I *finally* bought a new car.

$20 says boat. Don't know how, don't know when, but $20 says a boat does the damage.

It's got to be something absurd like that.

I mean the dude's car got hit by a train.
daan
It must take some kind of special talent to get that low a figure from a 4.6 V8.

The real talent was displayed by Cadillac, whose 1976 Eldorado sported an 8.2-liter V8 engine... running 190 horsepower.

Made even more comical that by the fact that upon introduction in 1970, it was putting out 400 horsepower. Emissions regulations, a new rating system, and lower compression dropped it over 210 horsepower in seven years.

Dad has a 1994 Mustang 5.0 GT Convertable which he said he got up to 260 km/h on the Devils Pass road (?) on his way back to Santa Rosa from Las Vegas. My Skyline has about the same power and i've only had it up to 180 km/h (okay, it did hit the speed limiter at that speed but still).

So John you finally bought a car, thought you would never get one at one stage. Tell us how it compares to your (now deceased but organs live on) Camero?

Ouch! That speed limiter is set pretty low...

Yep like almost all cars native to Japan (Sold in Japan), usually fairly easy to remove though.

Yeah, but I'm proud to say the Austin Princess is 0% American. It takes a special talent to look at one for more than 10 seconds...

Nice choice, MistaX.

Can I remove the one on my SUV? It cuts off at 100, and sometimes I feel the need to do, say, 110.

I am quite sure it is possible, but as I don't have any experience with your paticular model of car I can't say how you can do it. You would have to talk to someone that is very familar with your car, a forum maybe.

Ooh what a beauty. Must be nice to have a sports car. Unfortunately I'm stuck with driving my crappy '98 Jetta which puts out 115hp (may be more realistic to say it "put" 115hp back then, who knows how much it has now, don't even wanna know  ).

...Am I missing the point as to why there is so much negative energy around his final choice? Or is it fun to pick on him?

Yes yes, it is well known that I'm not a big fan of Ford products. However, I give more than enough credit to the Mustang in most circumstances, however I would much rather have a Camaro or Firebird if given the choice (fuel economy and the extra power are big reasons...). Yes, the rather "low" 215 crank BHP is a bit pitiful, and sadly, Ford really never caught up with the Camaro and Firebird in terms of BHP out of the 4.6L until they were dead, and added an extra eight valves to the engine, and even then, only matched the early LS1 models.

What is good about the car you got there is that they are cheap, easy to work on, and thereby easy to modify should you choose to do so. My only request is that you don't go around embarrassing yourself against hi-po Civics and GTIs, as we don't need another Mustang guy to make fun of.

The Flowmaster 40s should have been good for 10-15 BHP, so thats good, and other good add-ons to look into are indeed going to be a new set of larger-diameter headers, new cold-air intake, larger throttle body, and certainly some form of power programmer to better take use of the car's performance through the ECU.

...There are extremely cheap and easy ways to squeeze out the power, and I hope that you have fun with the car. I had a few friends in High School who had them (ironically one had a black/black 4.6L, the other a black/black 5.0L), and they were fun cars. I would have been more apt to search out a Gen IV 1.0 Z/28 (probably around '96 or '97), but thats just me...

Awww, it isn't that bad. My '96 Wolfsburg has everything that you've got in yours and it is plenty of fun to drive. Sure, 115 BHP isn't anything these days, but they are decently quick if you know what you're doing. I've snuck up on Civics and Corollas with "Jenna" before, and generally speaking, I believe we've got the higher-end speeds covered, just not the early starting speed.

So, my friend's dad used to have a black mustang. Same body. GT. Manual. Flowmaster 40s. Lowered suspension. He sold it a year or two ago. Coincidence? That car was pretty cool. Sounded great, accelerated decently, cornered fast. Of course, I rarely ride with people who drive rather crazily. Have fun dude.

Maybe it's best to leave it. I don't think I'm responsible enough to do 65mph, let alone 110.

Theory: the more posts a user has, the more he gets picked on when buying a new car.

John's made a good choice, we just like to give him crap. I mean come on - his first car was destroyed by a commuter train.

After 6 months of being carless, and the endless search to find a proper automobile...

I bought a Mustang.

Yes. I bought a Mustang.

Yes, I am a traitor.

Now for the real details:

1997 Mustang GT
4.6L V8
Black on Black
5 speed
Tinted Windows
Lowered suspension
Flowmaster 40's
96k miles.

Pictures later today if it stops raining.
From Camaro to Mustang.

You know Fred is really going to be ripping on you with redneck and hillbilly jokes now.

C'mon daan you should know by now almost everything to come out of America is crap.
Don't say that too loud. You might bring out the American Clarkson. :sly:

I don't think you guys should make fun of MistaX because it's not nice. I do, however, think it's great that you're doing it because being nice is for pansies.

:dunce:: What?

So you're saying I have a problem?

I liked you better when you were 28 and getting married to this chick in Louisiana and buying all the fans from Wal-Mart. Not necessarily in that order.

I was able to come up with jokes for everything he considered, really... It's John we're talking about, here. :p

You know, it wasn't all lies.

I actually did some of that.

Not most, but some. Take what you can get.

Sort of helps when he's considering stuff like a Miata and a rusty 15-year-old Mitsubishi sedan.

I can't really compare it to the Z28 since I've only driven the Stang 10 feet up my driveway.
It's not insured yet :)

Really the only difference I can comment on is the clutch isn't as heavy.
And it idles 200RPM lower.
Oh, and this is WAY louder.

Exact same thing my dad did with the MR2

So is your dad convinced your not homosexual anymore because you bought the mustang and not the merlot mica miata?

No hairdresser references for this car. Yet.

Edit: I don't see why everyone has issues with that car. I loved the color.

It was a great color, a rare package, and a great car. You would've done well to buy it. To be honest, I'd rather have that than the Mustang (but only slightly).

Nice, MistaX.

Get an Allen kit for it. Those 4.6s have decent pistons and the block is good, but the rods are ****.

Front-heavy, though.

That and with the $4k you could NA tune the car to produce more power too...and it wouldn't be as hard on the engine since you'd rebuild the top-end anyway installing some of the preformance parts.
