octane booster-type things (assuming "cetane" is like octane for diesel) also have the side effect of dissolving any crud in the injectors--which could have a profound effect on a diesel.

Well, my Excursion doesn't have quite 6000 miles on it yet.
But, last time I put my foot in it, that 6.0 Turbo, kicked in with a vengeance, and pinned me to my seat.

In fact, the acceleration is one of the things that sold me.
Plus, it will hold all eight of us, and our crap for a two week jaunt into the unknown.
And, in 5-6 years, I'll be one of the loudest, granpas in the pre-school lot.:lol:

my camaro rums about 2100 r's at 80 thats with pos 2.73 gears

you want to increase milege read up about propane injection its kinda like nitro for your diesel only in no way can it detonate and blow things up
so you can run it all the time no worries all you need to do is mount a propane bottle somewhere
 
Gil I still say you need the Bully Dog Six Gun system on the Excursion. I mean come on, don't you want to see the guys face in Corvette you just wasted? :lol:
