I have a problem with the game (speed feels strange)

I have been playing AC for about 130 hours so far and I really like the game and everything functions fine.

However two days ago when I launched the game everything was ok at first, but when I started to drive I noticed something really strange, it is almost like the speed of the game has been increased by quite a number of %, its like I am driving at a higher speed visually but the lap times are what they usually are when it feels just like it should.

I reinstalled the game on steam, meaning I deleted the "local content" etc and installed it again.

I wonder if it is a memory problem, as I did highten the bar of how many mb that would be saved when saving a race, but I have it down to like 10mb now which is nothing and it is still the same.

I am no tech guy by the way :p

In had the same problemen, but it felt like the speed was decreased. Turned out to be a problem with my cpu running at 100% maybe u should try to decrease cpu useage. In hope this fixes your problems!
 
Could it be you're seeing more FPS than your used to ? (Think 30fps vs. 60fps)

Did this come about with an equipment upgrade or visual settings change ? Did you change anything besides the replay file size ?
 
Thanks for the replies so far.

I have not changed any settings as far as I remember except the replay file size and increased the hz on my resolution, however the latter I did like at least 2-3 weeks ago so it should not matter.

And I have not upgraded my system since I purchased my setup new in 2011, all my components are still the same.

I will launch the game shortly to see if the problem is online only or also in single player.

Yes it is the same in single player as well.

What did you increase it from, and what is it at now ?, and have you been playing frequently since that change 2-3 weeks ago, or did you only start playing again within the last few days ?

I suspect you may have increased your gameplay fps/hz/refresh-rate, and the overall improvement in how 'smooth' the game plays is the 'speed' your talking about, which isn't an actual speed boost (as you say your laptimes are generally the same), but more like a more fluid display of your gameplay.



Basically, your eyes may be used to (for demonstration purposes) 30fps in AC, but if you increase that to 60fps in AC, and take a break from playing the game a few days before 60fps, only to come back and 'jump right in' with everything set for 60fps, double what you may be used to, it's very possible to notice a difference in the gameplay.

Maybe try setting the hz on your resolution to what it used to be, and see if you still have the problem ?

Hello again and thanks for your reply, I know what you mean but I do not think it is the case, I have changed my hz back to what it was earlier to 75hz, I had only bumped it up to 85hz, and in terms of my playing habit, I have been playing it quite steadily about 4-6 days a week for the last 2 months, so basically exclusively in terms of games goes for me, so neither that is the cause of my problems.

I have now however registered on the official forum and created a post an added a zip file so I will see if someone there can help me.

People are welcome to post in this thread as well though :-P

When playing I especially notice the increased speed when I drive onto the grass, the car bumps up and down faster, at last that is what I "see".
 
Generally grass is bumpier than flat tarmac so yeah... :lol:

As for your change in sense of speed, no idea, don't own the game myself, sorry.

60fps won't look faster than 30fps, it'll look slower, because you're seeing twice the number of frames in the same amount of time. It'll look smoother, but not faster. This is why games that run at 60fps always seem to struggle to convey a sense of speed. Games that run at 30fps tend to have a better sense of speed, because when you're seeing half the frames per second, there's less time to see everything going by.

As to your issue, I have no idea sorry. Hope you get your answer on the official forum :cheers:

Maybe something got changed in the "View" tab under the "Display" menu. There are settings there for how the camera moves and shakes.

Hmmm, so by that logic cutting the fps even further - say down to 15 fps - will give even more sense of speed? Not sure I buy into your theory. :)
Higher fps will always give better feeling of speed than lower (at least in my eyes) because of fluidity, as Kurei says, and of course simply because there are more frames per second. Just look at the video he posted. 60fps looks faster and more "alive" than 30. The lower the fps, the more "sluggish" the motion.

Well this is embarrassing but it seems to have been my FOV setting that was to low, I have no idea when I set it lower and I drive hood-cam only, talk about a noob error :eek::lol:.

Well at least I will have to fool around a bit with it now and see what suits me best and I will play a bit tonight hopefully :cheers:

Something I don't understand. Were you driving with the cockpit view when you noticed that the sense of speed was different?

I'm asking this because AFAIK you can't change the FOV when using the hood cam, only when you're driving using the cockpit view.

You can change the FOV using the hood cam in pCars though.

Well, yes and no. Since v1.2 they disabled the limits of the cockpit camera so that you can now actually move the camera/seat/eye position out through the front window and onto the hood. And since that still technically is the cockpit camera you can change the FOV. You could move the eye position out there pre 1.2 too, but that required the use of console commands.

He clearly said in #11 that he drives hood/bonnet cam only.

If he does what you said, than he is driving the cockpit cam although he said he drives hood cam only.
 
Hello again, yes I drive hood/bonnet cam only, it is what I feel most comfortable with, and upon trying different setting yesterday I seemed to notice a difference even with hoodcam, but when I posted I had played in single player only.

However I played more yesterday online and this is strange but I am not 100% sure it is ok yet, maybe I am going crazy but I will check more today or tomorrow if I find the time.

I seem to notice on the speed (looking at the km/h) and the numbers indicating distance in time to players ahead and behind me that the numbers increase and decrease faster then before so I am not sure everything is ok.

Could this be a result of memory leaks?

And yes Streeto, hehe that might have come out badly, but it is a bit easier to notice the problem when driving on high speed on tarmac and then cross over to the grass cause the movements become so sudden on the grass.
 
There is an FOV calculator called Project Immersion that will calculate a mathematically correct FOV for your exact screen and distance from the screen. "Mathematically correct" and what works for you is not necessarily the same thing but it's a good starting point. That calculator really only works if you are about 48" or less from the screen.
