I need some help.

I know there's a lot of older, wiser members here...so I need some advice.

To start this off, I drink. I'm underage. It's stupid. I know.

My mom was cleaning my room today, went into my closet, and found about 15 liquor bottles that had been piling up there over the past few years. My parents never knew I did anything before. They never knew about me drinking, or anything. Now they found everything. I already came clean and told them that I drink, and now I'm in deep trouble. Any and all advice is appreciated on how to deal with this.
 
just go along with the punishment and don't drink anymore. Trust me, the punishment is nothing compared to what alcohol can do to you.
 
I'm looking more on advice on how to deal with my parents who are absolutely crushed right now. They must think that they ****ed up so badly in raising me and that it is their fault that I do this stuff.

Now my mom thinks I have a drinking problem and suspects me of being an alcoholic. That is not the case, but with what just happened, they don't trust me as far as they can see me or believe a word that I say.
 
Well, let me start off by saying that I had a similar problem also. Except it was with smoking. And it was similar to the exact situation as you had today.

Is their any way to convince your parents that you are not a bad person? Or are they just too crushed to a point where they wont even talk to you.
 
They'll still talk to me, they're not going to disown me or anything. They're just really disappointed.
 
You're 18, right?

In the UK, the minimum age at which you are allowed to purchase alcohol IS 18. The minimum age at which you are allowed to drink - in the parental home - is FIVE.

Alcohol is not the worst thing on the planet to have a vice for - just imagine the number of actually illegal things you could choose instead. They need to snap the hell out of it - we all have our little peccadilloes and, as long as it doesn't become a problem for you, alcohol is just another liquid.


I seriously cannot believe the amount of fervour that is given in the US to "underage" drinking. You can vote, marry, reproduce, shoot an intruder in the back but not sip some jungle juice. How are you meant to celebrate your wedding if you're married between 16 and 20? Pop?

Remember the stuff with Bush's sprog (Jenna?). We were laughing our asses off in the UK... "A 20 year old? Drinking alcohol?"

Seriously, SublimeDood10's parents. Get a grip. It's not like he's injecting...
 
Well, first question is, are you going to continue to drink? If so, then there's more of a problem than them finding out.

There is not much you can do other than ask to let you tell the full story behind all those bottles. Be honest truthful, and end with reasons why you don't anymore, and won't in the future. Note that you realize you disappointed them, and am planning on not doing that again any time soon.

I was 17 when stumbling home from a party at 5am when my dad came driving by. Very uncomfortable situation, that I don't think he ever told my mother about. I was very apologetic and made a concerted effort to change my ways. Or at least be very diligent about not showing them that I'd go on a bender every now and then.

What type of advice were you hoping for? Will your parents forgive you? Yes, in a year or two. So you have one little issue. Have you gotten any girls pregnant? Having a drink is one thing. Blind stinking sloppy every other night, is a problem.

Here in the US, we were shielded from all the good Bush Girls drinking jokes. Got any good ones to send my way?

Yes, I am going to quit drinking until at least college. I don't know what I'd do if something like this happened again. I'm just going to try to be as good as I can and win their trust back.

Actually, we never got any. We just laughed at CNN's coverage of the Bush "scandal". Of a 20 year old girl drinking alcohol...

That's about the best approach you can take. However, I'll offer this piece of advice from my past. You can enjoy a drink or two in college, but avoid it for the most part it does you no good. Concentrate on your studies and reserve the celebration for the appropriate time.

I'm starting to come to this realization. I'm going to study engineering in college at the University of Dayton next year, and from what I've heard, I'm not going to be able to spend too much time partying if I want to keep my grades up.

I've sat down and came clean with my parents now. They're not going to punish me or anything. It just feels bad to lose their trust. They think I'm an alcoholic or something and that I drink in my room every night. This is not the case, as I drink every other week at most, and only in social situations.

I guess it's time for me to prove them wrong.
 
Good Luck in the engineering course. I took a few in college and I'm much happier to pay a high priced consultant to take the liability and stress of figuring that portion out.

I've walked down a similar path that you descirbed. I managed to come out on the other end a bit worse for wear, but with plenty of experience to give you a helpful hint every now and then.

Good to know that your parents are accepting enough to realize they can only give you so much guidance and then you have to figure it out on your own. Tough to find parents that are as good and as trusting as yours.

that why you clean your room yourself. so when you forget your playboy is laying on the floor in your room you can put it under your mattress quick.

another thing you could do is just go easy for a while and dont do anything that can get you in to trouble.
