Sup, guys.

So, like, here's what went down.

As you know, Florida is a pretty hot place. We've been having a hot, dry, rainless (for the most part) spring, and today it was particularly scorching without a cloud in the sky.

For the past few days or weeks, we haven't had sprinklers working because there is a root that severed or is stopping up a line, and the association has dealt with this problem with more sloth than displayed during hurricane cleanup. Anyway, their negligence bit them in the ass today. There is a pretty large patch of bushes and palm trees at the entrance to our parking lot. Much of the palm tree is dead and dry, along with most of the bushes and surrounding grass. Then, along come these two kids (according to another lady driving by) who must've been smoking and flicked a cigarrette towards the ground, or whatever they were doing, and little did they know what their actions would become.

I was getting into my car when something caught the corner of my eye. I saw a LOT of smoke coming out of those bushes, and then I thought I'd better call 911. Hahaha. As soon as I got on the phone with the operator, the entire patch of bushes erupted into a 6 foot tall flameball. I was scared that it would reach the bushes lining our parking lot and even wind up setting some cars on fire. Thankfully, the palm trees above it didn't ignite. The trunks were smouldering heavily, though. The flames died down after about a minute (because everything was ash  ), but the grass was still on fire and spreading. I started stomping out everything before it got to the car bushes (in my new size 16 Asics Fortitudes  ), and then the tree started to light on fire, but, luckily, the fire dept. came right then and put it out.

Lesson: Water your grass, and, if you do smoke, be mindful of where you dispose your butts.

El Gigante
Size 16, wow you have big feet! ...
Big fire extinguishing feet!

Well done for caring - most people would have just driven off or stood and watched. Not only did you call 911, you acted! 👍

Sounded pretty intense there. This morning at around 2:40am the hosue across from me that's still being built somehow caught fire and smoke was everywhere, even went into my room. Luckily the fire department came and kept it under control. The outside looked fine but it looks quite charred inside.

Did you stop, drop and roll afterwards just in case? Did the firefighters let you sit in the truck and turn on the siren? Did you even get a pack on the back?

Nice job though Smokey the Bear, i'm glad to hear you took "only you can prevent forest fires" so personally. 👍

Dude, all I stomped out was the 2-inch tall grass flames that were traveling to the bushes. Don't want the whole parking lot to turn into the flame labrynth.

But, yeah, I stomped the b*tch out.

Stomp that b*tch!!! Yer crazy. I like you, but yer crazy! I'm picturing the scene--a guy stomping furiously at puny flames--and I'm laughing histerically.

Size 16 is huge, but great for fire stomping  and DDR (becuase you may miss one of the arrows ) You ARE a hero Omnis . Fires are dangerous (This comming from a kid in the interior British Colombia Canada, where massive forest fires happen all the time )

Remember Kelowna 2003.....OMG that was horrible.

Anyways good work by you and the boat-sized size 16 shoes! Careless youth always cause this sort of a thing. Good job again!

Dropout.
everyone's more interested in his feet than the fire.

heh.

Yeah, seriously. What's up with that, man?

Wait a second, do you guys think I'm bluffing? I'll get pictures, man. I will.

For the past few years they have been pretty bad. I remember having to drive back home through Chase when they had a big fire there not too long ago.

I think we've had a fairly wet winter (Or at least us Islanders have)... I hope the fire season won't be as bad this year.

Omnis, good job with the fire. You deserve a pat on the back.
Big feet, big hands, big.......

Yeah, we need proof of those enormous feet - some people round here make the most outrageous claims and never back them up!:p

Good job with the fire, man.

Well done, Omnis... we'll never know what might have happened, and neither will anyone else unless they read 'The Rumble Strip' or have access to your photos, but that's kind of the point... luckily no-one in your area will know how close they came to being roasted. Your small act of common sense and quick thinking may well have saved lives, not to mention property 👍 :)

I hope you stomped the ground hard... then maybe in millions of years from now, when the human race is but a distant memory, the dominant, intelligent species on the planet will dig up the fossilised shoe-print of your size 16's, from which they will reconstruct a model of the legendary giant who once roamed these parts in days of yore... :p

Man. That sucks for them. At least they got a record deal, but they lost their lips. Oh well.
