I just don't like driving them. It was the same in GT3/4. I know I suck at driving them, and don't give them a chance by practicing, but it's too stressful and not fun for me to try. I much prefer driving slower cars.

Anybody else feel this way?

each to their own yes, I generally like slow powerful but heavy cars, you have more time to react and can play with them with relative freedom.

high grip cars sometimes are a bit too clean and sterile when the track is smooth.

Better keep it that way; once I've got used to driving open wheel cars I felt LMPs way not sharp enough entering the corners.

What freaks me out about the FGT's is the nose-dive upon braking and rocking backward upon accelerating. It porpoises worse than a '70 Chrysler New Yorker with bad shocks, WTH???

yea, i find them all but impossible to drive without all of the aids on. the ferraris are ok, the fgt sucks though. one day ill do the fgt championship but at the moment im content to do online racing and stare at my XJ13 :D

I don't like the F1 type cars in GT5, they just dont feel real, theres nothing connected about them. In other games/sims though i really enjoy them.

Rfactor, iRacing and Ferrari Virtual academy have fantastic physics for F1 type cars and the experience is much more how you would expect, the physics are just so much more accurate, along with the FFB coding that runs through them it makes driving them an engaging experience, you can apply proper techniques and logic to them. I found the F1 type cars in GT5 to feel really dead, fake and well, un natural, they drive really strange and how way too much grip, but then they lose grip in strange situations, i just don't get them. The X1 is probably the best of the lot, aside from its ridiculous speed and grip.

FGT = Hate it.
F10 and F2007 = Love them.

I'm not that fast with them though, I'm certainly more of a touring car/gt racer.

I just hate them cause my FFB in my wheel kicks my ass when driving them or the X2010. Even set to only 1!

I find normal race cars more rewarding, just easier to tweak and you can mod them.

I agree with Bigbazz, I don't think Polyphony's simulation engine works very well with the F1 cars and upwards. In my experience of simulation programming, it's very hard to write an engine which covers such a wide envelope as PD try to cover. The sweet spot for me in GT5 is cars like the DTMs, or the Ford GT40 LM or the M3 GTR race car, which handle beautifully.

I definately disagree with you on the RFactor and other games part.

Those are all arcade games and have relatively poor physics, I used to mod RFactor and GTR2 / TDU for PC and such and they arent as refined, the FGT handles a bit ****ed up to be honest and I dont like it either, but thats just the one car. The Ferrari's are beautiful.

I feel the same way. The FGT, F2007 and F10 dont satisfy me at all. I don't have paitence for single seater cars, never have and never will. I don't want to wrestle a car that I'm only driving because the game tells me to. I'll use every aid there is without shame, just so the event gets done quicker. I'll take a Prius over an F10 very happily.

Pretty much exactly the same.
I did enjoy the F2007 so much that I bought codemasters game though.

The FGT is simply not the car for me at all.

Are you sure you're talking about the same rFactor? I've never heard anyone describe rFactor as "arcade" or compare it to TDU.

I'm a huge F1 fan and have been for >25 years. But whether it was F1:CE, F1:2010 or the F1 cars in GT5P/GT5, the truth is, I'm with the OP. When it comes to racing sims, it took me a long time to realize it but I just don't like driving them.

Same here.. not a Fan of the open wheel cars. I have yet to complete the FGT championship because of this... it's just absolutely brutal

I haven't driven the F2007 or F10, but I really don't like how the FGT handles in GT5. I liked it much better and GT4, and I loved the variety of F1 cars in GT3.

Yeah the FFB really fights with you in the F1 cars. I kind of enjoy driving them for that reason just because when I'm done my forearms hurt from the death grip I had on the wheel.

However, I lack the skill to be able to effectively drive the FGT in the championship. When I have a free weekend, I'll put in some time to practicing how to drive the FGT.

^^this:tup:
Attention: I like the McLaren F1 though (even if single seated:p)
I just find F1 boring...

Rfactor and TDU in the same subject? You realise that Rfactor is the basis for the simulation that the formula 1 teams use? Ferrari Virtual Academy is the simulation (strictly F1 sim) used to recruit top drivers for ferrari's F1 academy (much like GT academy) and iRacing is the very expensive monthly service racing simulation service, widely known to be the most accurate commercial simulation available?

I think we're on a different page here.

I didn't want to put the work/time into setting mine up so I went on the tuning forum here and found a good setup, then took a saturday and knocked out FGT. I just took a 10 minute or so break between each race, because they are intense and as I said tough on the arms. Took me about 4 hours or so to do, I won 3 of the 6 races which allowed me to quit 1/4 of the way through Suzuka when I realized I was DOA there, and still win on points.

I have yet to go back and beat the ones I missed tho.

Are you sure you're talking about the same rFactor? I've never heard anyone describe rFactor as "arcade" or compare it to TDU.

there is only one rFactor

it is an older game with physics that arent very good although they arent that bad. it is definately more arcady but nothing like NFS

i didnt compare it to tdu either i said i modded cars on rfactor, gtr2, tdu and a bunch of other games

tdu is an extremely good driving simulator if you have a pc with a wheel that you can self calibrate with your own linearity and such, always liked driving my 4 speed 2000gtr rb26dett skyline pushing 600 whp on that game :)

and none of these are even close or can relate in any way to real life driving

f1 cars are very hard to drive

and again, i wasnt comparing them to each other, if you would learn to read and notice that i just mentioned i modded all three games then you would realize that

and just so you know what you say about rfactor is completely false lmfao

Hahahaha

TDU is an extremely good driving simulator? what are you smoking?

Rfactors core engine is the same one the F1 teams use as a simulator, the physics engine is fantastic, overall it is better than GT5. Richard Burns Rally is even older than Rfactor, and you know what? that has fantastic physics, the most accurate for offroad racing available in any game.

You really do not have a clue what you're talking about... TDU haha.

You're so clueless, i was saying that the other sims are much closer to real life than GT5, not saying that if you can drive them then you can be a formula 1 driver.

F1 cars are known to be fairly easy to drive, but hard to drive on the edge, this is how it is.

About Rfactor, well then i guess those videos of Mark Webber and Vettel in the Red Bull simulator, which runs on Rfactor pro are fake? and i guess all of the other teams that mention they are running Rfactor pro.. they are just lying? and the episode of fifth gear, when the coulthard and a popular touring car driver race each other on the red bull simulator... which is again running Rfactor Pro, that is just all lying too? And i guess when ISI say that the core physics and maths were not going to be completely redone, because they were not wrong in the first place, i guess all of this is wrong, and actually Test Drive Unlimited is the true simulator? Yes, i can see it now, in your infinite wisdom!

i found rfactor very easy and not forgiving enough so i ended up deleting it as well as having 20+ mods downloaded and engine sounds and other stupid stuff taking up space

was the same thing for GTR2, i still have TDU because its extremely fun and completely customizable.

anyways, video game driving will never be like real life driving, they dont test f1 drivers on video games especially old out of date ones like rfactor that are just modded for fun now. bahaha you have to have a massive racing record to even get close to f1.

i dont see how you're saying that tdu isnt a good driving game with a steering wheel, very fun and very realistic feeling to play

i also dont see how you think im saying its the "real driving simulator" when i didnt say anything like that at all.

either way im not gonna argue with you because you just tried to say that you didnt say what you just clearly said in the post i quoted you in.

RFACTOR- ****** physics, not close to real life driving
GTR2- same thing
TDU1/2- arcade physics, very fun
GT5- ****** physics, not close to real life driving

you'd have to be retarded to have your racing drivers practice on a simulation video game, and yes that means whoever uses one (like you say) is a HANDICAP

my point is, no simulation game comes close to real life driving

i also didnt say tdu or anything else was superior/inferior to GT5 so go ahead and bring up assumptions, i guess you live in the uk so maybe its a lil ****ed over there trying to understand american english who knows? but everything you said makes me want to punch you in the face.

Bla bla bla bla

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE-Fge3gN9w - Rfactor Pro, and for your information, if you followed F1 you would know they spend more time in the Simulator than in the car.

I never drove the F1 car in Prologue & haven't driven any F1 cars in GT5, don't intend to either. I just find most race cars dull & lifeless in GT5, grippy tyres with full aero are just so boring imo. Stock cars on tyres which give similar lateral g ratings as in real life are more my kind of thing, I like a car with character that will bite you in the ass if you push it too hard, cars with more power than grip ect.

👍
