I had bought one, and then traded it in for a 2nd, a 3rd a 4th and finally a 5th. All had the problem that I couldn't shift when turning.

I have one similar to the one pictured (i.e. without the controls on the hub of the wheel) -except it's the original GT3 badged wheel, not the GT Force.

The issues I've had with it are:
- it drops out occasionally in GT3 (much better with its own power point)
- in WRC you can't change gear and use the handbrake at the same time

Other than that it's been faultless - and easy to set-up on the PC.

Hey, Vat, I heard the Logitech wheel didn't give much feedback unless you creamed the wall with it or something. I really like the rally courses, and the best part is the damme controller shaking in your hand the whole time. I'd hate to lose that...

Does the steering effort vary with the load on the wheels? Or is it not that subtle? :burnout:

A lot of the feedback has to do with the security of the mounting - mine is very securely fastened to a desk so the feedback is excellent.

The steering effort is very realistic - some examples:
- cars (particularly with variations in drive trains) feel very different
- you can feel the variation in suspension, e.g. a firm suspension gives more feedback over kerbs than a soft suspension
- steering effort does load up
- at the test course, a very powerful car with no downforce will get lighter in the steering the faster it goes
- the rally courses are amazing, you get a real pounding through the wheel, and you get variations in the surface - e.g. Swiss Alps, different steering sensation from the gravel to the wooden bridge, and the grass verges

I would definitely recommend trying it out - I wouldn't race any other way (plus you get the benefit of PC compatibility).

There are some quality issues though. I've been pretty lucky, apart from the 'dropping out' thing (which is 90% better now the wheel has its own powerpoint) I've had no issues - plus you'll find more and more games will be using the wheel (e.g. WRC, Burnout).

I wanna buy the MOMO but I dont wanna spend 200bucks on it. I want a wheel but I'm not sure if i'm willing to make that kind of money comentment.

Thanks for the comments. I read an older review of it and they totally panned it.

You say PC compatibility - I'm a GT n00b. Is there a desktop computer version?

Is the Logitech wheel USB, or what? I have a G4 Mac with USB and it would be cool to be able to hook it up, assuming there are drivers for it.

Thanks again!

i thought bout gettin the logitech wheel. but i really want the act labs Force RS with shifter and clutch. it'll be perfect for Racer, plus if they EVER come out with the damn hookup for PS2 it would be sweet. damn this wheel has been out for a long time, and still no cartridge for PS2. blech they are loosin major sales right there cause the wheel is kick ass

First, I would like to say this board is awesome, I've kinda lurked around for a little bit and decided to register.

Now, the reason Act Labs Force RS isn't available for the PS2, is because of licensing issues. Unless that ever gets straightened out, the Act Labs wheels won't ever be available. Which really sucks, because I agree with you, I don't think there is a better wheel out there.

welcome taz , nice info on that arcs wheel, but i think that logitech rocks

I had the same problem with shifting and turning on my wheel. I ended up using the L1 + R1 buttons that are somewhat close to the paddle shifters but it isnt the same. I tend not to use the wheel much anymore due to this problem. I think it's a great wheel, I just wish I didnt have that problem with it.

Problems aside, the wheel was a riot... If you drive automatic, it's a keeper, especially for Rally races... I shaved a ton of time from my best rally laps using the wheel. I think I just had a better feel for it sliding around the corners, and it allowed me to begin my slide before I got to the turn better.

I've got the Logitech wheel too, and love it. I've had minimal problems with it on my PS2, but on my friends PS2 (Newer model) it had the Shifting issues.
Part of what makes the wheel work is the mounting. I use a towel underneath, both to stop the clamps from scratching the table, and to give it a more solid feel.
Here's a pic, ignore the devil's device on the left. ;)

me too, i've got the wheel and have shifting prob, that's the ONLY reason it's stuck in the cupboard. I heard it was a software bug with GT3 itself, apparently the problem doesn't occur in the Japanese version, I hope Polyphony have fixed the issue in the new platinum GT3 but i doubt it.

Ahh - that's interesting. I run the PAL (Europe/Aust) version and haven't had this issue.

I heard that you can use the L1/L2 buttons on the wheel to shift instead of the paddles for GT3.
is this true? and is it that much of a big deal?
I mean i want the driving force, and i want it to be compatible with future games, so if the L1/L2 thing is not that much of a difference i think i'll pick it up.
I was thinking of getting the red gripped logitech but i don't want to be stuck with a wheel that can't play most of the racing games 6 months down the road...

I have the GT3 badged wheel so I didn't get the fancy buttons all over it - I wonder if you can't configure the buttons though...it's been so long since I looked at the configuration screen.

I use the L1 + R1 buttons on my wheel to shift and it's really not that big of deal. It works well for me, but I would prefer to use the paddles. You can configure the buttons in any way you see fit that is of course if you actually do experience a problem with your wheel. As far as the compatability of the wheel with other games, it works for some but not with others. However the list of the ones it works with is growing. Just ask at your local shop about the compatability of the wheel with certain games they should be able to help you out.

and in a couple days they release the ugly driving force wheel?!!!!!
