Well, I have this bacteria called helicobacter pylori. I know it's a serious bacteria, but does anyone know how serious it can get?

Apparently it has already affected your thought process.

Helicopter pylon sounds dangerous.

It has nothing to do with the thought process. It's a bacteria in the stomach.

This is THE first link that shows up so don't give us that crap aboot EZ search and the likes : Helico

Like I sad, how bad you have it, wha the systoms?

Well, I have a lot of acid reflux and heartburn. Along with abdominal cramps. I have to take 3 medicines twice a day for 2 weeks to help cure it. And that might not even help.

So then what the hell are you asking for? Couldn't you ask your doctor how serious it is?

I'm betting it isn't serious at all.

It is serious according to helico.com. It can lead to Gastric Ulcers and stomach cancer. That would suck.

My doctor says you can get it from a dog licking your face.

Then your doctor is an ass. Dog saliva is almost totally sterile (strange but true).

Helicobacter pylori causes stomach ulcers. And I'm a microbiologist/molecular biologist/cytogeneticist... It's not terribly pleasant, but there's worse things out there.

Antibiotics - probably flucloxicillin (if you're not allergic to penicillin and derivatives) or another one I can't remember the name of. It's got a "c" in it though... :D

As an additional NO BACTERIA/VIRUS has ever been shown to "cause" cancer. Some - HLV, HIV, HPV - have links with cancer, but none have ever been shown to cause it (and those were all viruses).

I am allergic to penicillin. My doctor gave me Biaxin and Amoxicillin.

Wow. Take some books into the toilet, because you'll be spending some time in there with a pair of antibiotics going at you. Amoxicillin is fairly broad spectrum too, so you may feel worse than with the ulcer...!

Edit: Apparently the best combination is Omeprazole and Clarithromycin (although Omeprazole will make you want to chuck). And according to the numbers I've seen 40-50% of the population harbour H. pylori with no symptoms... Not a shocker, as around 50% of us harbour Neisseria meninginditis - the bug responsible for bacterial meningitis - with no ill effects.

We have 23 different species of bacteria living on/in us at any given time - it's only when they get out of place that there's a problem. Inflamed stomach tissue gives H. pylori somewhere to go nuts... We have Escherichia coli in our colon (aka "bum bugs") all the time - but when it gets into food it can kill, and has...

So you saw your doctor and he gave you antibiotics. Then you came to a Gran Turismo website to ask people if the bacteria is serious?

Haha, I find that hilarious.

But, I take Prilosec OTC, which stops the acid from forming.

It'll be nausea. Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum antibiotic, which means it kills pretty much any bacterium it comes near. As I said earlier, we have 23 species of bacteria living in/on us, and it's mostly a symbiotic relationship. Nuke them and you'll feel like crap - but the numbers will recover.

I'm guessing you've got a 3-4 week course of drugs. Make sure you take them all, else you'll be in bigger trouble than before - read up on the theory of the genesis of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus... (MRSA).

The town where I live (Wishaw) is in the Guinness book of Records for having the worst outbreak of E. Coli!! :D

And Klos, it seems like Famine knows more about this than Curveball's doc.

I'd think about getting a new doctor. I might even move to Yorkshire.

Curveball: do you have one of those doctors who goes by his first name? i.e. Doctor Fred.
