Well remember when I said I would never switch to manual(We all know where its going from here) from auto. Well I was bored and decided to turn on my PS2 to play GT4 since I stopped maybe a month ago. I was low on cash after I bought a Used Corvette Grandsport.

So I did that Special Conditions race I did the first part on Auto and won easily. And I did the second in manual to try it out. I tailed the Celica the whole race and lost because most of my attention was on shifting 👎. But I got the turns down and the gears in which to go through them in so I won by 4 secs.. Not much but the car is slow on the uphill :dopey: Well I sold the car I won and bought a Trueno for fun and fixed it all the way up with original settings and hit Midfield reverse...

I had some probs on which gears to use to drift but I got it down. And wasn't drifting as well as when I was on auto. But it was a new car so I switched to my Sileighty(With settings from DR) and did better with that car than when I was on auto... Well at least more control but I still couldn't take all the turns with ease. So I am just saying that I caught on quickly to the manual because I guess I haven't played in a while.

But I have a question if you didn't bother to read all of it and skipped down to the last paragraph. Well sometimes while accelerating during a drift my rpm get max and if I don't keep going faster I will gain traction but if I shift up I will gain traction anyway how would I counter that?

Change your gearing. If your bumping the rev limiter mid-drift it means your current gear is a little bit too tall. Get a fully adjustable tranny and run a shorter gear (meaning higher top speed, less acceleration).

Or, just start the drift 1 gear higher. This may or may not be possible depending on the what RPM range you are comfortable drifting the Sileighty in.

Yea it mostly happened on the 86.. Ahh yea I gotta bump it up maybe 2-3 auto settings... I only put it up once and I can hit my top speed on the straight away on Midfield... Well atleast 6rpm.

you're aware that you can adjust only that one gear giving your trouble right?
perhaps that's not advisable if it requires a large change... but if you only need a few hundered extra revs it may be ok.

also, give the tranny trick a try.
Although it's actual effectiveness in GT4 has been much debated, I'm not suggesting you use it to improve acceleration in this case (it does for some cars, but for others it's not noticeable in my experience). What it will do is provide precise control over your gearing with just a single slider. Much more precise than the autoset.

I find it more likely that you'll find a setting that will allow for the car to remain in a usable rpm range after an upshift in mid-drift with the tranny trick. But you decide that for yourself, each car does behave differently.

for those unfamiliar with this 'tranny trick' i refer to, I direct you to the following:
The Tranny Trick
Tranny Trick De-bunked

The latter is a discussion on how cars in GT4 are affected by this tweak, but I don't believe it explicitly states how it is done. The procedure has not changed from GT3 to GT4.

Wow that transmission trick really helps. Before I just used to adjust the auto thing:indiff: didn't even wanna go close to them, cuz i didn't really understand how they worked.

thx alot dude:)

when you're changing the number in whatever gear, are you changing the mph the gear changes at? because if it changes so fast, I'd think it'd be better to go with more acceleration so it changes quicker. Im not doubting that you need to give it more speed, but I just dont completely understand what you're doing when you change each gear up or down.

watch the lines in that graph window as you adjust things. The first line represents first gear, second line represents second gear, etc etc.
on the y-axis of that plot is RPM, on the x-axis is velocity.

If the slope of the line representing the gear you are adjusting becomes greater (steeper) it means you are making the gear taller - meaning you will have more acceleration in that gear but at the cost of some top speed.
If you decrease the slope of the line it means you will have a greater top speed in that gear, but less acceleration.

This was fun to try out I hit mad snap oversteer...

My Mine's Skyline Pic

This was for fun cuz this is my fav car... I can't drift awd yet but I gotta get my rwd first..

EDIT: Well I have noticed from watching drift videos that I am missing something which I don't do mid drift. I don't know if I have needed to yet that I notice it or just never know when to use it. And thats the Brake I only use it to slow down to start the drift but never use it mid drift. Can someone just make a quick summary about that for me?

Hmm well I have talked to some people and noticed I understeer a lot and I ususally go to fast.. *Doh* So I grabbed an FD and I've gotten some of the best drift sessions to date. Its still not good enough to call real drifting but I'm geting more progress than before.

I use the brake to settle the car in mid-drift...it shifts the weight over teh front tires allowing them to turn or steer the car...THe timing and pressure you use to settle the car variesso have fun and test it out...you will find that the car settles in the corner and you can extend your drifts....I hope this helped...i am not a technical as BL but he can tell you i know what i am talking about

The braking that you see in mid-drift is simply used to rebalance the cars weight...I use it to stabalize the car in mid drift by shifting weight to the front thus allowing the car to settle in the corner....i think its more of an advanced techniq
