I Got Scammed! :yuck:

Yes, I did; and it sucked. As a reminder, the kind mods here have requested that people who are scammed do not post the names of the scammers. I wanted to start this thread to try and quantify how often this occurs, because it’s something that isn’t really talked about. The point of this is to help give people a better understanding of their risk when trading. It's also a place to share your story.

----------------------------------------------------------

If anyone who has scammed someone wants to admit their deed and share their story, please do so. If you also choose to honor your end of your original deal, please do so and post verifiable details regarding that as well. I plan to choose at least one of these people to send a nice GT5 gift to, just for owning up to it.

What did you get scammed for. e.g. what were you giving him and what were you supposed to be recieving?

I haven't been scammed and I don't want to be, but if it happens I sure as heck will not let it bother me.

put it this way. if you guys pm'd each other. give ALL that info to the Mod's in the report post. i did and 2 days later said person is sending me my cars:tup:

Meh i looked this up cuz i just got scammed out of my Peugeot 908 HDi Fap..Damnit, least I still have my 787b I'll never trade that..

Scamming would and does suck. Just be sure to back up your game FIRST and then if someone doesn't come through, you haven't really lost anything... just time.

No worries it doesnt take much time to raise of 4million creds off of the american championships 👍

It can be a fine line of assuming you've been scammed, and just a mishap or emergency that takes someone away from home.
I thought I was scammed once and it was just a mishap, and the person did contact me and completed the trade.
Currently, myself and another member both feel we have been scammed by the same user. I am giving time for said person to complete, but will be turnig into mods on Monday with both details.
Checking their log is a great way to double check that they received your car, and - make sure you save your 'private messages', as this may be the only other proof you have.
I have duped a few trades so I am not out anything, but it's still something to be upset about because these people should not be taking advantage of the people that just enjoy the game and enjoy collecting.
It just leave a bad taste in your mouth, and I personally want them removed so they don't continue to scam others (who may not be duping)
Just my two cents

I got scammed out of my blue X2010. He was going to dupe it and give it back. then send an orange one the next day. Fortunatley, i saved my data before saving. he may hve gotten the x1 but the only thing i lost was ~100k and a delorean i won after SAVING MY DATA.

There should really be some kind of warning or that sort so traders are aware of scammers.
Because some guys on this forum are actually trying to scam people off.. for their own good.

Lol.... if you paid twelve bucks for a 2gb usb stick, you got scammed.

I got scammed by someone from here, but from what I've noticed the dude only posts about cars he/she is trying to get, says stuff like "my name is _____ add me we can trade". Maybe he didn't do it on purpose but this was before the back-up save was implemented.
So I sent a Silver S7 for a McLaren F1, he got the S7 alright, but no MC F1 to be found.
I just told him good luck, I don't let it bother me. Probably some kid anyways.

If your x1 got scammed, screwed it! most cars now are giving away, so Pm me, if you want a x1 you like for nothing! i offer free hand for special people who got scammed.

Thankyou,

I got scammed out of my $300000 Dodge Challenger for a Fully Modded M5, but the M5 never turned up!

The thing with this trade was that we were going through all of the usual steps: friend requests, setting car to "share with friends" status to confirm the car, etc. Since we were in communication and I understood that we both had trade-slots open, the trade was happening in real-time.

Someone has to send first, so I did. I waited about 5-10 minutes, and then followed up with a "did you get the car" message. He responds to say "no", and ask where the car is, along with some other smart-ass comments.

Meanwhile I was checking his Log, which clearly showed him receiving the car, switching to it, and using it for a race. Of course I called him on this, and he still denied receiving it, and didn't even seem to be aware of his Log or its contents. It was then that I realized I was probably dealing with a kid, and one who couldn't differentiate between cheating on a videogame, and cheating a real person.

After all that, I didn't even care about the car so much as I did the waste of time.

I can't understand why anyone would even stoop to these levels with the amount of good trading available.
