Indeed I did. And boy are they nice. I ordered a set of Logitech Z-5500 5.1 surround speakers. This is Logitech's top of the line surround rig. Complete with a 10" subwoofer and 505 watts of total power, this thing is loud/. The control center that comes with the speakers is very nice. You can select which input you would like to retrieve the audio source from, effects for the different sources, settings, volume for surround, center channel, subwoofer, and overall volume. It comes with a remote that will do the exact same thing. 👍

Here are the specs and other info.

* Total RMS power: 505 watts RMS
o Satellites: 317 watts RMS (2 x 62 W front, 2 x 62 rear, 69 W center)
o Subwoofer: 188 watts RMS
* Total Peak power: 1010 watts
* Maximum SPL: >115 dB
* Frequency response: 33 Hz — 20 kHz
* Amplifier: Ultra-linear, high-capacity analog
* Signal to noise ratio: >93.5 dB, typical 100
* Input impedance: 8,000 ohms
* Drivers:
o Satellites: 3” polished aluminum phase plug drivers
o Subwoofer: 10” high-excursion ported driver with 6th order bass reflex enclosure
* Surround sound effects
o Hardware decoding for Dolby® Digital, DTS®, and DTS®, 96/24 soundtracks
o Dolby Pro Logic II (Movie and Music modes)
o 6 Channel Direct
o Stereo x2
o Stereo
* Supported digital formats:
o Dolby Digital
o DTS and DTS 96/24
o PCM (uncompressed stereo): 44.1 kHz / 16 bit through 96 kHz / 24 bit
* Source Inputs
o Digital optical for DVD or CD players, PlayStation®2, Xbox®**
o Digital coaxial for DVD or CD players or PC sound cards (requires coaxial cable, sold separately)
o 6 channel direct (3 stereo-mini connectors) for 2, 4, or 6 channel PC sound cards OR
o 6 channel direct (3 stereo-mini connectors) for 3 stereo analog mini audio sources, like CD and DVD players, Playstation 2, Xbox, or 2 channel PC sound cards (some devices may require stereo mini to dual RCA adapter, sold separately)
o Analog stereo-mini (on side panel of control center) for portable CD, MP3,or MiniDisc® players

These speakers retail for around $400 but I ordered them online from ZipZoomFly.com for $294 (They were around $255 with $30 some-odd dollars for shipping). As soon as I can, I am going to Radioshack to purchase an optical cable so I can play GT4 with the speakers. :D

I very highly recommend these speakers to anyone that wants very high quality surround speakers for their PC at a good price.

Oooo i'm glad to hear they're so good. These speakers have been near the top of my shopping list for a long while now and i should be getting them in the next few months :) Looking forward to some Counter Strike and Battlefield with these babies :D

👍 They really are great. I am going to install Half Life 2 (new 120gb hard drive :D) and UT2k4 and have some fun tonight. :D

Install GTR, get in the cockpit, turn up the volume and scream down the front straight at Monza in the Saleen. You'll feel like you're really in the car.
HL2 is alos great on agood set of speakers, you won't be dissapointed.

Awesome speakers. I want something similar but I doubt my parents will let me bring something THAT loud into the house.

Currently looking at Klipsch... compared to the Logitechs, they cost $200 canadian more. I'll probably go for Logitech if I get something this pricey

Lucky bastard.

These speakers are on top of my Amazon wishlist.

Nice. I'd probably get those if I was after a 5.1 system (and could afford them!), but at the moment I'm only after a 2.1 system. I'm considering the Altec Lansing MX5021's (the Logitech Z-2300's look like crap and the Creative iTrigue L3500's don't put out enough wattage).

get some headphones. :D

I actually have the 5.1 logitech 5300z's or whichever the 2nd best ones are. they are pretty damn nice, especially considering the price. You won't go wrong with the 55's or the 53's.

I'm actually thinking about getting some Grado SR60's for night when my mom is asleep, or when we have company and I have dismissed myself from their presence. :p

Meh, Grado. The SR60's aren't bad though. I'd recommend them even though i'm more of a Sennheiser fan (obviously.)

Nice! Do your games sound any more realistic or do they sound more Hi-Fi? Know what I mean?

I used to have some L3500s. They were pretty loud; could turn them all the way up without much noticable distortion, too.

Mine? Well, everything sounds super-clean. some of my albums almost have a layered feel to them now, finally blending naturally instead of being compressed together by your ordinary cans. It all really depends on the encoding though. The frequency response is TREMENDOUS and really has some insane range both high and low. the only game i've played since I got them was guild wars. I'll have to fire up gran turismo and counterstrike and everything else soundworthy. Once you listen to them, you'll know why they're called Reference Class headphones. you just never have to worry about your cans dictating the way sound is projected...because it'll always be true. I need to get an amplifier before I do any hardcore analysis, but I'm definitely happy. Remember, I still need to break these babies in as well (30 or so hours left.)

I find, in foobar, that converting stereo to 4 channels boosts the sound, but also makes it somewhat bright (especially on my new cans :crazy: ). However, the slight brightness put out by the loudspeakers is just what the 5300's need to get a nice balanced sound out of them. I apologize for any sort of tangents I might be running into, but I'm just trying to point out my experience with said product. I don't know anyone with the AL's, so maybe i'll run over to the nearest place and check 'em out. I still endorse logitech for your 5.1 needs, though. They're definitely a bargain...especially compared with similarly performing products.

Omnis,

I was actually addressing Integra Type R (didn't do a very good job at it I might add), but it was nice to hear what you thought of the HD650's. Notice much fatigue, understanding that listening volume makes a difference? The Dynamic Range of those phones is what gives you the "layers" that you are hearing. It makes listening to music fun again doesn't? The dynamic range is where all of your debth is found. I was pleasured enough to hear a multi-track recording from a ProTools HD setup which runs 24-bit 192khz. Let me tell you....OMG, you could practically SEE the music. It was truely amazing. Some day we will have consumer products that can handle that kind of sample rates and bit debth. Can't wait.

:lol: The Z-5500's were for my birthday, actually (a month early! my Altec Lansing 251's were having some technical difficulties...nice upgrade i think :D) but I will have a lot of money in the coming months. Because of my fathers passing, I get his social security and I will be getting several hundred dollars each month. Time to upgrade me computer.

If you mean me, I havn't played any games yet. I installed Half Life 2/Counter Strike Source last night but havn't played them yet on the new speakers. I've been listening to too much music. :D I'll play them today or tomorrow though, along with Unreal Tournament 2004. 👍 And by More Realistic or more Hi-Fi do you mean more like I'm actually in the game world or do you mean just louder?

Do the gun shots in CS: Source actually sound like real gun shots now, or do they still sound like sound effects in a game? (for example)

I'll tell you that the gunshots on HL2 sound friggin real on my system. I scared the **** out of my mom by firing the magnum at loud volume. she thought somebody got shot for real.

Sweet! :dopey:

I love playing BF2/CS: S with the volume real loud makes the games great fun. I'm using a amplifier with two huge monitors connected sitting on my desk pointing straight at my head. CS: S is especially good for hearing where people are. BF2 is just insane, esp. when a tank fires right next to you. Ow.

Nice... You can't go wrong with Logitech for speakers. I love my Z-680's... It's too bad that I can't really use them to their full pontential though. The parents get annoyed by the bass/loudness of my subwoofer.

I'm playing HL2 on Hard Difficulty with Coax Digital and it sounds simply amazing! I was in the Water Hazard chapter a few days ago and noticed that if you swing the crowbar you can hear an echo in the area where you finally destroy the helicopter that chases you.

I might even play through Doom 3 and its expansion with again.

what kind of soundcard do you have? i just have my system running through my laptop's headphone jack. I'll bet they're way scarier in true 5.1

I'm actually using my motherboard's onboard sound and outputting it through a coaxial cable connected via SPIF OUT to my Z-680's Digital Decoder/Control Unit. Surprisingly, it doesn't seem to affect overall performance too much and sounds excellent. My motherboard is DFI's LANPARTY NFII Ultra B. I recently dropped in an Athlon 3000+ and and a matched set of 1 Gig PNY PC3200 Ram too. That's help overall performance a lot.

I've also got a Soundblaster 5.1 Digital that I'm thinking of dropping into my Linux box that I've setup recently because I'm using onboard sound now.

I'm in Ravenholm now, and the monsters that run at you and climb up the rainpipes are frightening (especially in 5.1 because you can tell which direction its coming from)! It takes several shotgun blasts to take them down.

Are there any Logitech speaker systems for say 70-100 bucks on sale? I'd like to upgrade my speakers but I don't have $300 to spend.

Logitech X-530

They're a 5.1 surround set for roughly £50 which is in your price bracket. 70 watts, so not the most powerful, but they'll do. Can be connected to PC easily and will connect to a DVD player/console with an adapter.

I got some pretty cheap speakers not long ago. Creative something or others. They're 5.1, but i find i don't get all of the instuments out of a song when i'm playing it. The gran turismo 4 music for example, i am noticing that there are cetain notes missing. Notes tha even my tv's speakers could play. But i bought them mainly for having the sound of the engine all around me. They weren't bad for £50, but I now only use them for tv instead of my music. This means i have to use my hifi for my laptop and ipod, and those speakers just for the tv. I'll probably end up getting rid of them when i get a new and bigger hifi.
