Okay, I've been drifting for about 5 months now. I still suck at it. In Grand Valley (both courses) I suck completely now, I used to be good, and I saved a replay and counted how many time I did the corner after the straight away. I record of 53 tries on one turn and still no luck. I'd like to know, if you can help me find what's the best type of drift. I want smooth drifts. One's that you turn and it slides right away, but it's easy to control. GT3 has probably better drift physics than GT4 in my opinion, but GT4 I think is better in general. So I'd like to know what's the best car to just play around with...The best track to practice on...The best style of drift...Right now, I use Feint, Brake Drift, and E-Brake mostly. I don't know any other type, but I'm trying to learn. Can you please help me find out and kind of teach me what's the best settings for drifting? Thanks if you reply___

for beginner @ track use stock car with n1 tire ... the best .. if u want to use high speed drift use combination tire ..but in gt4 impossible lol...

okay, i understand the first part, but how about the 2nd part, with the combination and high speed and tire part

for example like gt3 .. ucan drift with high speed car with combination tre like front - s.soft rear-medium or hard ... i tried in gt4 impossible damn hard .. mayb cause im using dual shock

o0o i see, yeah i played gt3 and i love it so much more, i wonder if and when they come out with gt5, if u can get a drift mode like GT mode, except you drift and stuff...or in arcade and just drift normal...i hate the way gt4 in drift :yuck:

agree .. but finally i can drift with gtr r tune thehehe ... stock cars with n1 great ...

in gt3 i drift with highspeed cars like all LM cars... with combination tire... s.soft front medium rear ... my frend use sim tire front n rear high speed drift -crazy :O:O:O:O

Its you again but anyways just practice. Look at competition videos or real life drifting and just do it your self experiment ^^

sorry nk4e, but i was just being a donkey before, i'm not sure if i can swear in here...but i really wanna change myself in drift now...i signed up in the forums at drifting.com and i was watching their videos and i kind of learned from that and TankSpanker with his thread for beginner drifters kind of pointed something out to me...on how to tune cars and stuff

Well, you can always use the Private Message Feature and ask real veterans.

PM Delphic Reason..i'm sure he can help you.
What does that mean FI? and welcome back ^^

If your using the DFP go to Autumn Ring Normal, and don't be ashamed if you don't do good. Then go High Speed Ring Normal. After you get good there go back to Autumn Ring Normal and have a go at it, You'll be amazed how much better you get.

If you have a wheel, it's all about being smooth with c/s and throttle control.

Don't close it? You're ask beyond general questions that you could have found in various stickies. You don't even give an exact description of what happens when you mess up that corner 53 times.

Man, come on. It's obvious you're practicing but how can you possibly expect to get help with no details? That's like saying you having trouble in driving. How? I don't know, I just have trouble.

Details and search are your friend.

Suggest that you start slow.

1. Learn the characteristic drifting. How the drift dynamic works in GT4. You can do this by using some of the lower powered cars. I use the Cappucinno with the setting found in the Setting Depot, then move up to the Miata wz TS' Settings. Use 1-2 tracks for consistency until you get to know drifting better. Suggest Tsubaka (easiest) or Deep Forest and move on to Trial Mountain.

2. Learn the characteristic of the cars. Each car handles differently. The same car can also change it's handling characteristic when u Mod it or upgrade it. Changes to Settings will also affect it. Start low and once you find a setting you're comfortable with, practise with it till you're confident you can control the car even when it's sliding out. Then move up a notch and do it all over again. Note that MRs FRs, FFs and 4WDs each have different method of initiating a drift.

3. Method of initiating a drift. This is pretty personal and is dependent on your style. I mostly use Brake as well as Lift-Off with some Power Over to increase angle. My style is mainly Low Angle, High Speed but I found that some corners just doesn't allow that and you'll just have to go High Angle, Low Speed. With 1 and 2 above, you should be able to learn what type of corners require which method.

4. Be gentle in all the things you do. Counter Steer, Throttle and so on. If you just gas it like I used to last time, you'll end up meeting the wall for lunch in the sandtrap. Think about smoothness when it come to drifting in GT4. Patience and self control is a really big virtue here coz if u give in to ur desire to push too much, well, u might get away with it but mostly you'll get into trouble.

I think I've been ranting too much. I'm suppose to be a n00b here anyway...:P Hope that helps.

thanks for the WB.
what do you mean what does it mean? It means what it says???

back on topic. PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT YOU'RE DOING WRONG...MAYBE A VIDEO CLIP COULD HELP??? YOU DON'T WANT TO GET SWIFT MAD. :nervous:

PM Delphic Reason..i'm sure he can help you.

I certainly can... We have talked on aim... He knows what he needs to do... He just needs to focus, and do the research needed to understand what drifting is, and what techniques are used to achieve a succesful drift in various situations... You need to walk before you can run...

Swift is right, wootjdm, you need to give more info on what the actual problem is, before anyone can really help you...

This is just me, but I don't think you would be a n00b since you seam to sport quite a bit of knowhow to drifting :D, and welcome to GTP, hope you enjoy the stay here.

What you've suggested and what everyone else has are more or less spot on, as for W00t jdm... Nk4e said it best, just practice and look at what others are doing. For me though it's been a case of trial and error, I'm a decent drifter in GT3 with the DS2, and I'm slowly getting to the level I was on GT3 on GT4 with the DS2 and DFP, it takes a while but you should be able to get the hang of things if you try and learn how to do some things the right way with a given car on a given track.

Nearly every car in GT4 does vary in general behavior, you just have to get used to a car's general behavior first (in my opinion) driving it 'grip' style, learning how to deal with oversteer when it comes, and then when you become comfortable that way, learn how to start drifts be it big or small on some corners.

Or you can do the opposite (which only really works if you're used to sending given cars sideways, be it FR, MR, 4WD, RR or FF) and learn how to send a car literallysideways, learning it's limits before trying to go about it grip driving (which was the case for me trying the BMW M5 around Suzuka and Deep Forrest, I had to literally hold back my tendency to give all the throttle I wanted to send the car sideways on N2's :D, I still got sideways a bit on Suzuka though... good gosh the M5 is an awesome car... enough ranting on that model...).

Just keep at it, work mostly with bone stock cars or cars on stock power, I've been experimenting though with a Z06 Vette(420+bhp), M3CSL(Wing only), NSX-R(310bhp), SW20 GTS (320bhp) and a few other cars, but I've been mostly keeping some cars unchanged seeing how they behave on N spec tires (be it N2s or N3s, N1's as well...), dunno if any setups I could suggest would be any good to anyone, so I don't think I'll mention them.

In short, W00t JDM and anyone else curious, pratice is all you can honelsty do, that and learn by example of those who do know how to do it right.

Dunno what else to say, can't help but feel like I'm a broken record... maybe the same can be said for a few others including some vets/pros... maybe not, dunno.

Till later.

CT in the house here too! 👍
Anywho. As stated in the stickies so kindly posted by the moderators of this site, there really is no best car for drifting. The best car for one individual, may and most likely will drift totally different for the next guy, depending on his style. Go win some money, buy a bunch of different cars, and mess around with them. When you get one that you feel comfy cozy with stock, then start tuning it up. I definitely recommend a medium to low HP car to start. ( no more than 250 ) Slap N1 tires all around it, and have a go. THINK, about your steering/ gas/ brake inputs. focus on them. figure out why it went wrong. Spin out.... too much throttle? Understeer.... not enough throttle? Then try to correct on the next drift. experiment. Give it a little more/less gas on the next drift. Feint a little harder/less severe. You just need to find out what works for you. I believe the easiest drift to initiate is the feint, but thats just me. Stick with one style of drift initiation until you can drift comfortably and controlled. If you jump around drift styles too much before you've mastered them, you will just keep getting confused. As for best track, I recommend autumn ring or autumn ring mini, as they are short courses with slower and shorter drifts. Buuuut thats just me. Whatever you do, keep on practicing! :sly:

Hmmm...I'm really lucky, I guess. I had no problems learning. At first it took me a little less than a week, and then I didn't play for a couple months, and then I learned again in a day. I use the DualShock 2, by the way.

^^;.

Some one close this thread already...i don't need it any more...

You're a trip. "Don't close the thread please!" now:"Ok, someone close this. I got all the info I needed. Close it." Make up your mind.

If it's ok for me to close it now. Chances are it is things that are in the stickies or in other threads for beginning at drifting.
