I never had the pixelated shadows issue for some reason.

I find this odd considering all of the complaints I keep reading about.

I've seen this a few times. I heard a while back that there were some glitches in shadows, mainly of those from waving flags.

Also, you should be keeping your eyes on the road and not the scenery lol

My tv is able to use 720p but I rarely use it because I am usually across the room and see no difference.

Thats why you dont see the jagged edges. Get a 1080p tv and its noticable.

Some things will obviously stand out a lot more a with a higher spec display. But even on a bog standard old TV, if you don't see jaggy, blocky, gross shadows -- you're just not looking at very many of the shadows.

Yea. I have one of those standard old TVs, and the jagged shadows are noticeable. Inside the car (cockpit, or rear seats), and on the track, especially on the ones with time transition.

So, no offence, but I don't know what magic you TV is doing to GT5 for you not to notice this.

Really??? :dunce:

Have you ever been to Indy-Superspeedway??? IMHO this is the track were lego shadows are more noticeable...

the TV is only a year old

I think I should be able to see most of them in replays and photomode, the only thing with my TV that holds it back is that its a 19 inch, but even on my 30 or so inch tv I don't see them,

sorry, haven't raced there yet.

So... can we assume you just got the game?

I mean... It's been there since day one... and you get to drive there early in the game... well, not that early...

You can't see the difference from SD to HD!?

You haven't seen poor shadows!?

Been to the optician lately:dunce:

If I actually take notice of the shadows on my 1080P TV i will see how blocky they are , but it doesnt bother me. Also even with a 40" TV at 12 foot away from my TV I barely notice the difference from HD to SD because my eyesight is bad , but I do see a difference.

Wondering the same thing. High Definition makes a world of difference from standard.

Could be because of how far away you are sitting from the tv. The further you are away, the less detail you can see compared to close up. What looks fine from 7 metres away wont nesessarily look good from 1.5 metres away.

The only trouble I have is pixelated tyre smoke, horrid.

Sometimes shadows look great, if you just happen to look when they look good, you won't see them. Sometimes the shadows look absolutely horrible though, and it's obvious when they are on the screen.

Shadows that almost always look bad are when a car ''self shadows'', like a side mirror making a shadow on the car door, or a rear spoiler making a shadow on the rear bumper at an extreme angle. Those shadows often are broken up into long ''stripes'' that flicker and move around unnaturally. Those almost wreck the game graphically sometimes.

If you sat close to a 52'' 1080p TV, you'd see all kinds of crappy looking shadows all the time.

I only saw a slightly blocky self shadow once (on a lotus elise 190), thats about it, and it wasn't even too bad.

yes, 20/20 vision, I sit across the room from the small tv, thus I am not going to see a major difference. On larger TV's I see a difference but thats about it.

Yes, I upgraded to 720P/1080P

I think 1080, but I notice alot more imperfections graphically.
And screen tearing. AAAUUUGHHHH

I think it's the 19 inch screen. Think of how a you tube video looks ok in the original size, but when you go full screen it looks all blocky. Higher definition bigger tv will show the pixelation more than lower def smaller screen.

Implementing a time of day system requires dynamic shadows. The cascading PCF shadows GT employs can look pretty rough. Shadows are computationally expensive and it's hard to expect something beautiful when GT5 ideally wants to render an entire frame in just 16ms.

I remember reading that a really long time ago. Glad I found it quickly.

There is an argument that Polyphony might have considered 720p with 2x MSAA for lowest resolution mode. Running at 60FPS tends to blend things naturally in the human eye any way, and this effect is amplified when everything is in motion, as in a driving game. It may also have increased performance and reduced tearing.
I hear some people always mentioning this everywhere.

There's your answer. I have a lot more hours into GT5 obviously, on a bigger TV, so I see everything, you see a lot less.

Everybody has this issue. There's no way to not have it. I'm only bothered with it in photomode. I don't pay too much attention to it while racing :D

This and the size of the tv are what I attribute it to.
