So my bf got me into GT5 and I don't really know much about cars but I am starting to like this game. He doesn't really know how to explain anything to me and I am starting to get frustrated with the game. Can anyone explain to me what I need to do in order to get my car to have more movement when I drive (he said something about suspension??) and how can I get the steering to cooperate. Remember I don't know much about cars but I am determined to get this game. PLEASE HELP! :-)

First, what of car are you using? Did you start on bf's account or do you have your own?

Above all tuning settings (in each individual 'adjust' screen) there is a little yellow box with a question mark in it. That will give you a (detailed) description.

For starters try turning controller sensitivity up if you aren't using a wheel. I like mine at 2, but it's personal preference. This can be done at driving options menu.

There is also a tuning database here, the one with the most info (for me) was Motor City Hami's there is great tuning info for beginner to advanced tuners in here.

I have my own account Desert_Storm_93 but my bf sent me like 2 cars so I can practice. I have a Skyline GT-R and a 86 GT '12 (idk cars but that's what I got) I like the 2nd one more. I went to that link and it just seems confusing lol I just wanna know basics when the #s go higher what does that mean? What must I do to loosen up the car movement. I changed the 'basic' settings in 'driving options' and my 'traction control' is 4. Active steering 'strong' & controller steering sensitivity is at 7 (idk if for that one the higher the # the better or vise versa). I'm sure me saying all this sounds so 'dumb cute' lol but like I said I don't really know much and I'm not a good read and get it person I'm more of a show me and I get it person.... :/

Oh my God... A Girl... Let's all help her!!!

Stickies exist for a reason. If you can't comprehend what you read, then posting on a forum is the epitome of irony. If you can only be 'shown' then log into GT5, make a room title that blatantly states you're a girl, and the boys will come flocking in soon enough. Make sure you're mic'd up and I'm sure you can convince 90% of them to do anything you want. Good luck exploiting yourself!

What Im not sure I get is how can you really like GT5 when your not a car person. o_O (makes for a good meme)

Read around and possibly get a bf that can explain Gas/Brake.

Okay I'll try offering the OP a little useful advice instead of just cracking on her.

First I would suggest turning your active steering off. I know it is supposed to be an aid to help you drive, but I found myself fighting it often times as it tried to get the car to do one thing when I was trying to do something else.

As for tuning the cars I would suggest you get a little practice with the lower powered stock cars first before worrying overly much about tuning them up. Your 86GT is a decent starter car with pretty good handling stock, simply putting better tires on it will greatly improve its handling.

Since you say you know little about cars this game is a good way to learn a bit about them and get a better appreciation for them. Read the descriptions of the cars to learn a bit about them and buy ones you like the looks of or the descriptions of. While collecting a few cars and doing the early A-Spec races do as a couple earlier posters here suggested and read some of the information available here on tuning cars. Also despite his bark Adrenaline maintains a website that contains links for most of the car tunes available here in the forum. You can find it by clicking on the stickied thread at the top of the forum. Use it to find a few different tunes for cars you have and try them out. As your in game driving improves you'll likely find a few tunes for your cars you like and then by looking at those settings start to get a feel for what works for you and what doesn't.

Hope this helps you a bit and regardless of the catcalls you've gotten don't be put off. Most people around here are pretty good sorts and will help with more specific type questions.👍👍

Yup ...and this is why it often amazes that people ask for more tuning options like Ignition Timing, Valve Timing, tire pressure tuning, forged pistons etc etc. It seems we forget that the type of people who are regulars on this site are hardly the type of people who view cars in the same light that they view toasters and kettles. And as much as I am with the people who love the technical details, it is threads like these that help me to temper my expectations of GT. So when GT6 comes out, I am willing to bet a Blueberry Muffin that the tuning options will not go much further than what we have right now ...otherwise things will get to a point where it will be near impossible to explain anything in an hour or less. Hell, judging by the kind of things the OP is asking, I wonder if we are not there already!

@OP ...drive the car standard for a start. How can you improve anything when your question states you "want more movement"? Why? What is wrong? identify your specific issue and when you come back you can ask something more specific like ..."how do I get my 86 GT to steer better going into a corner?"

But when you simply say you want more movement it becomes impossible to help. Here is some advice ...adjust your driving style to suit the car and roll with it ..you will get a clearer idea of the cars shortcomings and be able to ask specific questions later. Do not get fooled into thinking that these cars can be adjusted to suit your precise requirements...which may or may not include bad practices like extreme late breaking. Oh, and one way to quickly get into those bad practices is to use Aids to the degree that you are using them.

When you start the game go to gt mode.then do the license test then do the tests.if you finish all of them with bronze or better you win a car and during the tests, you gonna earn money and xp.to buy a car,go to the dealerships and the used car dealership.the a specs and b specs gonna earn you extra xp and cash and more cars if you get gold in every race.the open lobby gonna take you to the online lobbys.seasonal events is easy cash and xp and you can win a car there too.the online dealership is a used car dealership but every car got 0 mileage.so it's still new.to take pictures,go to practice, pick a track,go to the track you picked, drive around the track, leave out of the track,go to the replay, stop the replay by pressing start if you want take a picture of your car drifting or not.to make a track,go to course creator, and pick a track you want to make, and make the track.to share a car online,go to a car you want to share and select share with friends and the car should be shared.to tune your car,go to the tuning shop and fix your car,go to gt auto.other stuff you should know.oh and to make your car steer better, increase the steering sensitivity.

My advice is don't worry about tunes righ now. Learn to drive first, improve your driving skill and try to learn some competition driving technics (is not the same that driving your real car in the streets). You can learn lots of things in this forum, but first you need to practice, practice and a bit more of practice. Then you will start to feel what's going on with the tyres, the suspension, etc... And you will be able to compare your new knowns with your experiences...Try diferent cars and learn to feel the diferences in performance. I sugest you to start with low powered cars (like your hachiroku: it's a nice car to start)
First step is learning the driving lines: when or where to brake, when or where to turn, etc. Try to set a good time in some tracks, and then try to improve your time...
Then you will be able to feel what happens if you change a value in your setup.
If you try to learn all in a rush you will get confused/frustrated. So start by the basics.

There's a lot of people who is playing and posting about this game for years. You can understand that everybody here started in your same situation, and most questions you have were answered before... So come often to the forum, read the sticky threads, try to look for some specific questions... This site is huge, and there's a lot of info here... You're in the correct place! :)

Enjoy!

Pretty much sums up where you should start. Improve your technique then focus on the car. The car is only as good as the driver.

Good luck!

Can anyone explain to me what I need to do in order to get my car to have more movement when I drive
......snip....
and how can I get the steering to cooperate.
1. you want it oversteery/loose? or just fkn soft and wobbly?
2. faster response? less understeer? more direct feeling?

You must be more precise.

Good luck!

Or drive around the track about 10-15 laps and get the feel of the car and make your throttle control better so even when you turn the stuff off except the abs,you going to be as good as you turned the stuff on.thats how be a better driver in the track you in

Here's the greatest, most time saving advice you'll ever get from a GT5'er. Follow these steps:

1. Ignore all advice above unless it agrees with what I'm about to say.

2. Browse this tuning forum and pick two or three popular garages and try their tunes for the cars you are using or better yet, purchase for yourself or have your bf purchase a few cars for you that are in these tuning garages that are of the speed and character you are looking for. Eg. Slower cars on street tires, faster cars on race tires etc.

3. Try the tunes out and if you like them, you've found a garage whose tunes you can use because tuners tend to have the same tendencies when tuning. If you don't like the tunes of a particular garage cross it off your list. Be sure you differentiate between online and offline tunes because the physics are different and use the tune in the same place the tune was made, online or offline.

4. If you want more info after trying and enjoying the tunes, contact the person in charge or one of his tuners and ask for tips. Tuners are a friendly bunch, usually willing to give loads of advice when they sense that someone is enthusiastic and grateful for their advice. Remember, they created that entire garage, dozens upon dozens of tunes, solely for your benefit.

That's $10,000 worth of advice if I've ever seen it!!!:sly:

Note: If your bf is having trouble explaining GT5 to you, don't hold it against him. Hundreds of us have been trying to figure out this game for 18 months and collectively we've got 1-2% of the game down pat...still working on the other 98-99%!

It's always worth a try if you've enough time. I've seen brilliant tunes from guys who usually post tunes I dislike.

Sure, if someone has the time and inclination, go nuts, search and try dozens of tunes for that one brilliant tune. Most people don't have that kind of time, and I would think that a beginner wouldn't want to be putting that kind of time in, especially given that they are probably struggling with most or all aspects of car control in the beginning stages and it would be more fruitful and efficient to find a tuner they like and stick with them in the beginning. Plenty of time later for searching for the needle in a haystack.💡

Ignore the advice of Adrenaline and his shills when they attempt to lure you to a thread containing every tune on GTPlanet. The thread actually contains relatively few tunes and some links to tunes posted by users, but are they are not catalogued in the OP.

There's a link to another website which lists tunes, but many of them have been rendered out of date due to the number of updates to GT5. Unfortunately, the website leaves you to discover this yourself which could cost hours of your time.

You're probably better off following Johnnypenso's advice and asking questions directly of the tuners or wait for Onboy to come to your rescue.
