Hey
If your allways racing with automatic gears, your car will do the gear work( duuh!)When you are racing with automatic gears, press X your car will start accelerating (gearing up) but when you then press ( when your accelerating ) R2 and L2 together, your car won't gear up anymore(you'll just stay in the gear your in, it won't go to it's upcoming gear)!!

And if you are reversing, and you press R2 and L2 it will still stay in it's reverse but when your pressing R2 and L2 + reverse( just make sure the car is in it's reverse) and then let go of Triangle(reverse) while it's riding backwards, you should press X, then, suddenly X is reversing to!!( untill it's not in it's reverse anymore)

Well, i hope I could have helped you
If you got any qeustions just PM me...
:D

Well, I would not call it cruise control beause you still have to give some gas to accelerate....

No, t=you should do this in automatic gearings. And then you should press R2+L2 and then bla bla bla.....

Actually you have discovered an old trick. Do a search in the forums and you'll see.

And you only have to press one of the gear shifters, you don't have to use both.

The trick is very useful when you go up a hill, and don't want the auto gear to shift up. And it will most of the time give you some extra power if you go a bit past the red line.

Yes, pressing either of the shift buttons while running AT gives a 'gear hold' action.

I dont mean to boast, but I am astonished at the number of people who didnt know this!!!! When ever you get a full engine balance or a chip your cars fuel cut off is reset and it is put further into the RPM's. More rpm's=horsepower and the higher you rev the faster you go, that is pretty much a concrete fact.

BTW, for anyone who has fully modded the Viper and uses auto gears without holding the gear past redline, instead of having an 1,100hp Viper, you technically have around an 800hp Viper because the Viper revs around 2,500rpms past redline when the gears are held, for instance, if I were to run the 0-400M with a fully modded Viper and do one run without holding the gear and then another run with holding the gear way past redline, my time would be about 1.2 seconds faster, That is how useful that is.

PS, So many cars rev past their redline when fully modded, ie the Mugen S2000 revs up to 10,000rpm and the NSX Type-R revs to 9,200rpm etc etc. I honestly cant believe that more people didnt realize this! oh and BTW, The Vipers Stock redline is around 5,000rpm and when fully modded it is a little past 7,000 I believe.

i'm not saying it isn't, but when is that ever really useful?

In turns/corners (if you don't want to let your car gear up in corners) :D

What about down shifting? Does it hold a gear from dropping? There are LOTS of times I want to keep the car from dopping to 1st in a corner and sometimes it's really hard to keep my speed up and stay on the course through a corner.

Once again, use a manual trans and you wont have this problem. I dont understand how you guys can win races with an auto, its slower than a manual and you have no control over the car other than stop and go. Even with this trick you found you are still doing more work to manipulate the gears than if you would just learn to use the manual. it has a shift indicator light for crying out loud and it tells you what gear to be in when taking turns. when the little light blinks shift, when the little +number comes up down shift when going in to a turn.
