I remember when I first brought GT2 home. I remember I put it in my PS1 and I remember saying WOW, you know?

I don't remember much about the first time I played it, you know? but the game was so huge for its time, you know? 2 discs, 500 cars, over 25 tracks. And this is from someone who had NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THE SERIES prior.

So, was GT2 the first introduction to the GT series to any of you guys on this forum, too?

I bought GT1 because the commercials looked so incredible. I'd been waiting for a simulation racing game on the PSX and finally had my chance to snag it - so I did. I wish I still had it.

Here's my 2cents...

The game that got me into the series is GT1, actually. And I still remember my first EVER race:sly:, it's in a Silvia (Arcade Mode, obviously) in Clubman Route 5. I placed 5th with the Normal difficulty AI field:crazy:. Then for my 2nd race I used the NSX but I can't control it (I spun on every corner:ouch:).I've come a loooooong way since those humble beginnings..... (now the NSX is my favourite car in GT1:)).

When I got GT2 3 years later, however, I was so pissed off by the fact that there are no NSXs in Arcade Mode:tdown:. I threw aside the CD after that and never touched it until around 2 years later (at that point my GT1 days have reached 3000+ days and if I had to play GT1 again...:mad:I could probably die out of boredom). I inserted the Sim disc with little expectation...and instantly got hooked:tup:. I've fallen in love with GT2 since...

But now I'm feeling the need for GT1 again, I'll give it a spin one of these days.

Sorry for my ramblings (forgive me if it's slightly off-topic), but I like being nostalgic.

I honed my basic skills in GT1 at the age of seven, but you could consider GT2 as my first real game and entry into the series, as it was in this game that I really was immersed into the world of GT.

Yeah, I started of with GT1 to, except this was in about 2001, so of course, GT3 was already out. But at the time, I thought GT1 was barnd new, then I realised, "Crap, this game is like 5 years old". Still, good game to play!

I started with GT2. My cousin had it, and I stayed up all night playing it. I didn't have a Playstation at the time, but I saved up and bought one on eBay, and while I was waiting for it to come in the mail, I bought the greatest hits version of GT2 new. So I had the game first, waiting very impatiently for the mailman to bring me my PSX. Been hooked ever since. GT is the reason I buy Playstations. (and MGS too...)

I started with GT3 (I didn't ever own a PS1) but I wish I had played GT2 because it seemed to have so much more!... maybe if its available on the PS store someday I will buy and play it on the PS3.

Hmmm banned already.

I started out with GT2 myself, I still love it more than any other GT game. Gameplay > Graphics.

I start with GT2 too. I love the car sound and how the AI has the same car power to weight ratio. Make close winning (or loosing) if we can match it :).

woo i started with my 7th bday and my dad bought me a ps1 with anther duel shock and one game with was gt1 boy since that day wow i got hook up with gt then 99 my uncle bought me gt2 man the best day i had soo much fun then ps2 and gt3 was out lol in 01 i think or 02 after that gt4 lol soo much fun i can wait for my ps3 and gt5 lol

That's a lot of lols in one post :)

I got breathing difficulties after reading your post domi12. Can you at least put some periods next time you write? I know you're excited, but it wouldn't hurt to type an extra period or 2 to make other people's job of reading your post slightly easier 👍.

Nothing personal, just wanting to make GTP a better place.

I actually started with GT3 and when I first played it I hated the game. Now comes the good part.
One day I was on the gameshark site and a message came up that said "If you havent driven the Diablo in GT3 then you havent played GT3" So with that said it led me to a site called GTH a site dedicated to making hybrids for GT3 and GT2. That site no longer exists. So after a lot of help I was making hybrids in GT3 and fell in love with it. Playing practically every day for at least a year straight.
Then later I decided to play GT2. Somewhere around that time GT4 came out.
After playing Forza 1 and Forza 2 I lost almost all interrest in the GT series. The lack of online play for GT4 really was a huge disappointment. Thats just the beginning. I am keeping an eye on GT5 but at this point in time I dont have any plans on buying GT5 or a PS3 for a long time. :indiff: Currently the xbox360 has everything I have ever wanted.

I also started with GT 1 when it was 1st released .
And have played them all to death. I rememder get real excited about Laguna Seca being in GT2 . Oh Yeah and the scratch 'n' sniff discs
Still got GT3 and 4 Haven't played em in a while
Fully upto date now with GT5p :)

Gonna have to get GT1 and 2 again . Just for old times sake

[EDIT ] GOT GT and GT Today for the princely sum of 50 pence each from local car boot sale :) :) :) :)

Sorry for being ignorant, but what is a scratch 'n' sniff disc? Is it a broken disc or something?

I started with a GT1 demo. I remember thinking "I have to have the full version of this game."

Are you serious? I'm gonna have to try it.

EDIT: Just done it, the disc does smell of something, but I'm not sure if it's burning rubber . Smells quite nice though.

I started with GT2 but it was from the Pizza Hut demo disc. :irked: That game had problems. The speedo would say 200 when going about 60... There was only a Lancer Evo and a Mustang GT on Rome Circuit. The demo was terrible but I couldn't stop playing! So I eventually got the full version. :)

If I recall, that version was calibrated in km/h as opposed to mph. The exaggerated turbo gauge was cool, though. I always ended up playing the demos after I played the real games.

i first played gt1 when I was 7. Great game. When gt2 came out i was blown away with the amount of cars you could get. it was great

I got into GT2 first. In around 1999~ I got GT2, I had my PS1 for much longer though. It was the first game I ever played, and loved it. One day, the garage bug happened and, with my crappy knowledge of games I bought the Euro version of GT2. Then I got GT1, and a PS2.

i first got into GT with GT2

i think i was about 9 years old when i started playing it

and i remember my first race, 80s supra in arcade mode on the HSR against 2 corvettes, an rx7, and some other cars

I started with GT1. Played GT1 for about 4 months almost every night after getting home from work. It was real addicting.

And I kept reading online about GT2 and all the extra cars I'd soon get to try out. I bought a copy of GT2 before I was done with GT1. And I FORCED myself to finish (or nearly finish) GT1 before finally trying GT2 in March of 2004.

I found GT2 was awesome in some ways, but not so great in others. I got used to a lot of things in GT1 (which is a more technical, gear-headed game) and I thought they'd be improved in 2...so I was initially psyched about GT2's many cars, new tracks, and features, but I was disappointed by lack of qualifying...less detailed power & gear graphs, glitches, and lack of a boost gauge on turbos.

I also thought GT2's graphics were worse. Many cars look like shiny blobs on wheels. GT1 is very cartoonish, but in my opinion many cars look better-defined in the first game than they do in the second (please feel free to discuss).

But overall, I dug GT2. Spent well over 2 years playing it, slowly migrating from car to car before :) finally trying GT3.

Here's my history:

October 2003-December 2003: Ford Racing

December 2003-April 2004: GT1

March 2004-December 2006: GT2

Summer of 2006-January 2007: GT3

January 2007-present: GT4 :D

I didn't realize there would be a section of the web that was still receiving regular posts on GT2, I'm glad I'm not the only one who loads up their copy of this game.

I too started out with gt2, I only bought a ps1 in 2000 when I was at university and was given gt2 as a birthday present. I remember playing the game until about 5 or 6 in the morning, I was hooked.
As testament to the first car I bought in the game (and potentially what started the interest in the series off for me) that's my user-name; a blue Micra Super Turbo which I raced so heavily to rack up money for mods and progress through the game I could feel the difference in the car after each mod, even the small ones!

In gt2 I love the 'race mods' I was disappointed they were not in the later games, there were also so many great cars that I wish were available in GT4. These two things alone are enough to keep me playing the game for a long time to come.

My driving technique in those first years was to go hell for leather and get around corners as recklessly as I could, these days I consider it a fail if I try a fast, neat lap of the Nuremberg ring and touch the grass let alone another car!

I didn't think that there would be so many people on the web still actively posting their interest in this game, I'm glad I'm not the only one who things GT2 is still great fun!

My username is a testament to the first car i bought in the game, a Nissan Micra Super-Turbo in blue, this little car, which won me so many races, is one thing that helped kick off my interest in the series.
I miss so many aspects of GT2 in the later games, mainly the race mods and many of the other cars, so I still get gt2 out for a blast regularly although I am a massive GT4 fan also.

nope GT2 didn't start me off in the series. The 1st Gran Turismo game i played on was GT Concept of all games! I then decided after that, that i quite liked the game, so got GT3. That was also fun, but i think I kinda spoiled that one for me with the 10,000,000cr from GTC.

GT4 has been my favourite for me though, a mate had introduced me to that game actualy... I loved it very very much. GT2 is actualy the last game i have so far, since my cousin gave it to me for free :D.

I'm looking at getting a GT5... scrap that... I WILL get GT5 if I manage to get enough money for a PS3 👍.

I've been on GT1 once (a few weeks a go actualy!) and to be honest, I really hated it. But that's probably since it wasn't the game that introduced me to the series...

Each GT definitely has a different feel to it. GT1 is like that: I think it's not nearly realistic (as far as physics go), but in several ways it's still the most challenging GT there is to master.

We're talking about the NSX lately in the GT1 forum. This is a great example. The NSX in GT1 rides like a spooked horse ready to throw you off. In every other game it feels much tamer, yet still takes mastery. The RX7 Infini III is another good example. It feels so vague in GT1. In GT2, you have more control over it, and it drives in a more "tossable" manner (rather than tossing YOU as in GT1, it feels as if you're tossing the RX7). In GT3, it starts feeling very oversteerish...which is why all the drifters love it. In GT4, this is mostly gone (at first, anyways) unless you put some N2 tires on. :indiff:

Hmm....It's like this for me:

GT1: Hard to bring myself to play it again, because I thought there would be nothing left to do. But once I fired it up again I can't stop playing!

GT2: My first game to go to when I'm bored with all other games, I always thought, "Time to try out and drive all of those cars I've never driven before!". First few hours of playing feels like heaven, then after 2 hours or so it starts to get boring.

GT1 is good for long stints of playing, while GT2 is more suited for short stints. I don't know why, but playing GT2 feels more like a chore compared to GT1. Maybe because of worse graphics, or maybe because of longer loading times (in GT1 you can navigate around the tuning shop really fast, in GT2 there's always a slight pause before the next screen shows up). Dunno about you guys, but to me it feels like that.
