ok, i found out a vey obvious way to make the fabled back cars rule like their counterparts.have two memory cards with the same data on it. with one, buy the cars from the used car lot. with the second, buy them from the first card through the trade window. this should work because whenever you buy a car from someone your car has no miles on it, and has no problems with it. tell me if it works!

This has been said before, but when you buy the car from your memory card it has the same milage as when you bought it from the used car lot. It doesn't have 0 miles on the counter.... This only works for prize cars and cars that were bought new.

aw ****za! i missed my chance to get one last night because i didnt have the funds...

wait, why shouldnt it? that happens on my game when i buy cars from my brother, and he usually has a couple thousand miles on them, and when i get them, the milage counter is all clear? maybe they[polyphony digital] want to torture us with this only happening on the black cars?

Just type in "black", or "car", or even both of them in the search function to get all your answers as on this there has been posted a bunch;

Were the dudes with the close button? ;)

Mileage is only erased for cars that have been available with 0 miles. This means only prize cars or new manufacturers cars will loose the mileage when buying from the second memory card.

Why? I don't know. It just resets the car to the 'original value' which for used cars is the value when they're bought from the used car lot. Imo it's strange that the mileage is reset. It should stay at the mileage it has reached (under it's 'previous owner') when you buy it. Probably has to do with programming :)
Actually, I think the whole 'buying from another memory card' is a bit weird.

Another thing I should point that would save people money, is that you don't need 2 memory cards to buy a car from yourself, you just stick your card in slot 2 and then back into the first one after buying the cars.

PERFECT BALANCE

Whoa no way! So I can reset the mileage for my cars (new/prize of course)? If so, then good 'cause I only got one memory card. But wait, I wouldn't corrupt my data somehow would I (by removing my only card from slot 1 then putting it in slot 2, removing it from slot 2, etc.)?

Heck yes, you could. GT4 is highly likely to corrupt your game save if you do anything even slightly odd with your memory card.

Don't even launch your GT4 game and then 'save as' onto a second memory card to copy it - reset the PS2, eject the GT4 disk, and use the browser instead.

I don't think it should, I have done this countless times. When it says insert the card with the garage memory, just pop it in, and it loads the data, then after you exit back out, it says "the data on memory card slot one has changed, do you wish to save?" And thats all, I don't see how it could corrupt it, because at no point in this procedure would you happen to be taking out the card while it's saving or anything. It's not any different than turning off autosave, and just pressing save when it asks you. Plus, the game is on the whole time this is happening, so as soon as you change your car or anything, it's going to save the game again, so it can protect itself from corruption.

My friends data has corrupted around 3 times, but it never has corrupted during this procedure, so I don't think it's because my memory card is good or something.

I think gt4 would be more likely to corrupt while backing up your data on another card than while doing this.

^^^ I've done it.
But I'd be prepared for the worst, you never know.
I have 2 anyways, for the purpose of 2 game saves (no, don't try putting 2 on 1)

why do you think its wheird homeslice? i mean, im farther in the game then my brother[65.3% compared to 94.2%] and i have the funds, but i want some cars that he bought[usually the ones from tuner village] but not have to pay the full price.

English is not, as you have probably noticed, my first language and only now I see that I might have offended people.:guilty: I don't think people who are doing the memory card buying thing are weird or that doing it is an act of insaneness... it's the mechanics behind it, that are, well, strange imho.
You buy a car from someone else, but the person you buy it from doesn't lose the car, nor does he/she get the money. Then when you get the car it has no (or a significantly lower) mileage. It's a nice extra in the game, but I think it would be interesting if there really was some sort of trade-off. You might even negotiate a price within limits or something like that...
I'm really sorry if I offended someone.
