I need to win this argument.

Okay, well I guess I should start by explaining.
I've wanted to race in iRacing for about a little more then a year now. One problem; PARENTS. They don't seem to understand that I want to play more then just one game. Their argument is always "Well you play video games all day anyway, why would you need new ones". So I saved up money and said I would pay them every time I would need to buy a new subscription. But then their argument ended up being "Were not giving you our credit card because most sites are scams"(partly true and very understandable).

The plan is to get a pre-paid credit card(I'll probably try and sneak one by soon enough) because yes, my parents won't let me get those either because they charge a %(?) fee on the cards so; a $20 card will be cost me $25 which is also understandable because they don't want me getting scammed.

But does anyone have a good argument I could possibly win them over with, and does anyone have any promo codes to let me atleast try iRacing. Yes I know about the cadillac free 3 months and extra content but it doesn't work with pre-paids, which is a big problem. I REALLY want to play this sim. I'll end up sneaking by a pre-paid card though. All in good time.

Thank you in the future.

You are the child. Do as you are told and in due time this thread may help your argument. Try to get them to agree to the cheapest subscription available just to see if y'all like it or not. You may not even commit to the sim. Because it is more than just casual "playing".

Show them the site? And the fact it has over 40'000 members already.

Yea... Already been done. They don't honestly care. I've even told them about the professionals like Dale Earnhardt Jr. but it doesn't seem to touch them

I am doing as I am told and I know it's a sim, I used to play a lot of rFactor when you could buy it in stores and I would join different championships. Also, I will probably get hated on for this, but I played very competitive Call of Duty in tournaments and stuff. I was ranked some of the top hundreds in the world. I am not "some casual gamer". Also, they won't agree because they won't put their credit card out there.

Depending on how old you are, open your own checking account? I know chase bank let me get mine for free cause i was in high school. Or you could do the prepaid, but im not sure if you could use that for iracing.

On a side note: respect your parents either way, it always pays off in the end.

Honestly, I'm an above average kid. I do good in school, listen to my parents more then any of my friends to theirs. That's generally the most important to my parents, respect.

On the other thing, the pre paids do work and I do have a debit card. I thought you need a credit card for Pay Pal.

EDIT:I am 16 years old actually.

Just sign up for a paypal account and link your bank account to paypal and pay for iracing through paypal and the money will come straight out of your bank account. You don't need a credit card to have a paypal account.

Heeeeey YaShoe.

I agree with your parents because from your pace in the GRC Events I think you would beat too many people.

Nah but seriously, since I joined iRacing I have not had one issue credit wise. The only thing I can recall so far is people that Pre-Ordered the Lotus 49 had their money refunded due to the car being unfinished. They also get the car for free when it finally comes out.

I'm sure if you show them the website, let them read through it a little and may be ask a friend or someone you know in real life if they recommend it to your parents.

I'm sure after some more haggling you'll be able to bribe your way into it somehow, then we'll all be doomed. :)

But like others say, buy the shortest subscription to start and see if you like it first. Another bit of good advice is to wait until some good deals arrive for new members. I got 50% off my membership on Black Friday and made the most of buying a 2 year subscription for the price of 1.

Well first off, thank you.

Second, I think I will show them again and actually tell then to read some of it through.

And finally, I already bought one of those ultimate game cards, I bought 3 months for $15. It says the payment is processing though. So I'm just waiting right now.

Not trying to sound harsh here. But you're 16, you shouldn't need your parents help.
well, if i was 16 and would ask for Iracing-membership and some car/tracks i don't think my parents would allow me to even whit own money.
Even today they would call me insane if i told them how much money i spent on PC/steering wheels/Iracing. :D

I don't think that will work. I perfectly know how (some) parents think. They still will see a a very expensive "game" for a kid while they already have so many. They don't understand PC and internet stuff and don't know why you need a credit card or are scared to use it on the internet. :odd:

Well obviously you missed something.

What I said is that they pay with their credit card and I pay them back with cash.:tup:No help. Just using a credit card.

So they told you no yet you bought it anyway? Maybe that's why you were told no in the first place.. or am I missing something?

Just because you really want something doesn't mean that you are entitled to it. Instead of trying to circumvent your parents, ask yourself: what could you do that would earn you this video game?

Do your parents trust you with their credit card number? If not, what could help you earn that trust?
Do your parents have faith in you that you will manage your time wisely and focus on getting into a good university instead of say, playing iRacing all day long?

Yes actually, you are. They said no to using their credit card and pre paid ones because they charge extra money for what you get. So I got a game card and they charge $20.00 for $20.00 and they weren't opposed as much as really skeptical about my money.

They trust ME with their credit card but not some site.

They also trust me with college/university thing because if I do bad I won't be able to get my G1(drivers license) So I will be keeping my grades up. None the worries :)

I'm really not sure why your parent's are so worried about a scam or the fee for a pre-paid, seems little much but what do I know.

Hopefully they will end up letting you but maybe don't want you blowing money on something you will end up not wanting.

Yea, but I guess I solved it with the pre paid that doesn't charge you extra.
You live in Ontario? G1 was a dead giveaway.

Yepp

Using their credit card is getting help. You can easily blow $1,000+ on iRacing. Personally, i can understand your parents concern.

As I said, completely understandable. I really should have named this thread differently. It sounds like I'm some random arrogant teenage idiot who wants to mooch money off his parents. I know you can, but why would I do that? That's disrespectful to my parents and would break lots of trust between us.

Can't help ya kid. My folks wouldn't have done it either. We were poor when I was your age and if I wanted something I had to buy it myself. With their permission of course. Good luck to you that's about the best we here at GTP can do for you.

Yea, were not too well off over here. Nothing bad though. Thanks.

Why dont you use the 3 month demo. There is a thread with discount codes. You do need to use a card but they charge you nothing.

Also if they are sceptical, show them this forum so they can see how wide the following is.
