BIG TIP - don't give up if you crash. The AI seems to slow down to let you back into the race.
I crashed a few times in this series. Several times I was able to bridge a 15 second gap in ~5 laps. The AI slows down so much that you are never out of the race.
Overall, the biggest key is patience. It's a 20 lap one make race. If you are barely any faster than the AI, you will win over the 30+ minutes of racing. The key is to not push too hard. Focus on the areas of the track where you are better than the AI, and relax at areas you are uncomfortable with.
When you get into 1st place, the AI will always somehow stick within 1-2 seconds of you. Don't panic. Just don't crash and they won't ever pass you.
