I wouldn't doubt it, but are you saying that a passenger in the car can also be ticketed for the offense?! That's insane.

Matt, are you going to hire a lawyer? At least ask your parents to if you can't pay for it.

Yeah - especially in drag races (typically not in illegally-modified cars). Passenger's just as guilty as the driver since it's unlikely he thinks he's going anywhere but a straight line to race somebody else. As you know they usually race without passengers so it's probably rare.

Most states handle police chases the same way - if you're a passenger and your friend runs, you will be arrested and driven to the station - sometimes they'll escalate it even further (like actual charges - 'accesory' and such).

I would hire a lawyer if I were you - especially if he wrote the ticket for 80 in a 45 zone. They're going to bend you over on that one, and on the not having a license part. I hire a lawyer everytime I get a ticket - no matter what it's for. I've had tickets for 89 in a 45, 86 in a 50, excessive acceleration, exhibition of speed, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, etc., you name it, and chances are I've gotten a ticket for it. I also have a clean driving/criminal record.;)

 i think i've found someone with more tickets then me! i'm 17 and ive had 7 i can think of right now. 87 in a 65, 60 in a 30, running a stop sign, illegal left hand trun, careless driving, reckless driving, and one for the recking my mom's car when i was 14. well i'm glad to hear someone else is keep'n up with me.;)

Jesus! How much does it cost to insure your Kia?

If he's smart it's not insured with anything more than the absolute minimum - if he's got collision I'll kill him.

My thread was hijacked. Assholes.

I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I guess just have my umm...non exsistant license taken away until I'm 18 or 21. The fines out the ass. Yep.

If this is your first offense you'll get your license before you're 18 still. Back when I was 14 another friend of mine, who was also 14, was driving another friend of our's car, and rear ended somebody. He got his license the day he turned 16.

Get a lawyer.
Two of 'em.

I'm a horrible speeder. I passed 2 cops the other day on my way to work. I use to interstate to get there, so I go fast. I was in the fast line, had the car floored. It was at 120mph and the pedal was to the floor. Cheap ass 01 Neon won't go any faster. So, this rig is in the right lane, blocking my view of the 2 cops. They were both with another car they had stopped. I finally saw the 2 pigs right when I was even with them. I freaked. I mean, I passed 3 cops doing well over 70mph, which is the interstate speedlimit in that area. So, instead of slowing down, I kept it floored. Hell, if I were to slow down, they'd catch me. I have a better chance of not getting caught if i just kept it floored. So I did. I made it to work without getting busted. It was a rush.

Look at what GTA3/VC's done to this poor kid.:p

Ha. Naw, games really cannot be blamed for people speeding. I just get a rush out of going faster than legal speeds. It's fun.

Hah, I got a kick out of the part about keeping the Neon floored to get away. I'm sure if the cops really saw you they would have gotten to you.

Fastest I've done is 86 in a...55...no wait, it's down to 45 since it's construction(NOTE TO ALL, this is a hyway type road that starts from another street, the construction is to lengthen the street, and there's no workers or anything in the area where I did 86(from about 15mph, it's always fun to go flat out for a little bit)). I haven't been pulled over...I've gotten a few scares though. I was driving up to see my dad at Fusz, doing about 50 in a 40...I wasn't really looking in the opposite lanes but there was a cop there...I slowed down after that.

I haven't done my high speed testing yet...first I need to find a place for that like I-55 north or something(though that's a pretty long drive for me), and then I need to be prepared. :)

Yeah. I didn't have my license on me either. That's probably because I don't have one. But anyway, I was heading down Main Street, I was doing about 80mph. I had to get my brother to work on time, so I had to go fast. The speed limit on Main Street is 45mph. The state trooper dude that I passed thought I was going a little over the speed limit. So he stopped me. He umm...was really nice which was a relief. He told me he wouldn't put on the ticket that I didn't have an actual license, and that he'd just give me a citation for speeding and not having my "license" with me. But yeah, so, I go to court soon and at 9am. Ouch. So umm...yeah.

Three things,
1. Go immediately and get your license. Hopefully, if the judge looks at it he won't notice the date of issue is after the date of the ticket.
2. In KS, you can choose to just pay the fine and waive the court appearance.
It sounds like the cop had you dead to rights.
Pay the fine, take the hit on your insurance, and stay out of jail, or keep them from keeping you from getting your license.
3. If he didn't radar you, you have that in your favor.

Actually if you watch those police chase shows, you'll be able to see where each driver screws up, either by turning on a dead end road, hitting a spike strip they could have gone around, getting pitted by a cop car(which is avoidable), or simply running out of gas. What you need to do is get some gel-filled tires, the ones that you could run over a ton of nails and they do penetrait the tire but the gel fills in that hole and you can keep driving, make sure you have a full tank, never leave an area you're familiar with, and be alert. Don't do foolish things like blow through red lights or go into opposing lanes. And most important, never bail unless your car is disabled. Really, if you like your car, don't bail at all. Just come to a stop, sit there, and wait for the cops to come and give up. You'll get less time in jail if you give up without force needed.

Erm, maybe I shouldn't have tried to influence anyone to do that...

You'll never outrun the helicopter. Never. Ever.

What do their helicopters fly at? 140-160-ish? If so it would be possible to outrun one if you had enough road.

Try running from the cops in a rural area/poorer town that won't have a heli...:)

Nah - just head to the airport and pray they don't get clearance...

I believe congradulations are in order. Man, it must really suck to be you. I hope everything turns out ok.

Heh- reminds me of something that happened when I was driving my Dad's car when I was 14.:O

Anyhoo, I wouldn't go to the airport. I'd go to the Wild Dunes Marina, and hop in my secret submarine, and drive(or whatever the hell it is you do in a submarine:odd:) to Antarctica. Don't you think that would be cool?

You may be able to outrun the chopper (not likely), but you'll never, ever outrun "Motorola".
If you try, you will get free admission into the "Greybar hotel".
